Skills Challenge Doubles
About this tournament
Inspired by the Disc Golf Pro Tour All Star event, specifically the skills competition, we're reviving (and slightly adapting) an old format last played in these parts 20 years ago. It combines standard best shot doubles with driving and putting skills competitions.
One division
Entry breakdown: $10 team greens fee, $5 putting payout, $5 driving payout, $40 overall payout
Players will begin the day with the driving contest. Check in and the driving contest will happen simultaneously to speed up the process. Players are allowed to warm up their arms as they see fit before doing the contest but are asked to hold off on warming up for golf (such as playing holes) until after they've completed their drives.
Golf groupings for round 1 will be determined by the results of the driving contest.
Golf groupings for round 2 will be determined by the golf scores in round 1
Putting order will be the reverse of the overall standings after golf round 2 (last place goes first, and so on)
Driving contest:
Players will each make four throws on Red Dragon DT9 hole 1 (winter tee 1). The two highest in bounds throws for each team will be counted. Throws will earn one point for every full 10 feet of distance gained (e.g. 249 feet = 24 points, 281 feet = 28 points, etc)
Putting contest:
Five stations...
1. 10 feet. Worth 1 point per made putt
2. 20 feet. Worth 2 points per made putt
3. 30 feet. Worth 4 points per made putt
4. 40 feet. Worth 8 points per made putt
5. 50 feet. Worth 16 points per made putt
First team member attempts three putts per station. Second team member only attempts any putts/stations that the first member missed.
Scoring:
Each team's driving and putting points will be deducted from their total golf scores, with the result being the team's overall score for the day. Lowest overall total will be the winner of the day. There will be top 3 payouts for the best driving and putting scores. There will be a top 40% payout for the best overall scores.
