2021 Winter Wizards Event at Sims Park
About this tournament
This will be a "Bring Your Own Partner" doubles tournament with players only using the 2 Wizards provided in their player pack. Player's pack will include 2 2021 Winter Wizard discs, a stash mini set, a towel, a Wizards hat pin, a full color neck gaiter, and a discount coupon for the Gateway online store, which is a $70 retail value for $40!!! Prizes will also be provided by Gateway, and there will be a few extra chances at some Gateway prizes with CTPs and Card Winners for Round 2.
With such a great turnout for this event, we will now be playing 2 rounds of 20 holes, with both rounds being played as "Best Shot" Doubles format. A 30-40 minute break will be given between rounds to grab some quick lunch or take a break to warm up.
Seeing as the discs are putters, shortened holes will be used where necessary to increase the birdie and ace chances. The layout will be flagged the day of the event and shortened hole tee locations are listed below.
Hole 1: Hole 2 Tee to Hole 1 basket
Hole 2: Tee on beach (flagged)
Hole 3: Normal Tee
Hole 4: Normal Tee
Hole 5: Normal Tee
Hole 6: Normal Tee
Hole 7: Normal Tee (unless it is covered with mud / water...then it will be moved in front of the normal tee)
Hole 8: Normal Tee
Hole 9: Tee up fairway on left (flagged)
Hole 10: Tee up fairway near trees (flagged)
Hole 11: Normal Tee
Hole 12: Tee on gravel path just behind Hole 11 tee (flagged)
Hole 13: Tee up fairway on the right (flagged)
Hole 14: Tee up fairway near bushes (flagged)
Hole 15: Tee up fairway past first set of trees (flagged)
Hole 16: Tee up fairway (flagged)
Hole 17: Tee up fairway near trees (flagged)
Hole A: Hole 18 Tee to Hole A basket
Hole B; Tee near picnic table (flagged)
Hole 18: Tee up fairway on right (flagged)
These alternate tees are tentative and may be changed based on the conditions of the course that day. Layout sheets will be provided to all cards to ensure that there is no confusion about the tee positions for each hole.
There will also be a $2 ace fund for the event that will need to be paid before Round 1 begins to partake. If an ace is hit during the first round, we may do another one for Round 2, based on interest. If no ace is hit during either round, a Ring of Fire will be done to decide the winner of the ace fund pot.
We have two divisions, with 11 teams in Advanced and 25 in Intermediate. There is still room for four more teams, so this may change before the event. Prizes will go to the top 1/3 of each field and prizes for each division are below:
Advanced:
1st Place: Winter Wizards Trophy Disc and 3 discs (per player)
2nd Place: 2 discs (per player)
3rd Place: 2 disc (per player)
4th Place: 1 disc (per player)
Intermediate:
1st Place: Winter Wizards Trophy Disc and 3 discs (per player)
2nd Place: 2 discs (per player)
3rd Place: 2 discs (per player)
4th Place: 2 discs (per player)
5th Place: 2 discs (per player)
6th Place: 1 disc (per player)
7th Place: 1 disc (per player)
8th Place: 1 disc (per player)
9th Place: 1 disc (per player)
Discs and other prizes will be provided by Gateway. Prizes will be chosen by order of the scores for each time. For example, 1st place in Advanced theoretically will have the top score and choose first. Next will be 1st place in Intermediate. Then the remainder of the prizes will be chosen based on the best scores through the remainder of the payouts from 2nd place on down. The only tie that will be broken will be ties for 1st place, and will be decided upon by CTP with a shot to be chosen that day if necessary. All other ties will be broken as follows:
1. Most Aces
2. Most Birdies
3: Least Bogeys (includes double, triple, etc.) bogeys
If this method doesn't separate teams from ties, they will get to choose prize discs at the same time.
Thanks for the interest and support in the event and be ready to run some chains on 3/20/21!!!
