The 2020 Lucky Disc Golf Open presented by Westmark Credit Union
Staff
About this tournament
This will be one of the first post COVID-19 tournaments of the year so it will much different than normal. All players and spectators will be required maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet, and follow PDGA, state, local, and CDC guidelines. Anyone who has COVID-19, is exhibiting common symptoms of COVID-19, is ill, or is in direct contact with someone with COVID-19, must not participate and may be asked to leave the event. Participants should not touch discs, bags, carts, or any other property belonging to another participant. Although we won't be able to enjoy as much social interaction as normal, it will be tons of fun and the competition will be great!
GENERAL INFORMATION
The 2020 Lucky Disc Golf Open will be held at the beautiful Russ Freeman Park and the College of Eastern Idaho in Idaho Falls. It will consist of 4 rounds over two days.
60% of the field will be eliminated after round 3 but they will have the opportunity to participate in a Second Chance Tournament at CEI during round 4. There will also be a "bring your own partner" flex start doubles tournament on Thursday afternoon/evening at Freeman Park.
REGISTRATION
Registration will close on Wednesday night, June 10th, at 11:59 pm. There will be no "morning of" registrations.
Please don't sandbag. Play in the division of your skill level, not based on how you're feeling that day or because you've been in a "slump" lately. Your skill didn't change because you're in a slump or haven't played much since last summer. Please be fair to other players and play in the appropriate division. Let me know if you need help deciding which division to play in.
SCHEDULE & PLAYERS MEETING
See the schedule here on Disc Golf Scene for complete details.
Round 1 on Friday will have tee times and there will be a players meeting with each group before they tee off. Tee times will be posted on the PDGA web site at https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/45009 by Thursday morning at the latest. I will also post on the Facebook group to let you know when they are available on the PDGA web site. Please show up 10 minutes before your tee time. See the schedule here on Disc Golf Scene for complete details.
After round 3, the top 40% of the field will advance to round 4 at Freeman Park. Round 4 is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm, but might may be delayed a few minutes if round 3 takes longer than expected. Hole assignments and the starting time for round 4 will be posted on the PDGA web site at https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/45009 as soon as possible after round 3. Each group will start on their own at the assigned hole and time with a one minute grace period. The same PDGA competition penalties will apply for players who are late.
Everyone who doesn't make the cut is invited to participate in a Second Chance tournament at CEI during round 4. It is also scheduled to start at 1:00 pm but might be delayed a few minutes if round 3 takes longer than expected. Registration will be from 12:10 to 12:40, then a shotgun start at 1:00 pm (unless it has to be delayed a few minutes). It will be singles format and cost $10 per person. Payouts will be similar to the standard tournament payouts with the top 40% being paid out. Open will be paid out in cash and all others in Lucky Bucks.
COURSE LAYOUT
CEI: The normal layout will be used for the entire tournament but there will be some island holes. Those islands will be clearly marked. With the exception of holes 11 & 12, anything not on grass will be out of bounds.
FREEMAN: The baskets at Freeman will be in shorter positions for rounds 1-3, then moved to the long positions for round 4. Baskets 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, and 16 are the baskets that will be moved as long as we can get the baskets into the sleeves.
Markers are on the long pin positions of the holes mentioned above so you can practice the layout for round 4. The markers are 3 feet tall orange stakes with blue flags.
Currently there are two baskets on hole 9. The lower position is the one that will be used for rounds 1-3. The upper position will be used for round 4.
PLAYERS PACKS & PAYOUTS
All players packs and payouts will be done digitally (cash for open and script for amateurs). Players packs for amateurs will be the value of each person’s registration fee in Lucky Bucks (store credit to Lucky Disc Golf), plus a portion of funds raised from the raffle! If all goes well, the first installment (the registration amount) will be emailed before the tournament starts. The second installment and amateur payouts will be emailed within 2 days after the tournament ends.
ACE POT
• If you didn't pay to enter the ace pot when you registered, you can still enter as long as you do it BEFORE you tee off for round 1. The person doing tee times will have an envelope to collect the money. Please let them verify the amount as you deposit it directly into the envelope. DO NOT HAND MONEY TO ANYONE. We don't want any funds going from one hand to another. Please come prepared with exact change.
• If more than one person hits an ace, the ace pot will be divided by number of aces hit.
• If no one hits an ace, we will have a CTP competition on hole 1 at Freeman for the ace pot.
LONG DISTANCE DRIVE COMPETITION
• Lucky Disc Golf will donate $1 in Lucky Bucks for each player by division.
• Every participant will receive one free throw.
• Additional throws may be purchased for $1 each.
