About this tournament
The Mesmerize At Kelley Park is a disc golf tourney that has been running since 2018. I cannot explain exactly when my obsession with aliens started, but I assure you it was back in the 1970’s. Disc golf grabs us like an obsession. We play in all of our free time until we get ready to compete in tourneys and then we dive into that world. Whether you are brand new to the world of tournament play, or you have been competing in the PDGA for 20 plus years, it might seem as if an Alien was focusing you into the game! Welcome to being Mesmerized!
Kelley Park has grown into an amazing course in its young life. The old orchard has been worn in to hold challenging lines both low and high around the trees. Thanks to the incredible efforts by the Silicon Valley Disc Golf Club headed by Freddy Rodriguez we have amazing concrete tee pads to drive from. We hold this tourney in the early spring to show off her greener side and provide a richer experience.
I am lucky that my good friend Jef Wind introduced me to the sport of Disc Golf back in 1998. Our shared experiences of getting art on discs and getting those discs in the hands of golfers goes back almost as far. Jef is one of the most prolific creative minds I have ever known, and he takes ideas and transforms them into fantastic images before most of us get up in the morning. Jef Wind creates the artwork for the Mesmerize as well as hand crafting the most unique and coveted trophies in the sport for us right here at the Mesmerize.
I am one of the fortunate players that got noticed by the right people at the right time. Back in 2018 Legacy Discs gave me the chance to represent their company as a disc golfer, and I am very proud to throw their plastic and travel the country to compete representing them. Legacy has maintained their foundation of a family run company crafting only the best quality products even as they have grown beyond their humble start. They remain a company for disc golfers by disc golfers and the plastic they produce is amazing.
Fredy Rodriguez has begun a new sponsorship with Gorilla Disc Golf and we are excited to bring a jersey with their unique style to the players this year.
A few years back we here at The Mesmerize began a partnership with Whirlwind Discs, a company founded by the sports legend Leornard Muise. Leonard's career spans many decades as a top player, renown course designer, and now heading the largest mobile disc store in the land. Whirlwind will serve as the store to payout the am script on Sunday and the store will be set up showcasing an amazing collection of signature series molds!
Format: For another year we will break the tourney into two pools and have each pool play from a shotgun start. One pool will be all the pro divisions as well as MA1. The other pool will be all the rest of the Armature divisions. We will plan to have the all am pool begin their shotgun start early Saturday the 5th of April, and the Pro plus MA1 pool will play the afternoon shotgun start. The next morning the pools switch. The pros and MA1 will play the morning shotgun start. The Am pool will have their shotgun start in the afternoon. Trophies and script will be paid out shortly after the conclusion of the pools play Sunday, so pros and MA1 will get trophies and (MA1 script) after their round. When the AM pool finishes later in the afternoon on Sunday trophies and script will be distributed. This format brings the whole tourney together in those unique times between pools but mostly groups the pools for bonding before and after play in the way only a shotgun start format can.
Saturday check in: Before pool play begins, expect to check in. All players will get a pair of Tee-Box Socks with Jef Wind’s artwork on them. Am players will get the full players package of a Legacy Disc, Tee-Box Socks, and a Gorilla Disc Golf jersey. Do not forget, there is a parking fee of $6 to be paid upon entering the parking lot, every car will need to purchase a daily pass.
