Flickin' For Fido: Charity Doubles
About this tournament
This is the second installation of the Flickin' For Fido charity tournament for the Humane Society of Lebanon County. Last year's event raised well over $1000, and I definitely am looking at crushing that mark this year. Last year's event was held at Jackson Rec Park; this year we are heading to the ever beloved South Hills course in Lebanon and turning it into a doubles event.
Cost of the event is $80 per team and only 3 divisions will be offered: MA1 (Advanced), MA2 (Intermediate), and MA3 (Recreational). Each player from each team will receive credit to the LVDG Flymart to pick a disc of choice and may also pick a mini or water bottle to round out their player's pack. $30 of every team's entry fees will be donated directly to the Humane Society of Lebanon County to help them with funding as they struggle through the pandemic. Because of this donation, there will be no placement payouts post-tourney; however, first through third place in every division will receive a special trophy. Since this is a PDGA sanctioned event, players have a great opportunity to grab points to try to earn their invitation to AM Worlds next year in Peoria, Illinois.
The first round will play a standard doubles format. Each player from each team takes 1 shot from each lie until someone holes out. The second round will implement the infamous Dutch Doubles format. Each player from each team must decide ahead of the round which holes they want to throw drives from: one player picks odds and the other picks evens. After the drive, players alternate shots until a player holes out. In this format, no team will ever throw 2 shots from the same lie, except if a lost disc penalty is taken.
A raffle will be held after both round are completed. I ask that anyone playing in the tournament brings at least one disc they never use to add to the raffle prizes. New or used it doesn't matter. Raffle tickets will cost $2 each and each winner will be able to pick their prize until there are no prizes left. I will also be taking monetary donations throughout the day if you or someone you know would like to contribute to the HSLC.
As an added bonus, great play from the players will earn more donations for the HSLC. For any eagle carded, LVDG will donate $10. Any aces carded will have LVDG donate $50 to the cause.
