Cannonball Open Review:
1.) A very cleanly ran tournament. I can not compliment the TD and staff enough on the actual running of the tournament. Very well done!
2.) The course: I've never played Wabash City Park before, but was surprised with how technical the course is. There is a TON of OB areas, including a few baskets with OB less just feet from the basket. With the specific layout used for Cannonball Open, my only complaint was with the holes 17, 18 and A areas. There was lots of discs flying each direction over this field, particularly with 18 & A. Very dangerous at times, but only in this 18/A area... the rest of the layout seemed perfectly fine. My only suggestion would be the have an automobile-traffic flagger posted near A's basket, and make the roadway the intended line, while placing a mando (left) on the tree. This would prevent the dangerous situation with 18/A, but it would shut down the road.
3.) I liked the fact that the scoring staff was in a completely different building, this prevented people from gathering around and trying to sneak peaks at scores and card assignments.
4.) I wished the TD/Staff would make use of social media a little more on tournament day. With the rush of all 70+ players trying to view cards at the exact same moment, it was hard to figure out hole assignments and make it to the holes on time for tee-off. I wish TD could post hole assignments publicly on social media so I could just get the info without having to fight the crowd. The use of social media for announcements would have also cut players meeting time in half.
5.) The tee-off time was 10am..... seems way too late to start a tournament of this size. It was 7pm-ish before all the awards and ceremonies were done. The industry standard for tournaments in my experience is 9am, which seems much more reasonable. Granted, I'm splitting hairs on this one, but nothing was gained by the 10am start time.
6.) All in all, a very well run tournament. Good job!
