About this tournament
LAYOUT Front 18 & Back 18 Maggie's Run Layout on Legacy, Short to Short on Forest Drive Holes
My name is Mike Correnti. My wife Jessica and I lost our daughter Maggie Sophia Correnti on December 8th 2016. We have since raised enough money to build Maggie's Run at Druid Hill Park, a special layout on the Legacy Course at Druid Hill. We purchased 18 brand new baskets, 36 tee signs for the course, a new kiosk sign and made several other improvements to create a permanent memorial to honor Maggie.
Last year we held the first annual Maggie Sophia Memorial Disc Golf Tournament on Maggie's Run and it was an enormous success. The tournament ran smoothly, it was a ton of fun, had lots of prizes, plenty of free beer at the end of the round, the players packs were awesome, and most importantly we raised over $7,000 for the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Palliative Care Department. We sold out of registration just over a month before the tournament, and had a 84 player field for 27 holes. I cannot wait for this year! It will be a tournament to remember for sure!! Be sure to register early if you want to play.
With that money, the department was able to purchase an infant cooling bed, which allows grieving families the ability to spend much more time with their baby. The bed provides time for families to create precious memories with their babies after they have died. It's time families can never get back. The memories created in that time helps families cope with the difficult short-term and long-term effects of leaving the hospital empty handed. The department was also able to purchase an entire Nikon camera system for the unit to use when the professional photographers at Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep are unavailable. Every nurse who is interested will be trained by a photographer to help the families create concrete, physical memories with their loved ones.
It warms our hearts to know that a simple disc golf tournament can have such a huge impact for countless families. We want to personally thank every person who played and supported us in any way last year. I hope you can make it out again!
This tournament is TROPHY ONLY for all divisions (including MPO & FPO). Everyone in all divisions receives a player's pack and is eligible to win all prizes. With the money we raise at this event, 100% of the proceeds will go to helping other families who experience the tragedy of infant and child loss. This tournament will benefit the Pediatric Palliative Care Department at Johns Hopkins Hospital again. Raising money for this cause is what this tournament is all about.
