This is a nice 9 hole course which is placed in a well groomed park. A huge addition are the cement tee pads, but they're 10' long where I'd prefer 12'. Random, wandering people who have no idea what disc golf is can be frustrating to contend with. Depending on the wind, the James River can be a hazard on holes #1 and #6. This is a nice course that has a mix of both long / short holes and open & tunnel shots. A picnic table at every tee box would be nice. (Garbage cans have been added to holes #1, #5 & #9 to hopefully cut down on litter). Basket #4 has 9 small bricks around the basket 30' out, which makes for good putting practice. Hole #6 has 3 white, distance marker bricks at 250', 300' and 350' from the front of the tee pad.
I try to throw all year long, weather permitting. The park entrance gates are closed from November 1st thru April 15th causing people who would like to use the grounds to park either in the Memorial Golf parking lot or on the north approach of Waibel Drive. Do not park on the highway shoulder, you could be ticketed. I would like to see the open date moved up at least a month or so to the 1st of March.
