This is a love hate course for me. The layout is great, the holes are challenging and fun. Cement tee pads are nice and the course is well maintained. Just looking at the course, it is almost perfect. The reason that this course does not get an A+ is because of the traffic and casuals. I have never seen a more disrespectful bunch of casuals. During summer months one can expect 100+ people at any given time and don't be surprised to have idiots screaming during your shots, or to have some punk as ...

Hickory is home. Great course has a little bit of everything. Has a good balance of elevation change, open/tight wooded shots, and all around difficulty.

Good course. Lot's of casuals, but they were very friendly and let us play through when we would catch up. Probably more challenging once the tree's, and there are a lot, get leaves, but I didn't find the course difficult at all. It had a good mix of shot's you'll need to throw. I found most of the par 4's to really just be par 3's. Overall though, I enjoyed this layout and will play again when I'm back up in TC.

As good as it gets! In addition to a super design the course is beautiful... 19 overlooks both bays and downtown Traverse City and the woods have lots of huge old growth trees. You don't want to miss playing Hickory Hills and Westside Beverage is just down the road if you need new plastic weapons.

Best course i have played. Don't always feel that way all the time cause it is so close to me. concrete tee pads on every hole along with trash bins. just about every kind shot out there.

this course would be a perfect A+, if the casuals had more respect for the land, other players, and course itself. i myself have had a disc stolen from off the fairway.

still this course is beautiful and a gem to play.

Love this course! Great layout and very challenging. The elevation changes are very nice out here. Nice variety of holes as well, as none are quite the same. Be prepared to walk a ton as the hills are huge!

i came up from detroit and i fell in love. from the very first hole, i knew this course would become one of my top 2 in the state. i have almost nothing negative to say about the course, aside from the short, cramped tee pads... i come from the land of flat ground and full length tee pads, so i guess I'm just spoiled. i LOVE this course, and i can't wait to try and get back to TC to play it again.

THIS is my FAVORITE course ! I've played in 10+ states and WOW ! As a ski resort in the winter , you can only imagine the hills and elevations you play through. Great balance of wooded and open shots . I played this with my wife and we had a blast ! I believe it is hole # 19 that has a Perfect View from the tee of Traverse City and the bay , then you throw like a 685' er with a decline you fly down , and "can" ace. This is a MUST play !!

This course is located in the hilly woods of a ski resort. It provides many elevation changing holes as well as many well placed trees as obstacles to navigate around. There are several holes that offer chances at aces. This is one of the best public courses I have ever played. The course is very fun, even for the beginner. This course is always packed so make sure you bring your patience.

Good course. Has a bit of everything. Only thing it could use would be a sign or two going & coming from a couple holes. & would be awesome if they opened that building with the running icebox up. Make some extra cash could do some work up there.

This is primarily a technical course where accuracy is more important than distance and every shot/disc in the bag is demanded at some point. Full review at dgcoursereview.com.

Awesome course and scenic views!

Played it last year and it was great. Came back to traverse city this year again for vacation and played it twice because it’s such an amazing course. Love when you come back to a course a year later and they have made improvements to make it even better. Thank you guys! This is one of my favorite courses I have ever played and I have played a ton of courses. Wish it was closer to home. Must play if you go to traverse city for vacation.

Played South course. The old Main course was one of, if not the best, course in the state, almost a perfect layout. South course is a good track, well worth playing, but not as good as the old Main course. Lots of the old holes are missing, some of my faves. You have to walk 1/3 mile to get from 16 to 17. On the plus side, hole 4 is improved from the old track, and I like hole 1 better. Some of the new holes are interesting. New teepads everywhere and brand new Discatchers with white bands make i ...

Vacationing for a few days in Traverse City and decided to check out Hickory Hills. This course is so much fun! 18 holes of well-thought hole designs that are mostly woodsy and hilly. This terrain was once a small ski resort. Not terribly long, aside from a few 500' holes. Somewhat of a shot-makers course, requiring some precision and shot shaping. The pins and tees have plenty of elevation change making for some really pretty looks. A fair number of blind shots, so first-timers like myse ...

