Hey, Kansas Disc Fanatics,
This is Jon, writing to let you all know I'm moving to Pennsylvania at the beginning of August. Sorry about the short notice, but my plans have only come into focus in the last couple of weeks.
I have really enjoyed being involved with DFOK and getting to know all of you. Before DFOK, I played mostly alone, and the camaraderie has made the game much more fun, and improved my skills a lot. I will be playing at Tuttle Doubles tonight (7/21) and Worst Lie tomorrow, so I hope to see many of you there.
For those I won't get to see before I move, thanks for all the rounds we've played. It's been great. Let's keep in touch on Disc Golf Scene. Let me know if you'll ever be visiting the Pennsylvania area.
I would also like to encourage you all to get more involved in DFOK. I know we all prefer playing -- as opposed to meetings -- but the organizational piece is important, too. We have just gotten the ball rolling again to expand Warner, but that's not going to happen without a group effort from DFOK.
Rick Petrie and Mark Kewley have done so much for disc golf in the area, and they will continue to do so -- but as employees of the city they have potential conflict-of-interest issues in the push for Warner expansion. We need a few people to stand up and help to push forward. I was taking on that role, but obviously, I won't be able to continue. DFOK needs you!
I hope to visit Manhattan in a year or two and play the new nine at Warner!
Please note that I got today's date wrong. The doubles league is tonight, but it's 7/22.
It's been great working with you at DFOK meetings (getting league rules established, designing the Fairmont expansion, planning Warner presentations) as well as playing with you at league events and tournaments. Best of luck in Pennsylvania!
good luck to you Jon!
Always enjoyed our rounds. Thanks for time at DFOK events and planning. Thank you for being kind and patient with my son when he joined us!
Jon's contributions to disc golf in the Manhattan area & DFOK may have been somewhat behind the scenes, but have been immense & multi-facated! Thank you for participating in countless DFOK meetings, for promoting the sport of disc golf at non-disc golf events, for spending countless workday hours building the Fairmont course, and the list goes on & on & on. Good luck & you will be missed!
Hey Jon, before you leave could you help dig up one last stump on Fairmont #2? It would make for a great send off... don't you think?
Thanks for all the kind words and positive vibes. I will definitely miss my DFOK friends. Rick, did you have a particular stump in mind?
Jon, It's the "ramp" shaped stump on #2 that we left in place intentionally (dumb idea by me). Don't worry about it though, it was more of a joke than anything else. Plus I've had a week full of heavy travels & family stuff. . . putting disc way on the back burner.
Hopefully I can catch up to you before you leave. If not, I'll get to PA sometime.
Note: Some of the topics in the above pep talk from Jon are about to come up again... stay tuned for more information.
