1st League Night Take 2: Start Time 5:00pm

We will definitely be playing league tonight. We will be teeing at 5:00pm so make sure to be there and signed in before then. The rain should be moved out by then but if not it will just be light and we will always make an effort to play in light rain as long as it is safe.

Parts of the course will be flooded (3 & 4 for example) so plan accordingly.

We will play the normal layout as long as holes are passable. If impassable, we have contingency layouts used in the past but we have not had to use them much since the 100 year flood 5 or so years ago.

4/6/2017 League Cancelled Tonight

We waited as long as we could today before cancelling but the conditions would just make for reslly miserable play. Yes, we have all played in bad conditions but today our Great State of Michigan weather is giving us all the nasty it can dish out. Michigan Amateur Open Doubles (June 26)

We are experimenting with a Flex Start Doubles this year. This means that your team can play either one of the two sessions, combining both events with one payout following the second session. All plastic payouts for all divisions. $20 for all team.

We will be playing 1 round of the Jumbo Layout. Players will be skipping 2-3, 5-7, & 23; adding in 12-17 for the Round of 18.

DGLO-Toboggan

We are still looking for a limited number of spotters Friday - Sunday at the Toboggan. This is preferably an all day commitment however, if you cannot do a whole day we may be able to work you in. Because of the removal of the autumn olive on the course the number of spotters is much smaller than in years past. All spotters will be provided with a dri fit shirt, lunch, and some x out discs provided by Discraft. If you are interested in spotting for the event, please post here, indicating the days that you are available to spot. Thanks!

Holly Woods Update for next weekend.

Just as an advance notice, next weekend, both Saturday and Sunday the course will be closed from 6am to 6:30pm. The course has been closed per permit by The Flint Town Flyerz for the Chain Reaction Disc Golf Tournament.

Frozen Flyerz

This Saturday is the FTFs Annual Fundraising Tournament: Frozen Flyerz. Once again we will be hosting it at the Heron Lake Boat Launch at the Holly Recreation Area State Park. Turn right at the booth from the normal park entrance and take the next right for the boat launch. We will be playing 18 holes.

This is a fundraiser event for the YWCA of Flint.

We are using cashless pre-reg. Just add your name and pdga# (if you have one) in the talk section.

Mulligans will not be offered in the open division. Also the open division will be playing for plastic.

Ribbons taped to your disc are strongly encouraged. Make them 3 to 4 feet long and do it at home with tape and disc that is at room temperature. This area has been untouched all winter so the snow is DEEP in spots and discs without ribbons have a good chance at getting lost.

Each divisional winner will receive a special disc. There will be lots of CTPs. We will have a warming tent.
Your $20 entry will include hot coffee, juice, muffins, and scones before the round. You will also get 2 raffle tickets with your entry. Then after the round we will have buffalo wings, mac and cheese, corn muffins, green beans, water, soda, and hot chocolate.

In addition, we have lots of very nice items for raffles that were donated from local businesses.

We also have 2014 FTF Bag Tags for sale as well.

Bag Tag Finals Update

I made a mistake in the last News item....

The location of the Bag Tag Finals per the schedule on the bag tags is Holly Woods. As such, please report to Holly Woods from 8:30am to 9:00am if you are planning on playing in the Bag Tag Finals.

As before, $5 to to play, 80% to the winner & 20% to second place.

In addition, I will be out there with the hoodies from the Goldenrod Championships. If you bought one, please get with me for payment. Thanks.

FTF Tag Finals

The final club event of the year is upon us ok November 9th at Goldenrod. $5 to play. 80% will go to the winner an 20% to the runner up. Registration is from 9:00-9:30am.

As always, this is a single elimination, 9 hole match play event. We will schedule a minimum of two matches however for those knocked out in Round 1.

I have to be at the MDGO meeting that day so I will not be there so I would suggest not having a Fly Mart there without someone with a Vendors License.

We will be running registration from 8-9am. A 9:15am players meeting and a 9:30 tee time.

We will be playing a continuous loop of 27 holes (3 rounds of the 9 holes) in efforts to allow people to come play and still have all afternoon for Father's Day.

Radwyn has been working hard to get CTPs for all of the holes from local businesses and he is doing a great job. If anyone would like to contribute please let me know in advance so I can place the packages together. These are going to be some MEGA CTP prizes...

Michigan Amateur Open

The Michigan Amateur Open registration will start to heat up pretty soon. We have had 5 in the last few days. If you want to play register soon or you will be shut out of this event.

This Wednesday, I will be instructing the Michigan State Parks Recreation 101: Disc Golf Program. The session will be held at the Sunset Ridge Pavilion by the Holly Woods disc golf course.

