It has been an interesting day, one filled with many questions about how we planned to enforce the mando on hole 12. Although Steve at the PDGA confirmed that our prior handling of the updated mando rule was valid, the conversation left me with questions. You see, this rule has recently been updated, and the language and terms of enforcement lead to TD discretion as to how to call it. Making the cage restricted space is ok, but obviously less popular. After long discussions with our TD crew we have decided two things. One, that having a mando now is a headache that I would advise avoiding if you plan to TD. Two, the fact that the PDGA is allowing TD's to determine the restricted space means that you will see this rule enforced differently in every event you play.

We are changing the penalty for hitting the cage. You will no longer lose a stroke for cage hits and you will not have to go to the drop zone if you hit the cage and bounce backward toward the tee pad. It will not change too much since the mando pole is skinny and round, but consider now that the cage sits right in front of the restricted space, so it is possible to hit the mando and either bounce through or bounce back and be able to try a second time to go through the mando.

We will discuss this at the player meeting, so be present and ask the questions you have to make sure we all understand.

I will be sending out an updated schedule in an email soon, but let me drop it here too: gates open at Kelley at 7. We will be setup for check in ASAP but 7:15 at the latest. There will be a player meeting at 7:45, and we will plan to start at 8am for pool B Saturday. We hope to be beginning Pool A just after 11, obviously it depends on speed of play. So a little adjustment will be needed, but we will not begin till after 11.

I know this is a ridiculous question and realize the can of worms it would open up if the TD said yes, but I want to play this tournament, but would need to be in the B pool. 16 Bday party in the aft ... show more ›

I know this is a ridiculous question and realize the can of worms it would open up if the TD said yes, but I want to play this tournament, but would need to be in the B pool. 16 Bday party in the afternoon on Saturday that I can't miss. Is it possible to request that? Totally understand if it isn't. I would sign up for MA40.

For example with only one junior and one advanced woman signed up, if demand is higher in other divisions, numbers can be moved. Of course if you are a junior or advanced woman and you hope to play, sign up now before we move numbers around.

An error was just discovered in the schedule which reversed the pools and when they would be playing. Sorry for this error, it is now corrected. For simplicity: the pool B which is most of the AM divisions will have the early start on Saturday, and the late start on Sunday. Pool A (Pros and MA1 will play second on Saturday, and first on Sunday.

OK, looking at the division breakdown, I don't understand why the amount of non-restricted division spots is so low.

My son, Isaiah, is rated the same as me (about 915), though his true skill is probably 20 -30 points higher than his rating at this point. His division (intermediate) is already one away from being full before sign-ups start. He would be willing to play advanced too, but can't register for it yet due to ratings caps. Whereas I, because I am an old fart, can still register for the intermediate or advanced but also have age restricted divisions open to me (AM 50 or 40).

Isaiah could play juniors, but doesn't like to because it feels bad beating up on the other kids, it's not sporting. In the other tournaments he's signed up for he plays AM2, and in CVS plays AM1 and cashes already.

He is 12, so obviously no one expects him to be a hole sponsor, but it seems that is the only way to get into intermediate for this tourney (save maybe one person who gets in in the first 15 seconds).

I noticed this this same thing at Otter Open and Masters Cup too. Why should it be so much easier for me to get into a tournament just because I'm old?
