So here is how this event will be run.
First round is singles stroke play from the white tees(shorter position). Shotgun start, randomly drawn cards. Hopefully live scoring will be implemented.
The top 19 scores will move on to the Survivor round and the rest will play in a consolation round. (If there's a tie for 19th place, those tied for 19th will throw off from hole 1 tee to the tone pole. Closest will move on to the Survivor round. The rest will be in the consolation round and shuffled into the field as top in the consolation round)
If it's a beautiful day, lunch will be delivered. Lunch is optional but strongly suggested because it's so good. You'll be able to order Mr Sippy BBQ day of but you'll have to do it on your own from the course.
If there's inclement weather, we'll be eating at Mr. Sippy BBQ.
(Maybe somebody knows a brewery who could be there or donate some brews? Just putting it out there)
The Survivor round (cash round) starts at hole 1 with the top 19 players from the first round. And this is the round for cash winnings.
It's one giant party card, people and it's awesome. The order of drives is based on the players' rankings after the first round. (Ties will be based on PDGA numbers, lowest to highest/no PDGA number) You will be given a ranking number as to not forget the order. First place and highest ranking drives last every hole, the worst ranked player drives first every hole. After each hole is played, one player is eliminated based on that hole's score. Ideally, the worst score of each hole is eliminated so at the finish of 18 holes there is only 1 left as the winner. Inevitably, there will be ties for worst score on a hole. Those ties are broken by the drive on the next hole. Of those who tied the previous hole, the players who tied as worst score will drive and the furthest from pin is eliminated and those drives count for that hole in play. Don't tie for worst score on a hole and you'll be safe. OB will be in play throughout the event, (Pine Tree Riot OB) and will be explained before each drive on each hole. So, if you're OB but closer to the basket, you're still OB and someone can beat you with a 50ft in bounds shot. OB will be where one went OB, not where it lands. The hole-by-hole elimination continues until there are 2 left on hole 18. If those two last survivors tie hole 18, it will go to a sudden death playoff (holes to be determined) We figure if you make it to the end, we want to see an actual playoff win it and not a CTP to win it.
(If anybody's got a range finder we could use, that'd be great)
The consolation round will be a shotgun start, single stroke play from whites and winners will win prize packages based on their finish in the second round. For example, if 15 people are in the consolation round, prize packages will be spread out among the top finishers of the consolation round. (Prize packages will be determined by how many are in the consolation round and will vary by how many actually sign up)
Consolation round winners do not win cash, they win prize packages from Union Square Disc Golf, so if you want a chance at cash, make it to the Survivor round. The prize packages are gonna be very cool.
This is a bit long-winded, but it's a format not many have experienced. For those who have played our experimental Survivor, they can attest to how fun and intense it is. It's a format where even a top pro can be beat by an amateur. Even if this doesn't explain it enough for you, it's super easy to have it explained as you play. Trust us on this. And don't be reluctant to ask questions, we'll have answers.
Can't wait to see how this plays out, and thank you, everybody for the support.
Registration break down:
$8 greens fees (some will play two full rounds, some will not)
$20 buy-in
$2 throw off at the end of the event (closest, 2nd closest, and 3rd closest)
Optional cash CTP $2 and Ace Pot $1
Ace pot throw off if it's not hit. 2 closest split
Lastly, please be responsible when it comes to the consumption of the alcohol. It's not fun having to play with someone who can barely stand up. Just sayin'
Much love, everybody