Speaking topics will be: Rules of the Game, Common Terms, Types of Throws, etiquette.

Hello FTF!

I am a part of the TD Team for the 2013 DGLO. We are hoping to make this years
event to be one of the best events on the tour. To make this hope come true, we
need to combined might of the MDGO to make this happen.

At this time, I am writing about Spotting. I am going to be compiling a list of
all of the people that are volunteering to spot at DGLO. WE already have a list
of some people however, we need MORE people, to make sure that play out on the
Toboggan goes smoothly.

So, I am asking that you send a message out to your clubs/leagues and see if
anyone is interested in assisting with spotting at the event. Spotters will
receive: 1 misprint disc per hour, shirt, lunch, and water. We need spotters
for Friday-Sunday.

After several reports and complaints about some of the actions of people out at the course this weekend (not tournament players) expect to see Rangers and some State Police (they are right down the road) in the parking lots and potentially on the course or putting basket area until these people are either deterred from playing or acting like they have.

Reports from the weekend:
Music blaring from the parking lots that could be heard through the park.
Breaking glass bottles on picnic tables. ... more

Attempting to major to baskets from throwing logs into them.
Threatening to fight people for trying to stop the above behavior.

Michigan State Parks is very concerned that families and serious lovers of the sport that have traveled to the park to use the course will have or have had a negative experience due to these people. That will not be tolerated or be allowed to continue. So, if you are doing anything that you believe that a Park Ranger or State Police officer would have issue with you doing, I recommend not doing it at the course. I think we know the few issue to what I am referring to. Pass the word and if you witness any problems please call the phone number listed on the Official Scorecard. The number is on the back on it.

Sorry about the late announcement but Doubles are ON for tonight. With that being said there will be some adjustments to tonights play. I'm sure most of us know but the course is flooded. This isn't the first time this has happened and we have made it work in the past. There will most likely be a modified layout tonight because of said flooding. Most holes are playable but because of where the flooding is it makes most of the course unpassable, that is it is too much of a pain to get through to certain areas.

What we did a couple of years ago when this happened was played the holes that gave us the best flow around the course. An example would be, we played 1,2,8,9,10,11,18 and 19, three times for a total of 24 holes. This will be up to whoever is running the show tonight, Rick Hunt, DJ, Slone and/or Kevin and Erika Hill. I can not attend for a while until my teaching duties are done for the year.

Now for the weather. Once again whomever is running the show tonight will be in charge of making the decision on play. If it it is just lightly raining I'm sure there will be play. If it is a torrential downpour, spot decision. If there is severe weather don't push it.

There is a possibility that the round could be started and then a downpour or svere weather comes through. If this happens and the round is called please see the About portion at the top of the page for more on this works with money and payouts.

We are aware that the course is currently unplayable for this weekends tournament. However, our non-refundable fees have been paid to run the event there as well as we would prefer to not move the event unless we have to, with the hopes of reducing any confusion that moving the event would cause.

With that being said, the event WILL 100% take place albeit it may not be at Goldenrod. An assessment of the course will be made in a few and a final determination will be made if the event can be played there. We will post the determination of this everywhere that we can.

We will be starting league tomorrow at 5:00pm sharp. Please be there and signed up by 4:50pm so we can start promptly. There are a few new things to go over for this year:

As always, the league is free to play (that is, you do not have to put in $5 to play but if you choose not to and you and your partner cash, your partner gets the winnings. (Their choice to cut you in on any if the want but not mandatory).

With that being said, the FTF Board of Directors has decided to start a Course Development Fund in order to raise money for baskets for a possible new course in the area. With the attendance numbers we have been seeing at both leagues (Grod/Holly) steadily climb the last couple of years we thought this would be a good way to generate money for baskets if an opportunity was to present itself for a new course. This has been an issue in the past where we have had the opportunity and/or land but not the money or baskets. This will take care of that.

So this year we will be collecting $1/player/wk, regardless if you choose to play for money or not. If you are playing for money it will be $6 with $5 going to payouts and $1 to the CDF. If you do not play for money then it will be $1 to play which will go to the CDF. This is mandatory and not optional. As always ace pool is optional and is $1 but you must be playing for money.

