I'm sure this comment will be unpopular amongst most people at the tournament, especially those who were on my card. We had an interesting discussion about rights. I want to explain something, you have the right to do whatever you want as long as it doesn't impede on other people's rights. For example, I have no issue with smoking pot, if you want to smoke that's your right. However, if you walk up to somebody else while smoking and they ask to not be exposed to that you are impeding on their right to breath fresh air. It's not right for someone avoids smoke to be forced to inhale it for the duration of the tournament.
On another note, the purpose of public parks are for people to have a nice place to enjoy with family and friends. Parks are not designated as places to drink and get high. In fact, it is illegal to do so in a public park. Who wants to take their kids to the park and teach them it's okay to smoke, do drugs, and be drunk at 9 a.m.? It is nearly impossible to frequent the park without this being a normal occurance. I will say, I normally play it Condon with my two year old and the people there are typically very respectful, leave me and my son alone and don't smoke around him for the most part. Even when they want to smoke if we are playing together, they give us space. Unfortunately, in my experience these last couple tournaments that is not true about the majority of the disc golf community.
I'll finish out the tournament tomorrow but I've been discouraged to play disc golf again, something I have enjoyed for years. I refuse to expose myself and my family, my 2 year old son plays with me most days, to that toxic environment any longer!
