March 17th is just around the corner - only 5 weeks left of MiCPS-W
Ok we are in Week 13 of the MiCPS-Winter, with only five weeks to go including this one. The MiCPS-W ends March 17th.
You may be thinking that I just don’t get enough rounds in a week to compete. Well we are in week 13, if you got two rounds in a week you would have 26 by the end of this week. If you played a few extra it would help but in the top 20 currently we have two players that only have 8 or 9 rounds. Kirk Haggadone at 17th has 8 round, 286 points with one Ace and three league winning rounds – that is the best points per round average in the top 20. Andrew Kaluk also made the top 20 with only 9 rounds played, also one Ace and one League winning round. Pat Burke just edge out Andrew for the second highest points/round average with 31.80 points /round. Pat also has 1 Ace but has three league winning rounds helped to elevate him to 13th place.
Aces seem to help but there are only 8 of the top 20 who have aces. Justin Holley has two Aces which is the most for anyone in the top 20. Justin has 18 rounds which is the average for the top 20, as well as 5 league winning rounds which is also the average (4.75) for the top 20. The most league winning rounds is currently 13 held by Jay Binienda sitting in 2nd place. Just behind him in league round wins is Samuel Smith with 12 wins, but Sam has an Ace and has played 31 league rounds – Yup 31 – I envy that stats alone – how I wish I could play that many rounds in 13 weeks – Ok and I wish I could do it as consistently as Sam as well. Ok back to reality - all that has earned Sam 510 points and firmly placed Sam at the number one spot for a few weeks now. But the group is closing in……
So what is the spread – Jay needs 55 points to catch Sam for the top position but Sam will not make that an easy gap to close. All the others in the top 20 are between 1 and 28 points from moving up a rung on the leader board.
So the bottom line:
Aces help – I suggest everyone grab one or two before the end of the winter season – besides the points they are just fun to hit and usually there are some extra bucks in it for yeah – go for it!
Winning a few league rounds – seems to be a no brainer but it’s not a must. The average for the top 20 is only 4.75 league round wins and there are three in these, who’s who of Michigan Winter Disc Golf League players, who only have one league round wins. The ultimate winning formula is to play often and if you can play consistently well you will be up with the big dogs on the top of the Michigan Cooperative Point Series leaderboard.
There are five weeks left. Maybe only a few double points days left before Spring arrives and helps us celebrate the end of another wonderful Michigan winter Disc Golf league season. There is still time to change your standing on the leader board and a lot of fun to be had trying – enjoy those league rounds….
More stats and fun to come…..
