Couple of notable items yesterday from the Kanza Krush.

Justin Farrell with the only Eagle 3 on the Par 5 Hole 15 at Kanza. He was also one of only 2 players with the Birdie 2 on the Par 3 Hole 16 Long pad at Forest Park. Ryan Heinlein was the other.

Zach Moses shot a 38 at Forest Park second round with the Long Pad on Hole 16. Unofficial rating of 1082. Surely this is a course record with that pad? If this rating holds, it will be the highest rated round at a Maverick DG event. Second highest was Aaron Hieb at 2021 Centennial Chain Crash with a 1071. Third highest was Zacheriath Johnson at 2019 Atchison Aviatrix with a 1067.

14: Short: 379’ Par 3. Long 989, Par 5. Short pad is the Drop Zone for the Long Pad. Long pad is the normal pad. OB sidewalk right, creek left. Mando left of marked tree. If mando is missed, proceed to drop zone (short pad). Drop zone is for the mando only. If OB creek, play from last place inbounds. Creek is defined as painted line if present, mowed grass line if not present.
15: 236’, Par 3. OB sidewalk left, creek right. Creek is defined as painted line if present, mowed grass line if not present.
16: 594’, Par 4. OB sidewalk left, creek right. See drop zone rules below. Both use regular pad. Creek is defined as painted line if present, mowed grass line if not present.
17: Short: 318’, Par 3. Long: 630’, Par 4. Long pad is the regular tee area. Short pad is on the bicycle / walking path to the right of the fairway. It was marked with orange paint. This is the sidewalk on the right towards the industrial buildings, not the walking path that winds through the park. OB sidewalk right and left.
18: 257’, Par 3. New tee pad is in use. The tee pad is technically out of bounds. Need to cross inbounds in order to proceed off of the tee pad. It literally is 6’ to get inbounds, but if you through down the sidewalk and never cross inbounds, you retee from the tee box with penalty. OB sidewalk right and long. Bench and concrete base are OB.
LONG, PAR 59, 6886’, SHORT, PAR 55, 5592’
[In all cases the sidewalk is OB, even when you are teeing off of the sidewalk or the OB side of the sidewalk.. What this means is, if your disc never crosses the vertical plane to make it in bounds, the last place you were in bounds is the tee area. So, you are reteeing as a 3 (or 5, 7, etc.)]
Drop Zone: There is a mando on holes 14 & 16. They will be marked with a drop zone next to them. In both cases you must be to the left of the mando. If you go to the right, proceed to the drop zone for missing the mando with a one stroke penalty. On hole 14, since the creek left is OB, and the tree right is mando, it does make for a fairly narrow gap. Of course you can go over the OB line as long as you come back inbounds.

DIVISIONS / DATES:

Everyone is playing two rounds on Saturday, May 13th on a shotgun start. Round one hole assignments will be posted at link below before Friday afternoon.

Pool A (Long Pads) which includes the Open, Advanced, Advanced 40+ and Advanced 50+ will start at Kanza Park.

Pool B (Short Pads) which includes Intermediate, Recreational and Advanced 60+ will start at Forest Park.


LATE WITHDRAWAL / NO-SHOW

At this point, it is too late to receive a refund. However, if you notify me at 785-764-2229 prior to tee time, you will still receive your player pack for an Amatuer. It’s not required, but I appreciate the heads up. No call, no show forfeits your player pack and entry fee.

To cancel, text or call your name and division, with a comment you are canceling to 785-764-2229.

PARKING -

Kanza Park - while I did not get express permission this year, in the past it has never been a problem to park in the business lots near Hole 18 or the parking lot to the south of the road right before pulling into the park.

Forest Park - there are various spots to park throughout the course. I would recommend parking near the baseball diamonds. Please do not park along any of the fairways as sometimes players like to throw over the out-of-bounds lines.

RESTROOMS

Kanza Park has a portable restroom.

Forest Park has public restrooms that will be open.


CHECK-IN

Check-in is from 8:00 am - 8:45 am at the course you start at near the shelter for Hole 1 at Forest and the (only) shelter at Kanza.. All players, Pro and Am, need to check in. If you don’t check in, I will presume you are a No Call, No Show and you may be scratched from the event. Tee time for round one will be 9:00 AM.


SCORING

We will be using the PDGA digital scoring system. (This is not Udisc). To access it, go to pdga.com/score. Enter in the password, then your last name or PDGA number, and the card will pull up. I will have paper scorecards as a backup. You can also use udisc as a backup. However, to submit the scores, it needs to be done through the PDGA scoring system.

COURSE CONDITIONS

As of Thursday night, both courses were mowed well. Forest Park has some standing water.

AMATEUR PLAYER PACKS

All Amateurs will receive a tournament stamped disc, 1 oz DoubleG Craft jerky and a Maverick towel.

For the Amateur player pack discs, you get your choice of one of the following, all Innova of course.

WATER

While there will be at least one water cooler on each course near tournament central, I fully expect they will go dry at some point. They will be refilled as soon as possible, but you need to be prepared to bring enough water for yourself. The water on the course is a back-up.


IF YOU NEED TO WITHDRAW

If you decide for any reason that you don’t or can’t play the second round, please tell Rob, the Tournament Director or Nathan the Assistant TD. This is crucial as it will affect others on how the second round is organized.

LUNCH BREAK / ROUND 2

We will have an approximately 1 hour lunch break after the last card is completed before starting round 2. You will be moving to the other course for the second round. It is quite possible that Round 2 tee time will not be the same for each pool. You can find your hole assignment and tee time for the second round at the pdga event page:

ACE / CTP FUND

If you paid into the ace fund during registration you are included in this. If you didn’t, you can sign up when you check in if you want to. If neither applies, skip to next section.

Thank you for participating into the Ace Fund. With all Maverick DG events, the Ace fund is paid out as large ticket items and not as cash. This is one of the ways MavDG is ‘maverick’ and it helps to pay for tournament expenses. I determine the payout items so that what is given out is higher than what was paid in so both the winner and the tournament benefits.

Each pool will have their own Ace Funds and the CTPs will be done on the course you finished at. This will help to facilitate the CTP throw off as quickly as possible and if you did not win additional payout (next section) you can leave the event.

PRIZES: (prizes are based on what was paid in for each pool but exceeds 150% of what was paid in)

Please note: If there is a tie for first place in your division, we may start the CTP game before your playoff is done. I realize that this policy has changed in the past and I’m trying to be consistent with it. If you super duper rather play the CTP game than for the First Place Trophy, you can always forfeit the playoff. I would ask you though - why are you playing in a tournament if not to win the prize of First Place?

AWARDS / PAYOUTS

To decrease the amount of congregation we will not have a formal awards ceremony. The awards will be given to the winner after the second round at the course you finish.

PRO PAYOUTS can be either a check picked up the same day, a check mailed to you, or PayPal Goods and Services (winner pays fees) based on what you chose during registration. The Pros will finish at Forest Park where Rob will be directing.

AM PAYOUTS have the choice of the following:


Redeemed at the Olathe store before the end of the year
Online code to be used at my webstore maverickdiscgolf.com. If you choose the webstore, it will charge you shipping and sales tax on what is beyond the payout code.
As a reminder, All Recreational Divisions and all Junior Divisions are player pack and trophy only with no additional payout.

Few notes:
I moved the cutoff for early bird pickup on Friday to 3pm so that I can load up and go to the courses to paint OB lines.

Friday morning I will be sending out an email to all players with all relevant event information.

Plan on having the tall grass for the levee at Forest Park be OB as per the tee signs.