Also new this year the FTF will be sponsoring some awards (a disc to the winners) to be handed out at the end of the season. They will be:

1) Goldenrod Doubles Champions - points will be awarded weekly and the top 2 point earners at the end of the season will be crowned 2013 Genesis Goldenrod Doubles Champions

2) Most Wins

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday nights for another great season of doubles at "The Rod"

Frozen Flyerz

This Saturday (registration 8:30 to 9:30) we will be once again playin on the famed Huron Beach Course at the Holly Recreation Area State Park (front booth, turn right to boat launch). We are raising money for the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. $20 to play for all divisions and we will be donating all funds to the charity. Cool custom stamped Roc3s for divisions winners. Course Development Fund

Our Board of Directors have made the decision to create an course development fund as we see a need for more courses in our area. The way that we have decided to fund this endevour, is to collect $1 from every player at our leagues this year, in order to play. We will easily have enough money to purchase 18 baskets by seasons end. We hope that having money in hand for all of the baskets, it will lead to us finding a home for a new course. This is not an optional $1, it is mandatory and we believe that is it a small enough fee that it should not impact anyone too greatly.

Club Doubles Championships

It is being held this year at Goldenrod on Oct 20th. Registration will be from 9:30 to 10am. The event is free of charge and will have CTPs out on the course. One member of the team must be a current player. The format this year will be Open/Am1/Am2 (Gold) as a division and Am3/Am4 (Silver) as a division. You will play in the division of your highest rated player. Playing 1 Round of 18 holes of best shot doubles. Trophies for divisional winners.

It is election time once again. There will be 4 directors seats that will be up for election. They are seats that were held by Mark Stephens, Paul Grasso, Brian Frawley, and Jones. Some or all of these people may run again but if you would like your name on the 2012 ballot as well you need to let Mark Stephens know by Oct 20th.

The BoD is responsible for laying out all club activities, assisting at events, running events, etc.

9/20 Goldenrod Start Time 5:00p.m.

Sunset is at 7:34 tonight and it will get shorter and shorter each week from her on out.

Also, the park rules state that the rangers close the park at sunset. Sometimes they do it right at sunset, sometimes later but we have also seen them come early so 2 1/2 hrs should be just enough time to play, do payouts and get out of dodge before the man comes.

FTF Singles Championships

The FTF Singles Club Championships will take place on August 18th at Holly Woods Disc Golf Course. Registration will be from 8:00am to 8:30am at the putting basket. We will be playing 2 rounds of 24 holes with a handicap, as such everyone will play from the long tee pads. We will be collecting $5 for a variety of side games (ace pool, CTP, ect). We will be awarding 7 berths to the Michigan State Finals and paying for the Club Champion's tournament fees. This is open to 2012 FTF Club Members only. Ok, after thinking about it a little more than we did initially it was decided to make an amendment to to the League Rules, which are in affect for both Goldenrod and Holly.

If a league round is canceled in the middle of play due to bad/dangerous weather, those who placed a bet (paid $5) are already paid for the following week ONLY not a week of your choosing. This includes ace pool. The bets of those who were at the canceled round who can not make it to the following week will be added to th ... more

Goldenrod Doubles 5/3-Fall Start Time and RR Crossing Update

Beginning this Thursday 5/3, Genesis Goldenrod Thursday Doubles will start at 6:00p.m.

*Remember to sign in by 5:50p.m., hole/partner assignments by 5:55p.m., to your hole and tee by 6:00p.m..
*This will be the start time until sometime in September.

Also, the railroad crossing is done. They finished it last Thursday or Friday so no detour.

Goldenrod Detour on Irish in between Court and Davison Rds.

Just a heads up.... They are finally fixing the railroad crossing on Irish in between Court and Davison Rd! It is closed down until they have it fixed which shouldn't be more than a week or two.

Until it is reopened you will have to detour around it. Keep this in mind when planning travel time for league or other rounds out there. The detour is not bad at all. It might add 5minutes at the most.

*If coming from the east on 69 get off at M-15, go north and then left on either Davison, R ... more

So before cursing the detour keep this in mind the next time we drive across it. It will be nice and smooth and cause no car injuries.

The club has organized a cleanup/workday at Goldenrod Disc Golf course for SATURDAY APRIL 7TH at 9:00a.m. until around 4:00p.m. or possibly before or after depending on the progress at that point.

Mark Stephens has spoken with Genesee County Parks to clear this with them, which they have ok'd, so this is an official/legit cleanup/workday.

In fact, GCP will be providing us with crushed limestone and possibly some other labor help, to alleviate/fix some tee pads and other areas with th ... more

The club has organized a cleanup/workday at Goldenrod Disc Golf course for SATURDAY APRIL 7TH at 9:00a.m. until around 4:00p.m. or possibly before or after depending on the progress at that point.

Mark Stephens has spoken with Genesee County Parks to clear this with them, which they have ok'd, so this is an official/legit cleanup/workday.

