Playa Lucia DGC is the first permanent course on mainland Puerto Rico. It is located in the park at Playa Lucia in Yabucoa, which is a nice little town. Playa Lucia DGC is the first permanent course on mainland Puerto Rico. It is located in the park at Playa Lucia in Yabucoa, which is a nice little town. The course itself offers an 18 hole layout with red and blue tees. As far as difficulty, the red tees are pretty much a pitch and putt, great for beginners. The blues do offer a bit more difficulty adding length and, on a few holes, some new shot shaping. The real difficulty of the course comes in the form of the strong prevailing wind coming off the ocean. The wind is no joke. Pros: The biggest pro is that Playa Lucia is only game in town. So, if you want to play disc golf in PR, you need to play this course. Another major pro is the scenery. Puerto Rico is incredibly beautiful and Playa Lucia is no exception to this. Another pro, for me at least, was the graffiti on the walls of the abandoned pool complex there. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I thought it was cool. Last pro, but not least, are the people. Ask for JP at the resort across the street from the course and he will take care of you like familia. Patrick and Brittany from Traveling Chains PR put the course in and will also take great care of you so make sure you look out for them. Con: First con would be tee pads and signage. I believe they plan adding these in the future but right now none of the holes have actual tee pads or signage and none of the baskets have numbers of them. There is a map at the start so I recommend snapping a picture of that prior to starting. The only other con probably for most will be the location. It’s about an hour from San Juan so you will definitely need to rent a car if you are traveling in and you want to play it. The final thing I will say is that, if you are like me and you have always wanted PR to have disc golf, make sure you make your way over to Playa Lucia and check the course out, support the local businesses, and leave a review on UDisc when you play.
