ABOUT THE FREE STATE FLING’S NAME:

The town of Bloomington is now underwater where Clinton Lake is. Bloomington used to be a stop on the underground railroad for runaway slaves. Frederick Douglas is featured on our discs and trophies this year. You can read about him here: Frederick Douglas

DIVISIONS / DATES:

Everyone is playing two rounds on Saturday, October 8th on a shotgun start. Round one hole assignments will be posted sometime Friday afternoon at the pdga event page. HOWEVER - Please recheck your hole assignments after you check in to make sure they did not change.

LATE WITHDRAWAL / NO-SHOW

At this point, it is too late to receive a refund. However, if you notify me at 785-764-2229 prior to tee time, you will still receive your player pack for an Am.

To cancel, text or call your name and division, with comment you are canceling to 785-764-2229.

PARKING -
Please only park in the main course in-between Holes 18-10-1. All other areas could potentially be along an Out of Bounds line and affect play. The one exception is the road to the boat docks in between 16 & 17.

RESTROOMS

The vault toilets at 13/14/18 will be open. I am not sure about any other restrooms this time of year.

CHECK-IN

Check-in is from 8am - 8:45 am at the parking lot near Hole 1. All players, Pro and Am, need to check in. If you don’t check in, I will presume you are a No Call, No Show and you may be scratched from the event.


SCORING

We will be using the PDGA digital scoring system. (This is not Udisc). To access it, go to pdga.com/score. Enter in the password, then your last name or PDGA number, and the card will pull up. I will have paper scorecards as a backup. You can also use udisc as a backup. However, to submit the scores, it needs to be done through the PDGA scoring system.

COURSE CONDITIONS

Bloomington is mostly cart friendly with the exception of a couple of bridges that have poor transitions and getting to Hole 5’s tee box. There is a shortcut for it though so you don’t have to fully climb the hill with a cart.

AMATEUR PLAYER PACKS

Ams will receive a Discraft tournament stamped disc and your choice of a second disc from various manufacturers (from previous tournaments)

WATER

While there will be water coolers on the course I fully expect they will go dry at some point. They will be refilled as soon as possible, but you need to be prepared to bring enough water for yourself. The water on the course is a back-up.

BONUS PRIZES

ROUND ONE PRIZE: If you have the Hot Round of your whole division (not your card, but the whole division) you will get a Hot Round mini. They are not much, only a mini, but the only way you can get one is by having the Hot Round, so it’s kind of cool.

ROUND TWO PRIZE: If you win your card, you win a prize from the white prize box that is called the Toy Box. Typical items are sticker sheets, can coolers, license plate frames, etc.

LUNCH BREAK / ROUND 2

We will have an approximately 1 hour lunch break after the last card is completed before starting round 2. The Clinton Store will be serving a lunch special:
“Lunch will be 1/3 pound pork burger, chips, pasta salad, cookies your choice of drink bottles of beer ,can pop, bottled water for $12.”
I would ask that you consider this as it is a family-run store and is the only option for lunch that will assure you to get back in time for round 2. If you try to drive to Lawrence you will likely be late for Round 2.

IF YOU NEED TO WITHDRAW

If you decide for any reason that you don’t or can’t play the second round, please tell Rob, the Tournament Director. This is crucial as it will affect others on how the second round is organized.


ACE / CTP FUND

If you paid into the ace fund during registration you are included in this. If you didn’t, you can sign up when you check in if you want to. It costs $5. If neither applies, skip to next section.

Thank you for participating into the Ace Fund. With all Maverick DG events, the Ace fund is paid out as large ticket items and not as cash. This is one of the ways MavDG is ‘maverick’ and it helps to pay for tournament expenses. I determine the payout items so that what is given out is higher than what was paid in so both the winner and the tournament benefits.

PRIZES:
The prizes for the ace pool will be GRIPeq bags. There will be a pink BX3 (retails $229) and a tan CS2 (retails $179)



Please note: If there is a tie for first place in your division, we may start the CTP game before your playoff is done. I realize that this policy has changed in the past and I’m trying to be consistent with it. If you super duper rather play the CTP game than for the First Place Trophy, you can always forfeit the playoff. I would ask you though - why are you playing in a tournament if not to win the prize of First Place?

Instructions on how to update your registration to include the ace fund:

On a computer, or mobile browser, under the Registered Players section, you will see your name as registered. Click EDIT and add the ace fund.


AWARDS / PAYOUTS

To decrease the amount of congregation we will not have a formal awards ceremony. I will give the award as soon as the clear winner is determined after the second round. PRO PAYOUTS can be either a check picked up the same day, a check mailed to you, or PayPal Goods and Services (winner pays fees) based on what you chose during registration. As explained during registration, AM PAYOUTS are redeemable at Maverick Disc Golf in Olathe, KS. If you proactively request one, you can also redeem it at our webstore maverickdiscgolf.com. If you choose the webstore, it will charge you sales tax and shipping.

TROPHIES

There is a First Place trophy for all divisions that pre-registered by Thursday (yesterday).

General course rules - Road is defined as asphalt, not gravel. Any water that is in ditches or gully is casual. Only OB water is the lake itself. On top of any building is OB. This year, tall grass is casual.

This may come in use for some of you:

PDGA RULE 809.01 Abandoned Throw
A player may choose to abandon their most recent throw by declaring their intention to the group. The abandoned throw and one penalty throw are counted in the player's score, and the player plays from the lie from which the abandoned throw was made. Penalty throws incurred by the abandoned throw are disregarded.

Hole 1 - white 318ft par 3 OB: Road and over.
Hole 2 - gold 537ft par 4 OB: Road and over.
Hole 3 - white 324ft par 3 OB: Surrounded by lake water. See abandon throw rules above.
Hole 4 - white 231ft par 3 OB: Surrounded by lake water.
Hole 5 - white 264ft par 3
Hole 6 - blue 480ft par 3 OB: On or over road left. On any building.
Hole 7 - blue 570ft par 4 OB: On or over road left and long.
Hole 8 - blue 507ft par 3 On or over road left.
Hole 9 - white 261ft par 3 On or over road left and right.

Hole 15 - white 585 par 4 OB: On or over road left.
Hole 16 - gold 648 ft par 4 OB: On or over road left or long.
Hole 17 - blue 582 ft par 4 OB: On or over road left.
Hole 18 - blue 315ft par 3 On any asphalt is OB. If you are on the bridge, play it from the bridge. If you are under the bridge, play it where it lies. All water is casual.

The OB rules as written states that only asphalt is OB with the exception of Hole 13. The road 'long' that is the access road to the lake that is in between Holes 17 & 18 is gravel only. Therefore, as the rules are written, that road is casual.

If you took an OB stroke on that hole, come see Rob after round 1 but before round 2.

For Round 2, I will be rewriting the rule on Hole 17 to say that the gravel road long is OB. I do not have spray paint to paint an actual line. If it's touching grass, of which that grass is touching the fairway, than you're safe. If its surrounded by gravel, or touching grass that is not touching the fairway (i.e. a random 'tuff' of grass in the road) you're OB. That is for ROUND 2 ONLY.

This year we won't be playing the tall grass OB. However, if you loose your disc, lost disc rules state you have to go back to your previous lie with a stroke penalty. Both throws from that lie count....so don't go into the tall grass.
