October Calendar

Check out our new Sunday event...Goofy Golf!! *Theme to be determined at each event!* You may play all forehand, all rollers, an alternate course, or maybe even opposite hand doubles. Anything is possible. :) On the 17th we're headed to Fort Walton to play Ferry Park! Keep posted as I'm sure we'll have a few carpooling.

Lots of stuff going on this month!! Of course the Wacky Warden Tournament is Saturday (8/1) but don't forget about the course clean up and random dubs going on in Freeport this month!! We're still trying out the new Saturday local league times so if you feel like catching a few more zzzz's...come out and join us at 10am instead! Also, the Sunday shot clinics have been moved to 2pm. You don't want to miss these as they've been an awesome addition with the club coming toge ... more

Night League

Due to security reasons, Night League will be held at FSU this month on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm. Yes, it will be dark. It is a night league after all. We ask that you bring glow discs and/or lights or reflective tape for your discs to reduce time spent looking for discs. We will have glow discs, lights, and black light flashlights available to buy for anyone who may be interested. Also, we would like to put glow sticks on at least the front nine baskets each night as there isn†... more

BIG NEWS!!!

We have a new course going up in Panama City!! Our friends at Leisure Services are allowing us to design an 18 hole course with an additional putting green that we hope will become a signature course for our area. It will play through Bay Memorial Park on Garden Club Drive between Balboa Avenue and Florida Avenue. We plan to utilize the parking lot between the new dog park and the walking track. This course has lots of opportunities for a very wooded, technical, and creative layout including a ... more

We have a new course going up in Panama City!! After the club meeting this morning, a few of us walked through the park to brainstorm some ideas. We would like to get everyone involved in the course design and in volunteering to get the course established. We still have a lot of hoops to jump through but will have our sights set on a great new course within six months.

Thanks to everyone who came out this morning for the meeting and also to the few that joined us in walking the park. In addition to the meeting, we also played a round of 18 at Joe Moody. Congrats to Jacquelin N Rusty Robertson for winning the raffle and also to Jw Adams for acing alternate pin locations for holes 5 & 9!!

Other big news discussed at the meeting...we will soon have t-shirts and bag tags with our new logo available to order. Also, reminder that we are playing at Ferry Park in Fort Walton Beach on September 20th and that is also the last day to register for the Ace Race being held on October 4th.

Upcoming Events!

We will be having Handicaps at Under The Oaks on Saturday, February 22nd. Two rounds of 18...Flex start: Show up anytime between 9am to 10am to complete your two rounds for scores to be calculated into the handicap system.

On a side note, FSU course will be closed due to general maintenance and concreting teepads from February 23rd through March 1st (possibly longer). Also, FSU will be holding an open house on February 22nd so there will be a full campus with the possibility of overcrowding o ... more

Handicap League Details

To summarize club memberships, to be a member of the Panama City “Chain Gang” Disc Golf Club is completely free. Each member will be placed in a handicap system to be used in weekly events. There will be an additional points league starting March 15th for the duration of 4 months with a $5 buy-in per player. Points will be earned based on participation at each course and handicapped score. Points earned from each course will be combined together ultimately to compete for prizes in June. Tournaments and other club events will be designated as handicaps or not.

Handicap League

Alright frolfers! Lets give this handicap/point system a try. The first turnout will be at FSU at 9:00 AM Saturday, 02/15/14 for two rounds of 18. It would help to have at least 3 recorded rounds on the FSU campus, but if not then we will start you at par and work from there. I would like to have at least 10 people to keep this league going, so lets hope for a good turnout.

P.S. There are no fees/prizes/tags as of yet so this trial run handicap will be for bragging rights and working out the bugs! See you guys and gals Saturday!

We are going out with a bang for this tournament to end the 2013 year (even though its a little late). We are also taking this opportunity to discuss the new club format and what is to come for the club in 2014. There are lots of things upcoming for the Chain Gang and I hope to see each and every player participate at some point in the day 02/08.