In fact, GCP will be providing us with crushed limestone and possibly some other labor help, to alleviate/fix some tee pads and other areas with their flooding and lack of drainage issues (ex. #7 & #2 tee pad/area). This will be provided to us for a reasonable donation to the parks which the club will be taking care of.

In addition to work on tees we will be working to accomplish the following:
- Trash cleanup around entire course
- Clearing of deadfall (limbs, sticks and other) from fairways and high traffic areas
- Minor trimming of bushes and limbs
- Other small miscellaneous jobs

Please bring tools for possible use like, shovels (flat/spade), rakes (metal & leaf), clipper/trimmers/loppers, etc...
Please bring any other provisions you may need for the day such as snack/lunch, beverages, work clothes/play clothes, etc...

*It is GCP policy to NOT use gas powered tools such as chain saws, leaf blowers, and weed whackers so no need to bring them...

If you can attend for the whole day or for only a little while at the beginning, end, or anywhere in between your time/help will be greatly appreciated.

There will be some PRIZES given away for those who come out.

There will most likely be a doubles round or a group(s) playing once work is done but on this day the main focus is getting the course in shape for the season as we have not had an official cleanup day there in a couple of years.

EVERYONE AND ANYONE IS WELCOME AND YOUR HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED AS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A CLUB MEMBER BUT JUST CARE ABOUT GOLDENROD DGC, DISC GOLF, PARKS AND NATURE IN GENERAL.

2012 A-Tier

The Flint Town Flyerz once again have been selected to run an A-Tier event by the PDGA! It will be the Michigan Amateur Open, June 23-24th.

We will be working at possibly expanding the field beyond 96 holes as well. We will keep you posted on that.

Bag Tag Finals

Just a reminder that the Bag Tag Finals is this Saturday at Holly Woods. We will be meeting at 10am.

Must be a current 2011 FTF Member.

The format is the same as in year's past. 9 Hole Match Play. Random Starting Holes. Single Round Elimination. Lowest Tags will play the Highest Tags.

There will be 1 consolation round as well.

No cost to play. Winner gets a big ole' 26" trophy....

The Karma Junkie Putting League, Session 1, will be starting this Thursday at 7pm. There will be 2 sessions this year instead of 1 long session. The 2ns session will start mid January (I think). It is a weekly event on Thursday & costs $5. Come on and enjoy some indoor putting!

2012-2013 Director Election

Theft From State Finals TD

ATTENTION ALL DISC GOLFERS This weekend at states Jeffrey H Schwass had his golf bag stolen frm his home. We will be posting the contents and we what your help in finding the low life that took this. All discs have his name on them.

Also a basket was stolen aprox the same time frame.

Ace Race

I do see a good number of FTFers already registered for the State Finals. Just another blast remeinding people that if you don't pay for the event before the deadline to do so (Aug. 26th at midnight) your berth is null and void. MDGO Berths

Just a reminder to everyone that has won berths so far this year. You HAVe to pay for the tournament at least 2 weeks before the event or your berth is VOID. That berth will be transferred to the Last Chance Qualifier & no longer yours. So, register for the event!

FTF Playerz Series Updated

I still need to play with the formatting. I had the scores highlighted that were being used as we are 5 events in and people are starting to drop out their lowest scores but you can see where you stand for now at least.

Flint Town Drive By

As previously mentioned, the Flint Town Drive By is THIS Saturday at 1:15pm (note the change in time) at Ponder Hills in Howell, MI. This is typically a private course but we have been offered the opportunity to host our club event there.

An address will be posted later but, it is at the NE corner of M-59 and Michigan Avenue. The driveway across from the Kroger Store, pull in after the roadside farm stand and park along the stacked wood.

The Flint Town Flyerz Disc Golf Club offers its random draw doubles leagues to all members of the public free of charge. The Flint Town Flyerz goal is to organize and promote disc golf and disc sports within our local area through public educational opportunities and demonstrate the positive impact that organized disc golf activities can have on public disc golf facilities.

Format: Random draw, best shot doubles.

Starting Time Schedule: See the attached sheet for the starting time for all leagues. Players must be physically present to register and must do so 5 minutes before the stated tee times. There will be no additional registrations accepted after this time & there will be no exceptions to this policy.

Side Bet: Players may place a $5 side bet on their teams finish on the night. The side bet is not refundable for any reason including inclement weather. The side bet must be made prior to drawing a chip and will not be allowed at a later time. See attached pay sheet for payouts.

Play Offs: Play offs for cashing of the side bets are at the discretion of the involved players. It is the policy of the Flint Town Flyerz that tying teams evenly split any awarded cash. If they players wish to split the cash in any other fashion they are free to do so, but it is not the responsibility of the Flint Town Flyerz to facilitate this or take any role in it.

