Crossover Match Play Bracket Challenge 2024
About this tournament
It's time to do our first Crossover Match Play Bracket Challenge 2024.
We have done a few the past 2 years for the Crossover Crew, and it went well, so why not try to expand it.
Ok, first things first. Brackets play can be fun. Brackets can also be frustrating and end up losing steam. If you can't commit to playing ONE match every week, then it is probably best to sit this one out. Any matches that are dormant for 2 weeks, both players will be eliminated (unless someone concedes) and the player waiting will receive a bye. No one wants that to happen. So please only sign up if you have the availability and interest to commit to playing.
Format - Double Elimination Match Play. Each match should be played at a course agreed upon by both players. Please find a compromise for the course (location and skill level). For those who aren't familiar with Match Play. It is different than Stroke Play (total score). Each hole played is either tied/halved or won by a player. For instance, on hole 1, Player A cards a 2 and Player B cards a 3. Player A is now "1 up". This continues until there is a winner. The great thing with Match Play is that if you have a bad hole or two, you aren't doomed, because your total score doesn't matter.
Matches have to be played in the following counties of the Tristate/Crossover area:
Ohio - Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, Warren
KY - Boone, Kenton
IN - Dearborn, Franklin
We will seed players based on PDGA ratings. Any players who are tied with the same rating, the nod will go to the player with the longest established PDGA # as the tie breaker. If I player does not have a rating, they will be assigned a 875 unless we can figure out a fair rating based off of a tournament or league round/rounds.
For this bracket challenge, we are going to keep it simple. It is $10 to play ($5 to payouts/$5 to Crossover). There are only 5 divisions. If you are classified as "pro", you sign up in Open. If you are classified as an "amateur", you sign up for AM. We do have division is just for Female players. We've never had any sign up, but if there is enough, and we need to split the division based on skill level, we can do that. We are going to offer a Masters division for both Open and AMs. If you are over 50 years old and would prefer to play in it, you may do so. You can only play in one bracket.
We will pay out approximately the top 25%, and give out tags for these players. It depends on number of players. That could be the Final Four, or Elite 8. Again, based on numbers. More info will be posted when the field is set.
Again, bracket challenges can be fun, and also frustrating. Please make sure you can commit to roughly one match per week if you continue to advance. Registration will close on 6/23 at 9p so I can get the brackets put together.
Good luck and keep throwing forward!
