It's time to close the cauldron on the Gateway Disc Sports 2022 Winter Wizards hosted by the Summit DGA and sponsored by Play It Again Sports - Cuyahoga Falls, OH.

Thank you to everyone that attended on Saturday. I hope you all had a fun time, even if the weather wasn't always ideal. Thank you to everyone that attended on Saturday. I hope you all had a fun time, even if the weather wasn't always ideal. The first round gave us sunshine (and ACES - plural), while the second round was windy and rainy, really putting those putters to the test. That said... all 42 teams played 42 holes of disc golf at Wingfoot Lake State Park with only two Wizard putters that they had never touched before. Wow!

Congratulations to the winning teams. We had tight battles in both divisions and it became a battle of attrition as the weather wizards cranked up the difficulty in Round 2.

I wanted to give each winning player a shout-out... but the winner's list was melted in the rain. They know who they are; nice job nameless ones.

On top of all that, we had TWO Aces on Saturday. TWO. ????

Joe Schank chucked his swirly SSS Wizard 272ft into the basket with one throw on Hole #9 and Nicholas Schultz whipped his black SS Wizard 293ft downhill to smash the chains of Hole #17.
Both players received $40 gift cards to Play It Again Sports - Cuyahoga Falls, OH.

What is the likelihood of a team dropping/no-showing? I've never signed up for this event so I don't know how it usually runs.

As a heads up, the park is in process of cutting down several trees near the Pine Tree pavilion. Please use caution when walking near the pavilion and when warming up in the field.

Also, the blue/wood restroom near parking lot is still winterized. Please use the large restroom located behind/left of the Pine Tree Shelter.

I hope everyone is ready to throw some brand new Gateway Wizard putters at Wingfoot Lake Disc Golf Course this Saturday! We are less than 48 hours away from the first throw at the Gateway Disc Sports 2022 Winter Wizards, hosted by the Summit DGA and sponsored by Play It Again Sports in Cuyahoga Falls.

Attached to this email is the Winter Wizards Player Handbook, along with layouts for temporary Holes A, B & C. There is also an OB sheet. Please review the materials to ensure all of your questions are answered. If not, please head to the tournament page on Disc Golf Scene and leave a comment so I can quickly answer the question.

NOTE: The weather forecast is calling for low 60's and rain/wind on Saturday. I'm hopeful the rain is light and doesn't impact play. That said, because this is an unsanctioned tournament and the goal is fun, we may only play a single round if the weather is uncooperative and play is severely impacted. We'll make our final decision the day of the tournament and will get your input during the Players Meeting before making the decision.

If we do this, we'll play by the same rules, same CTPs, same prize payouts - just only one round to make it happen. At this time, the plan is definitely two rounds, but we'll be monitoring the situation as we approach tournament day.

As of now, the weather wizards are forecasting low 60’s and maybe a little wetness, but the moisture percentage is trending down. Not too bad for mid-March. Wingfoot can be a little soggy in some areas (even if it’s not raining), so come prepared.

Pro tip: Bring extra socks for the 2nd round (even if it’s dry). Your feet will thank you.

We just emptied out the Waitlist, but there is a chance that a few more teams may drop. If you think you may, please do so ASAP so we can work to find new teams. As a reminder, Wednesday (3/16) is the last day to drop and be guaranteed your money back. If you drop after 3/16, and we’re unable to find another team, we’ll make sure you get the over $70 retail value Player’s Pack. If another team can be found for your spot, we’ll refund your entry fee (minus DGS handling fees).

Every player will receive an email on Thursday with full details for the tournament. Along those lines, layout photos of Holes A, B & C have been added to the Pictures (same holes as 2022 Frozen Fingers), along with the OB rules. The layout is now in UDisc, but the baskets will not be placed until Saturday AM.

Starting holes and starting groups will be posted on the UDisc Event Page on Friday. Please note that these are subject to change based on last-minute team substitutions. We will be altering 2nd round groups based on 1st round scores.

Player’s Pack will be available for pickup on Saturday morning, starting at 7:30am (unfortunately, we had to cancel the Friday night pickup). The majority of the pack is pre-bagged to expedite check-in (hat, towel, pin, patch, sticker, 2 minis, and coupons), but players may choose their two putters from the enormous stack of Gateway Wizards. Each player receives a swirly SSS and a black SS putter. Weights range from 172 to 176, with the vast majority at 174/175. Discs will be handed out on a first-come, first-choose basis.

All teams MUST be checked in by 8:15am. We’ll have our players meeting at 8:30am, and hopefully throw our first putter at 9:00am.

Any way my fiance and I can drop down to the casuals?. We didn't realize it was a putter only round until we reread the description yesterday and neither of us throw with putters. If not we will sadly have to withdraw.

We’re less than three weeks away, and I’m hoping a Weather Wizard keeps the temperature warming up for March 19th. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at Wingfoot for this unique tournament. Couple of updates I wanted to share with everyone.

- We’ll be playing the 21-hole course used in the 2022 Frozen Fingers at Wingfoot.

- While I hope I get to see all of you that day, life happens and surely some teams will drop. The Waitlist is currently empty. If you know of someone else who wants to play, have them sign up. It’s likely we’ll get at least 3 or 4 teams (if not more) from the WL added in.

- I’m excited to announce that Play It Again Cuyahoga Falls has zapped itself into a Sponsor for the event. They’ll be adding prizes for players and CTPs, along with a $40 Ace Pot. Anyone who hits an Ace during a tournament round will receive a $40 gift card to Play it Again Sports in Cuyahoga Falls.

***Prize Payouts***

Thanks to Gateways Disc Sports and Play It Again Sports in Cuyahoga Falls, we’ll be rewarding teams with prize payouts for their efforts in the tournaments. The payout structure listed below is based on current divisional percentages. The final payout structure will be determined based on the final divisional structure. Prize discs consist of a variety of discs from Gateway Sports line-up and assorted new discs from Play It Again Sports in Cuyahoga Falls.

That said, teams will assuredly drop as we get closer to the event. So, it’s a balancing act of people, timing and merchandise.

If Gateway has the packs available, I anticipate making it a 21-hole tournament (especially if the Waitlist grows above 10 teams) but not be able to make it official for a few more weeks.

If you register for the Waitlist and are unable to get in, you’ll be refunded your entry fee minus the DGS handling fee.

I am going to ask a silly question. It says ONLY the event putter. Does that mean for drives as well? Or keep our personal putter in the car, and only use the event putter when making putts?
