EVENT UPDATE 5/8/23:
After much thought and deliberation, we have decided to postpone this weekend’s Match Play Championship. We solicited a lot of feedback about the event and the most common thing we learned was that we simply picked a bad weekend for the event in terms of player availability.
If this was a stroke play event, we would have moved forward even with the low numbers. However with the head to head nature of match play and current registration numbers, it would be very difficult to provide a balanced and fair experience for all players involved. Believe us when we say we looked at various options, but anything that seemed fair would result in a slight change in format and turn into a very long day for all involved.
We don’t currently have a future date set and are actually considering making it more or a rolling event over a period time (like a match every 2-3 weeks) rather than just a single day. If you have any thoughts or ideas about the event, we would love to hear it.

Introducing the 2023 Connecticut Match Play Championship!
This first ever Connecticut Match Play Championship will see 32 Pros and 32 Amateurs battle for the title of Match Play Champion. Whether you are a fan of match play or simply want a different tournament format, this event is for you.
This is an unsanctioned event that will also serve as a fundraiser for the 2023 Greater Hartford Disc Golf Open.
EVENT FEES:
Pro - $60 per player (limited to a field of 32) broken down as follows:
$10 to the GHDGO
$50 to the Payout
Amateur - $45 per player (limited to a field of 32) broken down as follows:
$10 to the GHDGO
$20 to the player pack
$15 to the Payout
Due to the format of this event, we are limiting the field size to 32 Pros and 32 Amateurs for this first rendition. If successful, we have plans to expand the offering to 128 players over 2 days in 2024.
PLAYER PACK:
All amateur players will receive a player pack. Exact player pack will be announced at a later date.
FORMAT:
All players will play two 18 hole rounds with a lunch break in the middle. Each round will consist of 2 independent 9 hole matches against one individual player on your card. This means all players will play a total of four 9 hole matches.
Players will be seeded by the TD’s based on PDGA rating, PDGA points, and historical performance. Player seedings and Round 1 matchups will be announced on Wednesday May 10th.
During round 1, players will be matched up based on seed (1vs32, 2vs31, etc) for their first matchup following the bracket. After the first 9 hole match, the 2 winning players on the card will face off for the second 9 hole match. The 2 remaining players will also face off.
During lunch, cards will be reorganized based on everyone’s standing on the bracket (essentially a compass bracket). The same format will be followed during round 2. Any player that wins both of their Round 2 matchups will receive a payout.
At the end of Round 2, the two remaining Pros and two remaining Amateurs will go out as one card for the championship round. All other players are encouraged to follow the card.
TIEBREAKERS:
There will be a designated CTP hole on each 9 hole layout. Should a tie occur in a 9 hole match, the player whole was determined as the winner of the CTP hole will advance. The exception is the Championship Round. Should a tie occur then, sudden death play will begin on hole 1
LAYOUTS:
Round 1 - Pros will play only the back 9 (2x), Amateurs will play the front 9 (2x)
Round 2 - Pros will play only the front 9 (2x), Amateurs will play the back 9 (2x)
Championship Round - OG 9 layout (Holes 1-4, 7, 10-13)
BRACKET:
The full event bracket can be found at https://tinyurl.com/CTMatchPlayBracket
Once seeded, it will be updated to reflect the seedings.
PARKING:
Please park in the main lot.
TOURNAMENT CENTRAL:
Tournament central for this event will be located near the entrance to the path to hole 1.
CHECK IN:
Check in will begin at 8:00 AM. Anyone not checked in by 8:45 AM will be considered a NO SHOW.
PLAYERS MEETING:
There will be a players meeting at 9:00 prior to the start of Round 1. Due to the differences in format compared to a traditional stroke play event, all players are required to attend the player meeting.
AWARDS/PRIZES:
There will be a brief awards ceremony following the conclusion of the Championship Round. Payouts will be awarded as follows:

Champion - $500
Runner Up - $300

I'd keep it a 1 day event if it is moved to a future date. I think this would be a great event for a Sunday in October. If it becomes a multi-day rolling event it could up more scheduling conflicts