I played Hickory South on the weekend of Aug 10 and found the course exceptional. It seems like it is say, 70% like the main course I remember. The best parts are the new, white-crowned Innova baskets and long, concrete tee pads (12 feet is my estimate). The tee signs are very good as well. What is yet needed in my appraisal is some"next tee" directionals as well as at least 1-2 connector holes. I could envision a nice short - but demanding - connecting hole between 8-9 or 9-10. Loc ...

Incredible course, absolutely one of the best in Michigan (especially if you love elevation). This course is on a ski hill and mostly deep woods with huge fairways cut out and up! Some OB, lots of fun downhill shots and many perilous tight throws with huge penalties for missing the fairway. A long 24 on a hot summer day, well worth the extra hour drive past our destination in Cadillac. I threw my longest shot ever on this course, over 600 feet to set up a 40 foot double eagle throw on a par 5 (technically because of the distance, but of course I actually play all par 3).

Very nice course! I really liked this one and will visit again! Good use of terrain. Lots of vertical. Great views of the city and bay on hole 19 (i think).

Only bad things I have to say about this course is the vandalism present. Every tee sign has graffiti and I was verbally warned by a local to lock your stuff up in your car. Gear gets stolen out of the back of pickups frequently.

This is a great course for working on your leg strength and practicing for a big event. Its on a ski hill so bring your hiking shoes, snacks and pleanty of drink....;) A good variety of shots for Righties and Lefties. I wish they would make alternate tee pads and pin placements. I don't like some the tee pads are boxed in the back of the tee pad. You know I like the running start........lmao. Other than that a great course to excersise your game and your stamina.

Very fun course but wish my cardio was better as there are multiple elevation changes requiring hiking up ski trails as this course is on ski hill. Though the hiking is challenging the course is less so with most holes under 300 feet with defined if narrow fairways. There are a couple of bomber down hill shots that are really fun and a nice view of the city and bay. Definitely worth a play if you are in the area.

Absolutely an amazing course. Loved the layout, the elevation. Navigation was fairly simple enough, still a map would be nice. The teepads were plently grippy & some well landscaped. Baskets in good shape. Tee signage was good, but very lacking in info concerning the location of the basket. After ascending & descending several holes, huffing & puffing all the way, this 50+ yr old got tired of having to tromp up & down the fairways to view the next basket. This is my favorite course away from my home course of Sedgley Woods in Philly. Hickory Hills offers a great variety of challenge with many elevation changes, wooded and open shots, long and short holes and, thankfully, no water hazard to dunk a disc into the drink. I'm used to 18 holes, so the 24 hole layout adds 33% to the fun. It's a great place to play. There's some minor punk behavior vandalism on the benches and tee signs, but that doesn't detract from the course layout itself. It's not ...

Home course I love this place it's a great all around course if I didn't play any other course again I would be fine this has for what you need it's rock solid layout and fun holes. It really is a mint I have played better not many. It's on a ski hill so the elevation is kinda a bi*** but if you like that you enjoy the course. This course is just a little to dense then my liking in the fairways and I like the hills but it is big hills and 1 round will sack you.

The most beautiful course I've played to date! Don't show up in flip-flops for a casual game, though. I'd recommend hiking boots or trail shoes, as there are a LOT of big elevation changes, but the views are well worth the climbing. There's a good mixture of forehand and backhand shots (for me anyway), as well as wide and narrow fairways. Most of the course is shaded and well kept. I loved playing this course, as it was my first time there! I liked the open fairways as I usually play courses with tighter fairways. The whole experience was great! Absolutely beautiful course. Some signs missing but not too difficult to navigate if you snap a picture of the map at hole one. I was on vacation and played all 24 between 615 and 815 in the morning. The course has a little of everything with huge elevation changes. A lot of people say the course could be better which I agree with but if you are in the area it is a must play. Overall fun course but it's a ski resort so you can only play in the summer. They pull the back nine out.

