THROWDOWN TEAM TOURNAMENT
Saturday morning/afternoon features a 27-hole stroke play team Throwdown tournament using an ideal roster of 4 players -- 1 open, 1 woman, 1 master (will be age 40+ in 2023), and 1 recreational (<899 rated).
Less-than-ideal teams can register and will play with a handicap.
FIELD IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 27 TEAMS TO HAVE ALL FOUR MEMBERS REGISTERED. Waitlists will be used
Cards will be sorted randomly by roster with no two players from the same team on the same card. A team’s 4 players' scores will be combined. The accumulated team score will be adjusted by their team handicap.
Combined team score +/- handicap will determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams with Desktop Discatcher trophies for all podium finishers.
Throwdown Handicap System
An “Ideal” team is made up of one player from each of the following divisions: Woman, Rec <899, Master 40+, Open. We have set the “scratch” team rating at 3600 (Open 970 + Master 930 + Woman 830 + Rec 870 = 3600). One stroke for each 10 points will be used for the handicap factor. Decimals .5 and above rounded up to whole number.
Ideal teams whose roster members’ combined player ratings are below 3600 will have their team score reduced by 100% of the difference between the team’s combined rating and the scratch team rating. Ideal teams rated higher than 3600 will have their scores increased by 75% of the difference between their team rating and the scratch rating.
“Less-Than-Ideal” teams whose roster members’ combined player ratings are below 3600 will have their team score reduced by 75% of the difference between the team’s combined rating and the scratch team rating. Less-than-Ideal teams rated higher than 3600 will have their scores increased by 100% of the difference between their team rating and the scratch rating.
Players without an established PDGA rating will be assigned a rating based on their average scores relative to other team members.
Team A Example: Woman = 840, Rec = 765, Master = 895, Open = 945; Team A rating = 3445. Team A is Ideal and their rating is below the scratch, so 3600 – 3445 = 155 handicap. With a ten-point factor (155/10=15.5), their handicap is 100% of 16. Therefore, Ideal Team A would have 16 strokes deducted from their combined score.
Team B Example: Woman = 935, Rec = 890, Master = 975, Open = 1000; Team B rating = 3800. Team B is Ideal and above the scratch, so 3600 – 3800 = -200 handicap. With a ten-point factor (200/10=20), their handicap is 75% of 20. Therefore, Ideal Team B would have 15 strokes added to their combined score.
Team C Example: Male Rec = 815, Rec = 905, Master = 870, Open = 925; Team C rating = 3515. Team C is Less-Than-Ideal (no woman player) and below the scratch, so 3600 - 3515 = 85. With a ten point factor (85/10=8.5), their handicap is 75% of 9. Less-Than-Ideal Team C would have 7 strokes deducted from their combined score.
Team D Example: Woman = 900, Rec = 930, Master = 950, Open = 970; Team rating =3720. Team D is Less-Than-Ideal (Rec >900) and above the scratch, so 3600-3750 = -150 handicap. With a ten-point factor (150/10=15, the handicap is 100% of 15. Less-than-Ideal Team D would have 15 strokes added to their combined score.
