About this tournament

– Welcome –

Welcome to the tournament registration page for Indy Disc Golf Club’s (IDGC) 36th Annual Ice Bowl, to be held Sunday, Feb. 4th, 2024 at beautiful Brookside Park. Ice Bowl is the final stop on IDGC’s annual charity event series. Last year, we raised $2,785 for the St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) food bank on 30th St. We strongly believe that disc golf is equal parts sport and community, and, with your help this year, we will continue the tradition of being a positive impact within the greater Indianapolis community – over $40K donated to fight food insecurity since 2003!

– History –

This is the second longest continuously run Ice Bowl event in the country behind the founding cities of Columbia & Kansas City, MO. The original Ice Bowl motto was "No Wimps, No Excuses.” When Jerry Suiter & the IDGC held the first few Indy Ice Bowl events beginning in 1989, they heard some excuses from the folks who didn't show up and a LOT of whining from some of the folks who did. So, they revised it: "No Wimps, No Whiners.” Rick Rothstein, founder of the Ice Bowl events, liked it so much that he changed the official Ice Bowl slogan to match what they were saying in Indy.

In 1995, the IDGC began using the event to raise money and collect food for the Dayspring Center, whose mission is to “help homeless families find their way home.” Again, Rothstein liked what the Indy Club was doing so much that, in 1996, fundraising to fight food insecurity became a central component of the Ice Bowl. Since then, millions of dollars have been raised for food banks nationwide thanks to Rothstein & the Ice Bowl mission and to all who participate each year as organizers and players.

– Major Details –

Ice Bowl is a charity-focused, non-sanctioned, non-rated, single-day, one-round, greater-than-18-hole, division-based singles format event. All divisions will play 22 holes of the same layout at the Brookside Park disc golf course, featuring three temporary holes. Tournament headquarters will be Shelter #5, which is the shelter near Hole #1’s tee and Hole #24’s basket. Tee off for the round will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, Feb. 4th, 2024. Mandatory player check-in from 12:00-12:40 PM with a player meeting at 12:45 PM. Hole assignments will be published prior to the round on a physical player board at Tourney HQ. UDisc will be used for scorekeeping.

Parking is available in the lot next to Shelter #5 and also in the lot near the basketball/tennis courts and Holes #5/#7. Water and some snacks will be available at Tourney HQ, and there will be a BBQ meal served after the round to celebrate the completion of this year’s IDGC charity series. Also be sure to bring Frisbees to trade if you want to participate in a disc swap after the round and rehome some neglected plastic. Please note that there will not be a portable restroom provided by Indy Disc Golf Club for this event.

– Fees and Payouts –

• PRO: $25 per player – $15 to payouts + $10 to SVdP food bank
• AM: $20 per player – $10 to payouts + $10 to SVdP food bank

Prize $ to the top ~ 33% of each division. All payouts will be sent to qualifying players using the electronic payment processing platform PayPal. When you register for this event, please use the email associated with your PayPal account.

• DON: $10 – if you can't play in the Ice Bowl this year, please consider registering for the event in the non-participant "Donation" division w/ an entry fee of $10. All proceeds to the SVdP food bank.

– Optional Add-ons –

• Mulligan (x2) charity package: $5 per player – all proceeds to SVdP food bank.

With the Mulligan charity package, players receive two total mulligans: a tee shot Mulligan (for any throw off the tee) and a non-tee shot Mulligan (for any putt/approach). A player may use a Mulligan after any throw attempt to re-throw from that lie without incurring a penalty stroke. When a player elects to use a Mulligan, the previous throw is considered abandoned and replaced by the resulting lie of the re-throw. Scoring a hole-in-one with a Mulligan throw counts on the scorecard but not for the Ace pool.

• 50/50 CTP + Ace side contest package: $5 per player – $3 to 50/50 CTP and $2 to Ace Pool.

If no Ace is hit in standard play, a CTP contest will be used to award the Ace pool.

– Layouts –

The Brookside Park disc golf course is currently in a state of flux due to construction of Pogue’s Run Greenway through the park. All layout information subject to change.

All divisions will play a 22-hole layout with 3 temporary holes in the same areas that will feature the newly designed holes post-Greenway construction. Tee areas and target locations for the 3 temp. holes will be marked on Saturday morning, 2/3/24. Targets will be placed prior to the round start on Sunday, 2/4/24.
