First off, thanks so much for signing up for the 11th Annual Oregon Park Ace Race. This is probably the most relaxed and consequently fun event of the year at OP. I always have a great time being involved and this is one of the few tourneys I feel comfortable trying to run and play at the same time. I look forward to seeing everyone! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Pardon me as sometimes I can get a little long winded, but I hoped to put as much info out there in this email as possible so perhaps we don’t have to spend a bunch of time reviewing at the players meeting. My cell number is 404-864-4254, text and email are the best way to reach me. Thanks!
TEAM DISCRAFT CLINIC
We will have a clinic prior to the first round at approximately 9am. The clinic will be presented by Team Discraft members Nathan Skinner and Cody Britain. They will be covering the topics of shot selection, control, and approach/touch shots. You’ll surely be able to use some of these tips during your round but more importantly, you will likely improve your overall disc golf game. We’d like to thank Nathan and Cody for their time!
RAFFLE
Each entry includes a raffle ticket for a Discraft Chainstar Light basket sponsored by the Cobb Disc Golf Club. So, with less than 50 tickets, your chances are favorable of going home with a new basket! We will do the drawing at lunch. You do not need to be present to win. A player who has signed up, paid for their pack, but didn’t make it to the event is still eligible to win. Again, the raffle ticket is included with your entry. We have the silver banded Chainstar Light model.

CHECK-IN
Check-in will begin at 8 am. Once you have checked in, you can move down the table and pick out your player’s pack discs and items. We will have them separated by color and weight (generally a “heavy” stack and a “light” stack). Disc selection is first come, first serve. Note that I do usually set a few lighter discs aside for ladies and juniors in case they prefer the lighter discs.
LAYOUT
Two Rounds of 20+ holes. Holes will generally be between 100 & 200 feet but will vary. Full layout to be determined. Holes will be marked with orange flags and orange painted numbers. Please note, the pink flags are for the shorter modified course for the two junior ladies we have playing.
FORMAT/RULES OF PLAY
Players are required to use the player’s package discs, and only these discs. Only one throw per hole. You take your drive and simply pick up your disc and move to the next hole. For score, it’s either an ace or a metal hit (basket and above), simple as that. The player with the most aces after the second round is declared the winner. In the case of a tie, the number of metal hits (basket and above, pole doesn’t count) is used as the tie breaker. If a tie persists, a closest to the pin will be held to determine the winner (unless we can talk them into an arm-wrestling match). Again, metal hits only count for basket and above!
GROUPING
As has been tradition in the past 10 Ace Races, we will try to form groups of roughly 8 folks. You can either go ahead and contact friends and make your group or team up with players day of. You will play with that group both rounds. Every group will start at hole one. Someone familiar with the temporary layout will be in the first group so the other groups can follow in line. Again, all tee pads will be painted, flagged, and numbered. The rounds/holes play quickly as everyone just takes a drive and picks it up. It’s either an ace/metal hit or its not.
SCORECARDS
Each group will get a score card that you will keep for both rounds. You can leave the score card blank unless you hit metal (basket and above, pole doesn’t count) or an ACE. Mark “m” for metal and “A” for ace in the corresponding hole number. Metal hits will be used for tie breakers if there are ties for the number of aces.
LUNCH
There are plenty of spots to eat with-in 5 minutes. Jersey Mike’s Subs is behind the park, across Dallas Hwy in the Sprouts parking lot. They supported us for the Iron Man tourney, so I thought I’d give them a shout out. Be sure you tell them the Oregon Park disc golf crew suggested them! We will have a cooler of cold waters (enough for about 4 bottles per player) provided by the Cobb Disc Golf Club so feel free to help yourself to them as needed.
SECOND ROUND
Something new this year. To expedite the groups and to perhaps finish sooner than in years past. Groups can start their second round as soon as they like after lunch. If a group finishes early and someone needs to leave, feel free to do so. I’ll direct you on what to do with your score card day of.
THE SMALL PRINT
One thing I want to point out and make clear. Often in past events, a registrant or two doesn’t show up day of and we have folks who want to take their spot. The player’s pack belongs to the person who is a no show. Some folks sign up just to get a player’s pack with no intention to play. I have had folks upset in the past who feel like they should have been able to buy that player’s pack as the person didn’t show up for the event. That’s not the case in this event, there is no wait list for the Oregon Park Ace Race. However, if a registrant contacts me, lets me know they are not playing, and lets me know they don’t want the pack, and I can try to sell their entry/player’s pack and issue a refund. Otherwise, I will contact all no-shows and we can arrange getting your player’s packs to you.
