South County Regional Park

Pros: The course starts out with mostly shorter holes (from the reds) with open at the beginning fairways and with the baskets tucked into the woods (1st timers will have to do a little scouting for basket locations on a couple of holes). Then finishes with a couple of bomber holes. The red tees make for a fun rec round and minimize the water hazards while the blue tees offer a substantial increase in challenge and danger. Pros: The course starts out with mostly shorter holes (from the reds) with open at the beginning fairways and with the baskets tucked into the woods (1st timers will have to do a little scouting for basket locations on a couple of holes). Then finishes with a couple of bomber holes. The red tees make for a fun rec round and minimize the water hazards while the blue tees offer a substantial increase in challenge and danger. I think that LHBH and RHFH style throwers are going to like this course.

Navigation is really easy as most tees can be seen from the previous baskets position.

Hole 1: Blind. Throws down the fairway and behind a clump of bushes/tree. The basket that you can see from the short tee on the left is eighteen's. The pro tees offer a significantly higher challenge and seem to throw over a maintenance shop. WARNING: The rough on the right side of the first few holes is an almost impenetrable jungle.

Hole 2: Blind. Mostly open then tucked into the woods then left.

Hole 3: 1 tee pad Blind. Plays almost back to the ball field then tucked into the woods on the right.

Hole 4: Visible from the red tee. Water carry then tucked into the woods before the opening.

Hole 5: Scenic-ish waterhole.

Hole 6: Short and straight tucked up into the woods a little.

Hole 7: Blind. Open then tucked into the woods to the right past the scoreboard. (sensing a pattern yet?)

Hole 8: Basket tucked behind some trees to the right of the walking path. The playground has been put back in. The hardest transition is from here to hole 9. Head towards the swimming pool.

Hole 9: Plays by the pool.

Hole 10: Plays by the tennis courts.

Hole 11: Plays over/around a large RC track and down to the road.

Hole 12: Cross the park entrance road to the only 1 tee pad open field shot.

Hole 13: Basketball court on one side, a road on the other, and a lot of trees in the middle.

Hole 14: Back to open then tucked into the woods on the right.

Hole 15: Hard to see from the tee. Water to the left, a road on the right; basket behind the palm trees at the end of the fairway.

Hole 16: Moved to the right side of the fairway in an attempt to avoid RC boaters.

Hole 17: Hole moved across the street to avoid RC boaters.

Hole 18: Another long one that throws up in between a baseball field and the maint. facility. Water hazard to the right. I would put in a shorter rec pad by the corner of the baseball field. Bring floaters and disc retrieval tools.

There is a course map and the tees have the hole numbers stenciled on them.


Cons: So, the obvious con here would be the fact that this course has the potential to interact with almost all of the other activities at this park. I believe that the course could be further modified in the future to have less interaction with those other activities.


Other Thoughts: A fun round can be had here but I would say that it would be best played during the week in the AM. This is only the second 18 hole course in Charlotte County, and we are darn glad to have it. It pairs well with the other local 18 hole course as that course is more wooded and technical.

White at par 58 or Reds at par 54. disregard the original starting hole number 1 and current course signage. New hole number 1 is located in the middle of the park next to the Purple playground just East of the swimming pool, parking is located next to the softball fields. Hole is a throw over the water to the South of the playground. The rest of the front 9 is fairly the same but once you get to 10 things begin to look a lot different. The course will now lead you around the soccer fields until you finish up on 18 right next to hole 1 parking lot.
