New Layout!!
Two weeks ago the course underwent improvements and was updated for the 1st time in years.
Although some classic holes have disappeared, new, needed, more difficult holes have replaced them.
The new layout better utilizes a wonderfully wooded area that had only been used for three holes previously. Now woods are in play for 9 holes. There are short left, long left, short right, long right and, with the addition of 4 par four holes, much more distance than ever before on the cou ...

There are no tee pads, no signs, and the baskets are in terrible shape. It's not the kind of course that you would expect to pay to play. The park needs to put some of the money collected at the gate into this course. Burchfield Park has proven that locals are willing to pay for a great course and Fitzgerald has some amazing landscape that is unique to this park.

New layout is quite challenging. Definitely flows a lot better than it used to! Glad some of old holes are gone but also sad that some of them got taken out. This new layout utilizes parts of the park very well, it's now more wooded with some very nice additions. It's a pleasant stroll through the course with minimum traffic from walkers, joggers, etc. Nine cement pads are in! This course still needs a lot of work before I bring the rating up to an A. We need 9 more cement pads, a few jun ...

I liked this course a lot. Only played it once in the winter so far and never played the previous layouts, but the current routes through the trees are really cool. Local club has been raising money for baskets and other improvements and this is definitely a course I'll come back to play again.

Although woefully lacking in signage and long walks between holes, this is a nice challenging course. Good variety of long open holes and shorter and technical wooded holes that require left and right shot shaping. Mild elevation, concrete pads, forgiving rough and no water hazards. The ChainStar baskets are older but decent. A very clean and peaceful park.

this course should b alot better considering you have to pay 5 bucks to get in! there are no cement pads just dirt and a spray painted rock on some for the tee location... there are like 3 or 4 chainstar baskets and the rest look homemade... i was expecting more from this course...

Look..if you're going to charge, have some scorecards and signage to navigate the damn place. half our time was spent looking for the next hole.

I haven't played since spring of 2014, and starting off at this course was a good decision. It's 10 times better thanks to the donations from CCR and all the players that helped make new teepads happen. I hear they are also getting new chainstars and that will make this course perfect.

Course design is good for right / left, long / short throws. Existing park environment suits my taste for big trees and no silly thicket traps. New in -woods holes add variety but need clutter and pathway/fareway resolutions. Expect improvements will come naturally and full potential will be realized. I will visit again to enjoy progress.

no tee pads course gets changed too often with poor layout and trashy baskets missing chains and poorly set beside other than that its a poor disc course it could b realy nice but

This is a very nice course with a great mix of holes out in the park with lanes through giant trees where you can rip it, and more technical holes in the woods. A great combo for sure. Cons right now are the terrible baskets-they should be replaced this spring-and the long walks from many baskets to the next teepads. This course will be at least a B+ course worthy of playing often, once the new baskets are put in.

Every hole here was great, but that really can't take away from the other glaring problems this course has.
Unfortunately, I have to say I have never been to a course with a layout more poor than this. I couldn't find my way from one hole to the next on several occasions. Proper signage needs to be an area that is focused on here. The bugs were also absolute awful in the woods.

Hopefully people edit their reviews now that the concrete pads are in and the course has been updated.

SUMMARY: Maintenance required. Ledges, where? Thomas Kinkade, IRL. Beware of bio-hazards.
Note: I am not a >900 rated player. That said, I play a LOT of solo disc golf. I refer below only to those things that challenge, frustrate, and/or excite me. YMMV
THE GOOD:
August Majesty:
The park, particularly right now in Autumn, is absolutely gorgeous. The trees and leaves and colors... I hardly minded the poor 10 - 16 travel, as it afforded me time to really take in the scenery. Spying the pon ...

Could use legit signs. Other than that this course is amazing. First time being there will be back for the tourney Sunday!

Very nice course. I came on the off season so I wasn't able to get a map. But I kept on it and found the hidden stash on one. Have to make it back for the scenic outlooks.

I was upset to get there and discover the layout. Way too long of walks in between holes. The pics need updated, because the holes have changed. I found it to have some beautiful holes followed by some worse than average. When your walking a football fields length to get to the next tee, this is wrong. Didn't like throwing thru the park as families were playing and eating. Overall I would say, I won't go back anytime soon. Potential is unlimited, nice land and space.

Cement pads, signs, trash cans needed badly. If there is an event or holiday don't plan on playing first 4 holes.
+0 votes Nick English › January 9, 2012
The first 14 or so holes are great. I really enjoy the holes where there are large trees (oak or ash or something) 70+ ft tall just thick enough to challenge a player, but that still leave viable lanes open. They are just beautiful holes. There are also numerous holes with elevation changes of 20 feet or more. However, the last few holes really taint the experience as you throw around a sewage tank of some sort. Yay. A redesign of the last few holes could elevate this course to A- status if done well.

