Hello everyone and thank you for signing up for the 2024 Solitude Open - Presented by MVP Disc Sports. We're very excited to have you all up at the beautiful Solitude resort for this extremely unique tournament. Solitude has been hosting this event since 2001 and it's an honor to be in the position to be running this tournament. I want to give a big shoutout to our title sponsor for the 3rd year in a row MVP Disc Sports, MVP has continued to support both myself and Brian Usher in making Solitude a great event over the last decade. MVP does so much behind the scenes for Utah disc golf it's hard to give them the recognition they deserve so thank you MVP. I also want to thank the Mountain Air Team who has helped make this event possible, Jason Ramirez, Mandie Chamberlain, Kevin Montgomery, Mikey Wilkinson, David Aun, and Dylan Schimmel. This would be extremely difficult to accomplish without a solid team so thank you all for being there to help make these events possible.
Preparation
The Solitude Open is by design, a grueling tournament. Please come prepared with bug spray, sun screen, proper footwear, water, snacks, and anything else that will help you hike around the mountain for 4 hours on a hot summer day. Water will also be provided on hole 9 and at tournament central. Snacks can also be purchased at the Solitude store in the village.
Arrival
Please park in the lower parking lot near the Moonbeam chairlift. Tournament central will be located at the Last Chance lodge near the Apex chairlift (near hole 18). Please check in at tournament central, AMs and Pros will be receiving player's packs at check in, yes you heard me right. There will be baskets setup in the open field area to practice putt as well as a net to warm up at.
Solitude Specific Rules
The Solitude Open brings some specific rules into play, primarily lost disc/abandoned shot drop zones. Please refer to PDGA rule 809.01 for how to play abandoned shots. Please refer to PDGA rule 805.03 for how to play lost discs. We also have a non PDGA rule that is in effect, you MUST turn around and spot for the card behind you on all long downhill shots (IE 2,3,6, and 18) this is a courtesy that we all perform for each other at this tournament to help it run smoothly, please don't be the inconsiderate person who avoids this rule. All ponds and streams on this course are OB, standing puddles of water are casual.
A Pool & B Pool
This is the first year we have separated the tournament by different pools of players, we hope that this helps provide more accurate ratings as well as provide a better experience for all players. Please refer to the attached caddie book for all questions you may have as to what layout you are playing (most of the changes are different pars, with the exception of hole A having different tee pads).
Round 1
Per PDGA rule 1.04 player's must check in at hole 1 five minutes prior to their tee time. This helps give the asst. TD time to go over a quick player's meeting before teeing you off.
Side Games
Our ace pot is over $300 currently and the buy in is only $5. CTP's are going to be epic for this event, huge packages including Solitude ski passes and merch from all our sponsors. Divisional CTPs will be worth $200+, hole 18 will also have 2 CTPs going (A pool 1st shot, B pool 2nd shot) worth over $500!! All of the CTPs for this event are buy in only, so don't miss out! They will be going Friday and Saturday with prizes available Sunday. We will also have our putting championship going on at our practice baskets, prizes for this will be separated by A pool and B pool and worth over $200!! We will also have our TechDisc available for players to throw all weekend at tournament central.
