I have so many plans for this year and cannot wait to share all of them with you.
Our growth in the club from 2022 to 2023 was amazing.
Last year we fully opened Heritage Pines and it has quickly become one of the more popular courses on this side of Atlanta, and I feel like we are just getting started with it. We started our weekly dubs on Sundays and have routinely seen 20-30 people show up to play every week. We were able to get the club recognized as a non profit. The club along with Lincoln Griffin were able to host our first tournament at the Pines and I have plans to see many more this year at both Heritage and some local/neighboring courses.
I have some new ideas to spice up tags this year in order to get the weekly participation a little more exciting/worthwhile, as well as include Heritage Pines a little more for tags.
I hope to continue to be able to work with Jordan Flores over at The Disc Syndicate to continue to figure out how we can benefit our local scene, such as the drop box we were able to install at JRM and help manage at Heritage.
Last year a lot of the focus was kind of on getting our base set up within the club and at Heritage. This year I want us to use what we built up last year to really focus on hosting events and more exciting opportunities for us to come together as a group of disc golfers and just enjoy not only the sport we all love but the group we get to do it with. I have played quite a few tournaments where WDGC made up 20-30% of the entire player base. And that is just awesome.
If you would like to be involved in helping to grow disc golf here in Walton County. The best way you can do that is joining the club and just playing with us! When we all come together, we can really funnel our efforts in specific ways that are not only fun to be involved in but have a lasting impact for those that come from our surrounding areas because they see what we accomplish.
We are so lucky to have a community like the one we do, and I cant wait to see it get better this year in 2024.