There are lots of things that I would like to do in collaboration with Compass Lake as well as surrounding clubs (Fort Walton Beach, Freeport, Ft. Rucker, Tallahassee, Thomasville). If we can get the people that we need to this 2-Disc Challenge, there will be much more to come for our club at Compass Lake and our home courses. I hope to see as many people as possible on Sunday 01/19/14!!!!

POINTS WILL BE AWARDED AS FOLLOWS:
• 1 point for contact with basket and under metal.
• 3 points for contact with chains and top of basket.
• 7 points for ace.

Format:
Two rounds of 9 , Two throws per player per hole. Both throws scored.

Course Layout:
Holes are generally shortened to between 100 and 250 feet.

Rules of Play:
Players are required to use the two discs, and only these discs. If a disc is lost, the player can substitute a new disc. Only two throws per player per hole. Groups of up to eight are generally acceptable, depending on course, time of day and TD discretion.

Each player should have their own scorecard and mark “7” for aces and “1” or “3” for holes on which they hit metal.

After all players in the group have thrown, discs are picked up and the group moves directly to the next tee. Players keep their scorecards for round two, using the next line on the card to record the round.

The player with the highest score after the second round is declared the winner. In case of ties, a closest to the pin contest is then held to determine the winner.

Turkey Toss on November 10, 2012

4th Annual Turkey Toss Disc Golf Tournament by the city of Millville to be held at Joe Moody Park on November 10, 2012. We are having the 1st bag tag challenge this Saturday at the disc golf course in Freeport, Chain Dragon. This is an 18 basket course that has a great combination of hazards and fairways. It is less than an hour from Panama City at the intersection of hwy 331 and hwy 20. Really not that far at all. If you need directions please send us an email. We are planning on playing two rounds of 18. The first round will be for bag tags, which everyone who plays will need. If you do not have a bag tag we will be signing people up at the challenge and a tag will be issued to you at a cost of $10 per membership. If you have never played the Freeport course it is recommended that you obtain a floater disc, which will float in water. Depending on how many people attend, we will separate into small groups, like we did in April, and start at different holes at 9 a.m.. Someone in your group needs to keep score of everyone in your group. Keeping up with your own score would be a good idea.With this bag tag challenge there will be no divisions. Everyone who has a tag will be competing for a better tag no matter the age or gender. There will be no cook out, lunch is on your own. There is a local Hardee's and Subway in Freeport among other local establishments. The weather is looking great on Saturday so we should have a great day to play.

After the 1st round and tags are organized for each player, you may either leave or stay for a doubles round of 18 holes. This round you will have a partner and play as a team. I don't believe this round will be for tags as it will just be for fun and something we have not tried yet. If all goes well we will have more team tournaments and challenges in the future.



If you plan on attending please send a reply email back to us so we may get an estimate as to how many people plan on attending. We have received several emails from people who plan on attending, but we would really like to have everyone come out. You do not have to let us know, you may just show up Saturday morning if you wish. You can contact any of the staff on our discgolfscene.com page for more details.



There 2nd bag tag challenge the following Saturday, September 29th, at the same Freeport course. This bag tag challenge will also be a Panama City Chain Gang event with Turbo Tim heading it up. Tim is planning on playing a bag tag challenge round of 18 as well, and is thinking of having a cook out also. Please contact Turbo Tim for more details and keep checking our site on Discgolfscene/pccg.com, plus Mike Bennett has started a Facebook page for our disc golf club, 'Panama City Chain Gang.' Please check both of these sites as they will have more details to follow.



We hope you will come out for either one, or even better both, of these events as we look forward to playing with old friends and new faces. We know we haven't had a group play since our initial kick off last April, so we are really hoping we have a great turn out in Freeport to see how many members are still playing, and to get an idea as to how many members want to keep having other bag tag challenges, tournaments, and events. Remember we are about half way to our annual tournament in April and over due for an event such as this. So start practicing your putting, get your bags ready, and bring your A game because this Saturday tags will be up for grabs!!