Ace Pool: All players are welcome to enter the Ace Pool for $1. Entering in the Ace Pool is good only for that night of play. In instances of multiple aces on a night, all aces will split evenly. Aces are only good for 18 holes of play. The Ace Pool is paid out 100% for aces except in occasion of a second throw Cali ace. If an ace is hit by a Cali player on their second throw they shall receive 50% of the Ace Pool or in instances of multiple aces on a night 50% of what would have been the Ace Pool even split. The 50% excess from a second throw Cali ace shall carry over into next weeks Ace Pool.

Pairings: Upon registering the player will randomly choose chip, which will be numbered 1-80. This will be the player’s assigned number for the night. Players will then be placed on the registration list in numerical order and players will be paired with the player immediately below them on the registration list.

Cali: After registration has closed and if there are not an even number of players on the night there shall be a Cali player. All players wishing to play Cali shall go through an additional random drawing. The player selected to play Cali shall have their name removed from the registration list changing all of the pairings below them. Cali players shall get 1 extra throw per hole of their choosing. There will be no banking of extra shots. There is no additional side bet required to play Cali.

Out of Bounds: Holly Woods-Pond on Hole #9. Goldenrod-All typical permanent bodies of water which includes ponds, creeks, lakes, & swamps. Any disc over & across the gravel access road on Holes #4 & #6 and the parking lot on #9. The parking lot shall be defined by the edge of gravel. Any discs surrounded by any gravel is out of bounds which shall include the turn around on the entry road.

Tee Pads: All tee shots must be thrown from the tee pads. The League Manager at Goldenrod may, upon their discretion, allow for tee shots to be taken from the side or behind the tee pads. This must be announced by the League Manager prior to the start of the round to be in effect. If at some time short tee pads have been installed at Holly Woods, women may use them for their tee shots.

Dangerous Weather: A round may be suspended during play at the discretion of the League Manager due to dangerous weather. An air horn shall be sounded indicating that league play has been suspended and that shelter should be sought. If the weather condition does not clear in 15 minutes or if a second suspension in play occurs in the same night the league round is cancelled for the night. All side bets shall remain in the pool and carry over into next weeks payouts. This does not mean that players are paid in advance for next week, but that the payouts for next week shall have extra monies in them.

Sportsmanship: The purpose of the Flint Town Flyerz Disc Golf Leagues is to promote the sport of disc golf in a structured format for the enjoyment of all participating players. Good sportsmanship by all participating players is an important part of the success of these events. As such, poor sportsmanship shall not be tolerated. Examples of poor sportsmanship are such things as: producing any distracting noises or visual distractions for other players that are throwing, shouting, cursing, damaging course equipment, or throwing or kicking disc golf bags. If in the opinion of the League Manager and affirmed by the President of the Flint Town Flyerz Disc Golf Club that a is player is exhibiting poor sportsmanship said player will be no longer be allowed to place a side bet at the weekly random draw doubles events. Furthermore, if the behavior is extreme or continues at a later date, membership of the Flint Town Flyerz may be revoked per its club constitution and banishment from all club activities, including tournaments, may be enacted.

Ice Bowl

Just a reminder that our Ice Bowl is this Saturday. We are trying to raise as much cash as we can for the food bank. They can buy $14 of food for every $1 donated. Entry fees for all divisions is a $10 donation to the food bank. We will also have raffles and mulligans for sale.

This is the 1st event in the FTF Playerz Series. Tags will be available.

2011-2012 Board of Directors

It is getting close to that time again. The time when we have our annual Board of Directors election. This year we will have 5 openings on the Board. We alternate 4 and 5 positions every other year so that we keep so semblance of continuity as the old board leaves and new members join.

I would like to thank the following Directors. They sat 1 year longer for a total of 3 years so that we could have the staggered years as a normal Board of Directors term is 2 years.

MDGO Berths

If you won a berth from us at our Club Championships or Chain Reaction. They have been reported. You now have 10 days to pre-register for the State Finals. Failing to pre-register means that you are voiding your berth. If you show up without pre-registering you will have to re-qualify and pay to try to do so. Register now at www.mdgo.org.

FTF Insurance Disc Fund Raiser

They are in!

The Supercolor Buzzz are finally here. They cost $20 CASH. They will be at tournaments, but they will be no available to purchase with vouchers (no exceptions). This disc is to help the club purchase an insurance policy that would cover it for the entire year. It protects the club and also makes it easier to run events at courses other than Holly Woods. I will be bringing them to putting on Thursdays as well as our tournaments/events.
