Dual purpose course. Primarily a ball golf course, but 2 disc golf baskets, tee pads and signs were installed for all 9 holes which allows the course to play like a 36-hole course. Pros: The course itself is absolutely beautiful. The views on these holes is reason enough to play it. The dual pin positions (red/blue) with the dual tee-pad locations offer the ability to play Alt or Main layouts to switch things up - offering a wide array of shots. Cons: You're pretty much only encouraged to play on Thursdays ($10) as that's the best rate. Any other day and the price is >$20. There are plans to get this improved, but for now thats it. Play Thursdays. The tee pads themselves are crappy rubber mats in desperate need of repair.

The golf course itself does not care much about the disc golfers and neglects it completely. Fortunately there are a strong group of club members that play disc golf who help maintain the course and act as a mediator between the two. Full DISClosure: I was the primary course designer here. I'll do my best to give an objective opinion. Hilly, lots of distance, often windy, more open than most disc golf courses because it's a golf course and the disc golf course follows the flow of golf (i.e. it doesn't criss cross the golf fairways). It's a place where you can air it out, but don't fool yourself into thinking that it's not technical in its own way: you must avoid some water hazards, golf greens, and sand traps, which are all OB. Then the baskets themselves are often set in precarious landing zones where the slightest misthrow can result in a nasty roll away. Overall there are many types of shots you'll need to succeed here, and you have to be able to putt accurately, or you'll be adding strokes.

Emerald has attracted a small local following, but often gets visited by players from around the region who want to practice on a golf course style course with length and major elevation changes. Currently there are two league days: Tuesday and Thursday, where the greens fees are a miniscule $7 (another $5 for weekly cash including a lucrative ace and eagle pot), once you purchase a $20 bag tag that's good for the year. Most people play there on these days. Because of the course design, there are two tees and two baskets on each golf hole, there are two fully different courses we call main and alternate. Main is the back tees to the blue baskets and the front tees to the reds, and alternate (or alt) is the back tees to the red baskets and the front tees to the blues. The pro shop folks are really nice, and they have a decent selection of discs for sale, and they do a good job of finding lost discs and calling players back. Make sure you ink your plastic!