I would like some suggestions to pass on to the Millville Alliance to help them make the tournament even better the next time. It seems to me (and most people I talked to) that they did a real good job. If they made any mistakes, it wasnt from lack of effort because they put a lot of work into it and tried their best to make it run as smooth as possible. Which ever division you wish to play in, you need to make sure you are there for registration 15-30 min. before your division play starts. If you plan on playing in the team division, with your team, you may want to make sure you have a team and get everyone there between 8-8:30 to register. Teams will consist of 4 players per team. ACE'S

Congratulations to Chris (Catfish) Bennett and Scott Ramsey for throwing an ace this week. Catfish threw one on hole #4 at Joe Moody on Monday. It was his first ace after many that have went through the chains. He used a Buzz that he hardly ever uses. I bet he will use it more from now on.
And Tuesday, Scott threw a Super Stingray into the chains on hole number 3 at Under the Oaks. That was the first ace I have ever witnessed. It was his 3rd ace.

There is some confusion on tags being in right order. I would appreciate it if everyone would let me know the tag you have at this time if it is different than what board says. Another thing that I need is to make sure you submit the score in our bag tag challenge 2012 league site. Also, according to the rules, you must have your tag when playing. So, if you dont have your tag, you cannot play for a tag. DO NOT give up your tag if you are not receiving one. We now have one guy with 2 tags and 2 people without a tag.

The Millville Redevelopment Community Agency and the city of Panama City Leisure Servvices are hosting the event, "The Third Annual Spring Fling Disc Golf Tournament," will take place Saturday June 2nd, 2012 located at Joe Moody Harris Park 2300 E. 9th Court. Zoom on pictures and vote on Freeport

Two things: Don't forget to check out the zoom feature on pictures from different disc golf courses. It is a cool feature that let's you zoom in to a certain area, such as, if you can't see the basket in the picture from a tee pad use the zoom feature at the bottom of that picture and it may zoom towards the basket making it much easier to spot.
Also, vote on your favorite picture from the Freeport course page.

PDGA Women's Global Event at Ft. Walton Beach, Ferry Park this Saturda

Another great event in our area this Saturday in Ft. Walton Beach. This is titled a women's event, but I have been assured men are playing as well. I believe the tournament in Freeport last saturday was the closest PDGA tournament to Panama City and this would be the second. Tallhassee is having a weekend tournament in June, so you may want to check it out as well. This is a C-tier tournament but space is limited to 90 players. They are a great group over at Playground disc golf club, plus ... more

2nd Annual Let the Dragons Fly tournament

Yesterday was the 2nd Annual Let the Dragons Fly tournament at Freeport. It was sponsored by Eat. Sleep. Disc. out of Birmingham, a PDGA event. We had eight PCCG players play in yesterdays tournament, and what a great job they did. BAG TAG

I just wanted to give a little insight to how the bag tags are working out so far. Some people are challenging one on one and some are just meeting as a group and everybody playing for each others tags. Either way is fine. I just encourage you to get out and play with your tags on the line. I know one thing, it makes it a lot more stressful when you are about to lose a #16 and drop down to a 22 like I did the other day. I just encourage you to get out and play with your tags on the line. I know one thing, it makes it a lot more stressful when you are about to lose a #16 and drop down to a 22 like I did the other day. But the next game, I won the 12 tag so it all worked out until I lost that the next day and now am sitting at 13.
That is how it is going to happen. You could lose to someone way below you but then you will find yourself right back up where you were or higher (actually lower). Dont worry if your tag is in the teens and the person you are playing is in the twenties. If he is better than you, he should be up there. If he just has a better day than you, you can take it back the next time you play. If everyone will play no matter what ranking the person you are playing is, it will make it a lot more fun for everyone. If you are not letting people below you challenge you, then it is not fair to be able to challenge those above you.
So get out there and play for the tags. I cant stress enough how different it is and how much more fun it is when your tag is on the line.

