About this tournament
Welcome to the Nomadic Flight Open
For 2022 we have a two round PDGA sanctioned C-Tier tournament on a temp course at Jungle Habitat in West Milford. We're looking forward to a fun and competitive day at this unique site with lots of history (see 'About the Venue' below). We'll be playing on 18 portable DGA Mach 5 baskets and an overhead map as well as hole by hole caddie guide will be provided in the weeks leading up to the event.
A few initial notes about the course and park:
-Our permit doesn't allow for modification of the site which means some of the rough off of fairways will be very rough and serve as natural OB.
-Roped OB will be used on a single island hole with designated drop zone. There will also be ropes indicating the mandatory plane for one hole. All other holes will have no OB defined.
-Many holes play along old gravel safari roads or across large overgrown lots (see picture). During play testing premium plastics have fared well but baseline plastics thrown hard have the potential to be chewed up more than usual.
-It's possible there will be some Bikers/Walkers present throughout the day. While less busy than a mixed use park they still have the right of way.
Schedule
Pros and Ams will play two rounds of stroke play with an hour break for lunch in between. See 'Schedule'
About the Venue
Jungle Habitat was a Warner Bros. owned Safari Theme Park open from 1972 to 1976. After years of neglect the site is now administered by Ringwood State Park and home to numerous mountain biking trails and a popular spot for dog walkers. Registration
Registration will start with hole sponsors, then Women's divisions and MPO players rated >=940, followed by all players. After 1 week of registration being open for all players the cap for the Am side will be removed.
Pro payouts
Pro payouts will be handled day of, after all cards have come in and scores are finalized.
Am payouts and Player Packs
Am payouts will be handled by BRIA disc golf, who will be on site vending for the day. All amateurs will also receive a players pack at check in which includes a putter (Dynamic Discs Classic Judge), midrange (Discraft Z Buzzz), fairway driver (choice of Westside VIP Stag or Discraft Z Undertaker), and can topper mini marker (ZING Pico). All of the discs include a custom event stamp by C. Fausch Designs. He was great to work with and has some amazing art so check him out (https://www.cfauschdesigns.com/projects). Packs will be assembled ahead of time to speed up the check in process but feel free to indicate color preferences in the notes during registration and we'll do our best to accommodate. Extra discs will also be available for purchase.
Volunteers
If you'd like to volunteer rather than play we'd be happy to have you. Volunteer duties will include spotting, working the gate at the bottom of the hill, or driving out to pick up lunch. Volunteers will be provided Breakfast, Coffee, and Lunch, as well as an event stamped disc.
Raffle
Each Am participant will get a ticket for the raffle as part of the player's pack, with prizes including a Simon Lizotte signed Tilt, Brodie Smith signed Rocket Roach, and 3 Grip G-series bags.
CTP
There will be an all Am CTP during both rounds on hole 15. The round 1 will winner will receive a Grip G-series bag, the round 2 winner will receive a Bushnell Disc Jockey speaker.
Ace Pot
An optional $5 Ace Pot will be available during registration.