No tee pads like the old course better but ok job on new layout
+0 votes Ed Carpus › July 5, 2012
Been a long time since I played it, but I remember wishing it was in my backyard! The alternate holes they had set up for the tournament were a great addition, and the park itself is so scenic it makes the round worth it. Would definately be improved by cement teepads, but wearing your golf cleats helps alot too :)

With some cement pads it would diffently be a A course like the new layout lots of memorable holes!

Its was raining yesterday, so there was some standing water in some of the tee boxes. Could use signs or additional markings for some of the tees. However, there have been improvements made since the last time I was here, with little flags marking the tee boxes. Overall, nice course, a good mix of open and wooded holes, and its improving.

Awsome course just in major need of tee pads, signs, and new baskets
+0 votes Marquita Bernard › June 29, 2012
Hole 12 really needs to have a few trees removed. Plus the smell of the water treatment plant can be quite unpleasant. But I like the course.
+0 votes Andrew Tuma › September 4, 2012
great scenery, love the ledges. nice elevation holes (down sledding hill, uphill in the woods, across the field through treeline) and variety. wish there was actual markings for the holes, and dirt teepads kinda suck, but the scenery and variety are well worth it.
+0 votes Gerrett Lawrence › August 30, 2012
I like Fitz, it has a lot elevation and a good mix of wooded and field courses the only drawback being that it has no pads other than a few chips here and there. Still a lot of fun though.
+0 votes Amber Velte-Rice › September 13, 2012
I love this course (especially since my birdie on Hole 3!!)! A nice variety & a good hike! Dirt pads, but that goes along with the "nature" of the park!
+0 votes Zach Story › February 22, 2021
I have no qualms with the current layout, besides Holes 9, 17, and 18 can literally smell. Overall a pretty nice course with a nice mix of open and wooded holes.

I live around here and I'm within walking distance. The layout is great, but we need tee pads and signs.
+0 votes cody duggins › February 9, 2014
Really fun course just tough to actually see and play in the snow.
+0 votes Matt Blackburn › October 6, 2014
Directions to next tee not marked very well on most holes. Concrete tee pads on every hole. Some of the baskets are a little wonky.
+0 votes Zack Allen › September 6, 2016
Great course but if your not a local you can get turned around. Tees are kinda skinny but all in all a fun course to play.

I have been told that this was a new layout. I have to say I like it, had fun with a couple locals very friendly. Thankfully I had a tour guide, navigation is non existent. Some paper next tee signs were present and some paper tee signs existed but were woefully inadequate. Many fun short technical holes, be prepared to strike trees on every other hole. Very clean course and pay to play. Even though playing In summer no mosquitoes, no water. Elevation and variety of shots make this one very hig ...

Above Park working out in Lansing with CCR? Heck yeah. Undoing the damage of many storms and getting this course back into proper form.

Good mix of woods and park-style golf. Layout can be a bit confusing your first time out. Bugs are often surprisingly sparse

This course has improved greatly over the years. The park crew does a great job maintaining the course. Free to Play. Great mix of open, elevation changes and technical wooded holes.

This park is another home course for me. It is pretty challenging and quite unforgiving. Good variety, with some pretty long holes. Well maintained!

This course was a bit of a drive for me, but well worth it (especially with the Grand Woods course only 7 miles away, so we could hit both in the same day). At the time I played this course, the basket for #5 was under a rock ledge and made for one of the most scenic courses I had ever played .... my rating of this course is up from a B to a B+ just for that basket. Unfortunately, I've heard that the basket placement has changed... still a great course though (love the raskets!) if you are in the area.
-1 votes Bob Knapp › October 24, 2011
So many changes to the course in the last few years -- even with a map you would be confused. However, still fun -- lots of birdie holes, but nothing ridiculously easy.
-1 votes Michael Snider › February 21, 2012
nice features in elevation, wooded areas and open fields. beautiful course!

Certainly a challenge to make it thru the course. The terrain is tough on tennis shoes. The scenery is awesome. I feel the vibe whenever I play there. Echoes of the past.
If you like challenging courses, this is the one for you.

played in 2003 and only found 7 holes and could not find hole one. played again in 2007 and it was much better was only a 18 hole course then

When i was out at the course it was under construction. I know they guys at CCR have since finished the course. Tee pads and signs also now installed. Cant wait to get out and see how it stands up to the old layout I used to love so much when I was a kid.