1. The purpose of the PCCG Bag Tag challenge is to encourage new and seasoned disc golfers to engage in friendly bag tag rounds.
2. Tags must be attached to your bags and carried wherever you are playing and must remain visible at all times.
3. You may challenge anyone carrying a tag regardless of how high the defender’s tag number is… (number 85 can challenge number 1).
4. The challenge must be accepted and played within 2 weeks or the defender must gra ... more

4. The challenge must be accepted and played within 2 weeks or the defender must graciously forfeit his tag to the challenger.
5. If you MUST leave during a challenge round (for any reason) the defender must again give up his tag to the challenger. (Yes, dire emergencies are different.)
6. At all singles tournaments, tags will be surrendered to any Club Staff member and will be returned by score order after the tournament. Basically, any singles tournament is automatically a Bag Tag tournament for ALL club members in attendance.
7. Personal challenges must be made in person, by email, by phone or on the DiscgolfScene website. Do NOT rely on the website as some do not have constant access to computers or Internet. Phone calls are obviously best.
8. For personal challenges, the parties involved must come up with no less than 2 possible times and locations for the challenge. This will increase the chance that the challenge can be resolved.
9. Once the challenge has been played, results must be reported via whatever means necessary to Club Staff members so that the current rankings can be changed to reflect the challenge.
10. The challenging player determines the course and BOTH parties must agree on the number or rounds with a minimum of 9 holes (one round) being played.
11. Players that tie during a Bag Tag round or Personal Challenge will have a one hole playoff on Hole number one at their current location, closest to the pin wins the tie… OR if ALL parties involved in the tie agree, any hole can be chosen, closest to the pin determines the winner. If multiple players are involved, the closest distance to the pin wins the lowest tag number involved, second closest gets the next higher tag and so on…
12. All Bag Tag challenges must be scored on Scorecards
13. If you lose your tag you may purchase another one with the same number, at your cost.


These are simply guidelines… Plenty or revisions and rethinking and revamping for all kinds of potential scenarios are always possible. To be honest, the real intention is for all of us to have FUN and enjoy the fact that we have two courses here in Panama City and, as we have discovered by the turnout, there are a whole bunch of us that play Disc Golf!! Let’s get out there and play! Let’s promote the sport and watch it grow! In time, the activity will get more and more attention and we will be in a position to show that we are just as valuable to the community as softball or soccer or any other sport!

If you guys want the number one tag, you will have to come thru me as of tomorrow morning. And you thought Kirk couldnt be beat. Sometimes you just have to out-smart your opponent and I think I just did that. He has promised he will have the bag tag rules posted by 12:00 tonight or we will switch tags. From prior experience with kirk (this is the third time he has promised this) I feel confident I will wake up #1. So line up to try to win number one from the true champion starting tomm.

If you have never been to the course in Freeport "Chain Dragon" it is a beautiful 18 basket course. Almost a combination of our two parks, Joe Moody and UTO, but with a couple of holes that are more 'open' and there are a few water hazards along the course which really make it interesting. SUBMITTING CHALLENGE RESULT

When you complete an individual or group challenge, you should go to our league site and submit bag tag results. After one of us verify it, you will have your new tag number listed. We will usually try to contact all players involved by email to verify it. Please respond as soon as possible so we can get it listed.

Tour the site

When you get the chance take a look around the site. You can post pictures and videos. List the discs you carry in your bag, list the different courses you have played and even write reviews to grade those courses. Check out the rivalry also where you can challenge your friends when you post your score. They have some good catagories and places to list stuff for your disc golf game so take advantage of what they have to offer. Have a great game!

Ties will be broken by a closest to pin on hole number one. Fee to join bag tag league is $10.00.This covers your club fee and pays for your tag. It does not cover tournament entry fee. This must be paid on the tournament date or before to be eligible for a tag at that time. If you cannot make tournament or havnt paid for ... more

Getting it together

Hi guys, just wanted to say we have flyers up at Sports Authority and both parks. So spread the word so we can get others to join. We only have three weeks till our first bag tag tournament! We also need design and art ideas for both our logo and bag tags. Next week will be our last week to accept ideas and designs so get them in asap! Otherwise I'll have to draw stick figures and a basket. We have lots of ideas, however we are always looking for new ideas and comments.
