Right but I guess my question really is... why is it required this time when in the turkey toss did not require a membership?

They changed the rules. B Tiers you now need a membership. This is why I'm running a 1 round C tire on Sunday- so people without memberships can also play if they want

Are we required to have a pdga number for this event? If so, why?

Yes- Caddys are responsible for following all the same rules as competitors and knowing/observing event etiquette (I point this out to avoid drama, if someone's caddy is smoking or dinking on the job, the player gets Dq'd - none of us wants to be involved in any f that)
