Several challenging holes! Don't play on a super windy day, it is very wide open! Worth a stop if in the area!
Pros: This review is for how this course is RIGHT NOW. There is loads of potential here, but I can't judge a course on what might happen. Lord knows we've all seen courses that ran out of money or interest or whatever. I am rating this course as I saw it today. It's all I can do.
Baskets - They catch very well ! They were easy to see, all of them were brand new.
Park - There are bathrooms at the start of the park that are easily accessible. And though it is a multi use park, MOST of the time, the course doesn't really interfere. I'll talk about the design elsewhere in the review, but the park is wide open and the course uses a good variety of spots.
There are some good holes that were fun to play. I especially liked holes 5, 6, 12 and 17. These holes made good use of some elevation, or the trees.
Unfortunately no tee pads yet! Maybe in 2022, teepads.would help during monsoon season. Mud galore now!
Cons:. I found it difficult to play without a map or navigation.. This has to be a big con and really drags the score of this course down for me. I came down here without a map or navigation and I struggled. Maybe being lost is an I thing! I had difficulty finding where to tee off and which basket to throw to. Look forward to a greeting kiosk!
Most of the holes are straight ahead shots without a lot of trouble. And truly, a few holes seem like filler holes. From a design standpoint, I enjoy playing most of the holes. Considering the canvas they had to work with, the most bang for the buck! Someday might have additional room to add a few extra holes!
Other Thoughts: Overall, this course has a lot of potential and I am glad that Portland has it's own course. . While this isn't a "championship caliber course", it stands alone just fine!
I definitely want to go back when there are sign posts in the ground and the tee pads are all finished up. I am also curious to play the other pin positions to see if they offer some different shots.
For right now, this course is getting a 2.5 or "decent". Which is absolutely the adjective I would use to describe this course at the end of the day. With signs, teepads, and maybe seeing some alts, I think it could be a legit 3.5 course.!
Go play Portland see what you think!
