This is an incredibly exciting day for the Whistlers Bend Doubles Shootout!
This event will be the FIRST ever trial (well in a long time) PDGA D Tier event. This gives our event access to PDGA live scoring, insurance (which is a huge deal) and all the other perks that come along with running a sanctioned event in terms of organization and tools for a tournament staff.
Here is what this means and hopefully can answer a few questions.
1. This is a PDGA event now, but no ratings since it is doubles.
2. As a "D Tier" drinking IS ALLOWED during tournament play! Obviously within reason to not have a negative impact on the other people you are playing with.
3. We get to use PDGA Live Scoring so no more paper scorecards!!! The park also now has WIFI in the campgrounds so all players can get their scoring started regardless of cell service out there.
4. We get PDGA insurance which is huge to not have to seek outside insurance quotes
5. We will pay the PDGA $2/player but all non-member fees are being waved by the PDGA for us since we are a trial event for this to see if it works.
6. You will be able to access the PDGA page to see your starting holes, tee times and scores so no more waiting for us to hang up a scoreboard or pieces of paper to see how you stack up.
7. I am going to add some more teams to fill out divisions, all rounds will be shotgun start this year since live scoring make it way easier to do that without having tons of paper cards some in to add up all at once. The schedule will be updated on discgolfscene soon.
This is very exciting for us as a tournament staff for the PDGA to give us this opportunity. We made sure Dubs will have the same fun feel without taking away the ability to have a beer during the round while we get to use the tools that make tournaments run smoothly and everyone is used to!
I was able to have some Zoom calls with some high up people at the PDGA to talk about how this would work and a huge thank you to Dion Arlyn who is now working for the PDGA to help make this happen!
If you have questions, shoot them my way and I'll do my best to answer them.

You DO NOT need a paid UDisc account. Just a free one works fine.
That's cool to hear. I did not even realize there was such a thing as free uDisc any more. It seemed to me that one day it simply would not work any more without paying. I guess I just could not figure it out. Thanks!
