Morgan Fam Heart Warrior Ace Race
About this tournament
Hello everyone! We are hosting this Fundraiser for Tommy & Brooke Morgan to help with medical costs and to generally help them out in a difficult time. Details below!!
Words from Tommy!!For those that I havent met in my disc golf travels or elsewhere, here's a quick bit about our little family and situation.
Our son, Thomas, was born October 21st, 2023 at McLaren Port Huron, we were transferred to Detroit Childrens on October 28th and we've been there since. While initially we thought he was improving, things took a turn and He ended up needing ECMO support, while on ECMO, he suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke causing him to have to be removed from the ecmo circuit, initially they tried to support him strictly with medication but by that point the damage to his heart and ultimately all of the other end organs had been done. He fought on his own roughly 2 weeks before having open heart surgery in early December to have two cannulas placed for initially a centrimag device (essentially an artificial heart), that would be transitioned to a berlin heart once he met certain size criteria, that would act as a "bridge" to heart transplant. Ultimately we did make it onto the list, but have since had to pause his listing status meaning they won't accept an organ offer due to concerns about, in our case, decreased kidney function, and his bodys ability to handle the medication load post transplant. Thinking now he'll probably need a heart and kidney transplant ideally from the same donor unless his native kidney function pretty drastically improves. It's not only a much riskier procedure, there's only a small handful of centers that do the double transplant in adults and even less in Pediatric patients. Thomas has lots of growing to do before that is even an option offered to us, so in the meantime we basically are living at the Hospital with no real feasible timeline for coming home insight. Thomas has proven over and over to us over the last 8 months he has an incredibly strong will to live, fighting for his literal life, and overcoming every challenge he's been given the task of handling, with many staff/surgeons telling us it's a miracle he's not only alive but growing!
We love our "Bubs" an unfathomable amount, I imagine like any parent loves their own child, and we're incredibly blessed and thankful to spend every chance outside of work we can with him, and hopefully this event will help us to continue doing that. Lucas and Christina have gone so far above and beyond helping us by coming up with this idea, organizing the event, and handling things behind the scenes out of the goodness and kindness of their hearts to see it through. Really emphasizing the FAM part of Disc FAM and I couldn't be more thankful for the support from them and everyone that decides to come out, chase some chains, and hopefully a great time!
This will be a flex start allowing everyone to pass through play when you want with who you want.
50% of proceeds will go to payouts and 50% of proceeds will go to the family.