This is one of the first courses I played getting involved with disc golf. This is by far my favorite course and is one of the best course designs with good elevation changes throughout the course as well. I would love to see some of the big pros come play this course and give their opinions on it as well. I haven't got to play courses in other states but I think Northern Michigan has some amazing courses :)

This is one of the funnest courses I play. I'm an old guy now but I like the hike and every hole is different. Some uphills and several good downhill shots. I play the course in the off-season to avoid the casuals. Great course any time, one of the best in Michigan.

Very fun course! Wear good walking/hiking shoes and bring water in the summer. Good mix shots - I threw BH, FH, FH Rollers, BH Rollers. Some nice wooded shots but no chance of loosing a disc or rolling in ivy.

Best course I have played I good mixture of technical holes and holes that you have to bomb. The reviews I've read a lot of people complained about casuals but I've played here 3 times in the past 2 days, the first time played was yesterday. There has been a few casuals but not many at all when you would expect more considering it is cherry festival. All the uphill walking kinda sucks tho.

I was camping up near Traverse City, MI, decided to play a round before heading back to Detroit. Best decision I made, beautiful course, challenging holes, long rippers up hill and down hill, short ace runs. This course has just about everything you could want in a disc golf course. This was a great experience and I need to come back again, I cant wait.

Probably the only course I've played that is arguably more taxing than Toboggan with it's elevation. The holes are way easier to bird though so it's not going to completely shut out beginners by any stretch. Lovely course design, none of the holes feel like gimmicks.

It does need better signage for the holes, especially at the start it's easy to walk in circles trying to find 1, I had to pull out uDisc.

Worth a trip. Right there as to challenging Blad Mountain and Tobaggon for best in the state. Score to par is very fair and the hike is incredible. Save a beer for hole 16 and take it in. This place won't disappoint

Beautiful course hilly and difficult
only criticism I can come up with is thelack of signage between a few holes 9 to 10 and 16 to 17 needs better signage luckily I was able to use udisc to find my way other that it was a blast.

Signage could use improving. Without GPS on UDisc, I would have been lost a couple of times. There is now a really LONG walk between baskets 16 and 17, presumably because the ski hill is limiting what the course can do. As it stands right now, the original layout is superior to this latest reincarnation, but we will all have to reserve judgment until the North Course is completed. I hope it’s amazing.

First, as some have mentioned, it can be confusing and I saw people get lost. What I didn't notice until later is that the hole signs say where to go to get to the next hole. Add some more arrows and that aspect will be much improved.

Very fun and challenging course with big elevation changes. Requires a fair amount of power to reach some of the longer par 3's. It is a hike though! One of those courses that you love to play, but don't want to play too often.

South course open played Saturday. Beautiful course, great new tee pads, each tee has a map of the hole (as of late Aug 2019).

Best course I’ve played on. Locals are friendly.

After hole 16 dont go left up the hill. Keep going down and to the right. Look for 17 tee pad to the right a bit hidden.

TLDR… A- and has the potential to be one of the BEST disc golf courses/multiple course facilities in the country (they have plans for 1-2 more courses on this stunning track of land!). It’s pretty rough and unfinished right now, but most of the holes and the layout and possibilities to make even more insane holes is just massive! INCREDIBLY stunning piece of land! Highly recommend this place and would call it a destination course! So this course is new to me, and I’ve never played here ...

Tougher course. Not good signage at all, very hilly so come prepared! Nice baskets, no sign to tell you where to enter. Good course overall but if you are having tournaments please fix signage.

I know a lot of people love this course, but it's really not very good. The main problem is that it is outright dangerous in certain sections. There is often no good path to get from one area to the next and the passages are loose soil that is very steep. There are several "twisted ankle waiting to happen" areas that really detract from this course. Additionally the lack of signage indicating the direction of the next hole, where the basket is, etc. mean that for non-regulars something like UDisc is a must. You can safely skip this course and not miss much.
