I should say, we chose not to assess 2 penalty throws, as many people suggested. Anyone choosing the drop zone instead of throwing across the water was assessed one (1) penalty throw.

But why assess only a 1 throw penalty on one hole and a 2 throw penalty on the other for not throwing over the water? Also on hole 2 the sheet stated that if you were in the zone and threw OB going to the drop zone was mandatory, yet the spotter were having everyone play that if you crossed the island you played from where it went OB, that was not anywhere on the sheet. It stated two things, if you were in the zone the drop zone was mandatory if not regular OB applied. The whole thing was confusing, why have the same scenario on two different holes with two different results, and why was there no mention of throwing from where you went out, IF you crossed the island?

I was the spotter on the island for the second day. I misunderstood my instructions when I went out. I will say what the rules are intended to address. We didn't want people throwing several shots into the water trying to reach the island, hence the drop zone. However, we also didn't want golfer to take advantage and throw from say the red tee pad over and get to take a drop at the platform.

I just hope you guys realize that all of the criticism isn't to bash anyone or give anyone a bad name. The course is amazing and trust me I know how much work goes into hosting a B-Tier and I know it's all volunteer based, but you also have to understand that players pay good money to play in these events and when so many things are off with one event it is going to get some criticism. Again it wasn't to bash the event or bash anyone, it was to hopefully give you guys some insight on things that have to change to get this event to the caliber that it should be. I mean that the best course in this state, the title event there could be amazing with just a few changes.

We've learned a lot and we will make the needed tweaks to eliminate the things we've been made aware of. I appreciate your criticisms, although iI will admit, it has felt a bit bashy sometimes. Could be the lack of sleep for 6 weeks that made me sensitive, but none the less, Thank you for your insight and participation. For my first time up there.. as expected the course itself was great, but the layout and rules for various holes seemed very "we're running our first tournament" like. It was by far the most confusing layout I've ever seen in some 100 courses I've played. I had heard good things about payouts previously, but honestly in the end it seemed pretty sub par especially if you consider almost nobody throws DGA unless they dig the blowfly. Everyone I know isn't likely to go back unless some changes are made. Tee times or giving an extra block of time for the morning group is a MUST based on what happened this go around.

I understand that i can come off brutally honest sometimes but its not to bash anyone for sure. In the future these are the things that I think would make that event go a little better: First off, tee times. If you want to hose that many players on one course, you just need to do tee times. You can fit nearly the same amount of people and it would also help the layout situation. The layouts, ideally you want to keep the layouts as similar as possible while still being fair to each division. So, with tee times, you can have divisions play the same a layouts, just different tees for those layouts. For example running maybe just the 18 hole layout or 23 hole layout across the board but just changing the tees for each division. As for the water holes. I completely understood why you would want to implement drop zone rules as well as even the zone rule that you had on 2, but for the zone, imo, you should have maybe just painted and orange line that you had to cross, maybe down near the opening to the short basket rather than a specific zone. that way you were still able to have a zone and still able to implement the drop zone for those playing safe and the regular OB for those trying to cross. The zone itself was painted waay wonky and left too much chance as to whether your "safe shot" landed in it. As for the other, standard OB and drop zone strokes wise needs to be played. I have no issue with having folks not throw over the water, but you have to be consistent how you score that and it should always be throw for three from the drop, you should never reward someone for not attempting the shot and which essentially makes attempting and going OB a double penalty when compared to your competitors score who did even attempt it. again just throwing my opinions out there to help, not hurt in anyway. I now understand the player's pack and payout thing though. I realize DGA had more to do with the baskets than prob the deal you were cutting for just player's packs, but in the future I think a lot of the AMs would also appreciate someone other than DGA discs for player's pack and payout. I know that you can please everyone with the player's packs, but trying to at least get more popular molds would go a long way to making them a lot happier as well.

Yes, there is an excel document from the PDGA that helps you figure out the payouts for each division. In this document, it asks for the value of the player's packs (to be subtracted). Our mistake was entering the amount for a single player's pack, instead of the player's pack value multiplied by the number of players in the division. This total is obviously larger. Once we discovered the mistake, we corrected it and adjusted the incorrect values that had been posted. We did not discover our mistake until we had already paid out Pool B. This is why it appears Pool B had a larger payout than Pool A. We made a mistake and corrected it.

The sports chalet for HQ that rents for $150 a day. $5000+ for baskets and tee signs for the expanded course. Maps, tee signs and custom scorecards for each round being played. Live music and more.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that some players from Pool B returned some of their winnings when they learned of our mistake. We don't expect anyone to return money. It was our mistake and we simply corrected things for Pool A. We're sorry for the confusion our mistake (and correction) made. This was our first attempt at running two player pools and we definitely learned some things that we will change, if we decide to run another event with more than one pool.

Kinda sucks but oh well. Can I still camp since it's paid in full. Really wanted to play in this event but my shoulder isn't healed yet. Tested out at Friday night dubs in Massillon and took one throw and dropped from this event.
