About this tournament
– Welcome –
The resurrection of local match play: the Indy Match Play Championships is a new Indy Disc Golf Club (IDGC) membership benefit event similar to Best of City. Club members will now have two chances each year to be called primus inter pares, or first among their peers: match play in the Spring, and stroke play in the Fall. This event is the spiritual successor to the Indy match play championships that were all-day battles fought across the Mohawk Compound. Inspiration also taken from the enormous popularity of the Hoosier Club Challenge team match play event created by Peru’s Darroll Dickerson and continued by Fort’s Brian Miller, and from the Rushville Saucer Tossers disc golf club, who run a well-regarded match play series each year for their members.
– Major Details –
The Indy Match Play Championships is a multi-week, bracket-style, double elimination match play series that begins in mid-March, plays across multiple courses, and culminates in the crowning of a Club champion. In match play format, who you play can be just as important as how you play: instead of competing within a field to be dealt fewer total strokes by a course, winning players advance to the next stage by beating their opponent’s score on more holes than they lose. Initial bracket seeding is drawn randomly. Players have one week to schedule and settle their matchups before the next begins. Rounds run Monday to Sunday.
– Fees and Rewards –
You must be a 2024 Indy Disc Golf Club member to participate in this event. Annual Club memberships are $11 and can be purchased at: https://www.indydiscgolf.com/membership Not sure if you are a 2024 member yet? Check our member list at: https://www.indydiscgolf.com/memberlist
The entry fee is nominal at $5 and is winner-take-all. In addition to the prize purse, winners will also receive a framed copy of the bracket to commemorate their victory. All participants are guaranteed to play at least two rounds of 18-hole match play format disc golf against two different opponents on two different courses. This event aims to inspire more interaction between Club members that may not normally play together and more discussion regarding the unique qualities of each of the area courses, or battlegrounds, used in the event.
– Layouts and Logistics –
Each week will be contested at a different course (some courses may be used twice). The layout will be provided in advance and all match play contestants will play the same course and layout each week. Contestants have one week to schedule & play their match ups with one another, and weeks run Monday to Sunday. Results and ensuing match ups will be published Sunday night/Monday morning each week during the series. UDisc will be used for scorekeeping, and each week will have a UDisc event set up in advance with the appropriate layout for players to use during their match ups. The winning player of each match must report the results to the Tournament Director no later than 8:00 PM Sunday night so that the bracket can be correctly updated. If players fail to complete or report their match ups during the given time period, they will be disqualified from the series.
