I hope everyone is ready to set new "Tournament play" records on the new Kensington course.
If anyone wants to check in on Friday to get their players package, we are finalizing the details on this and plan be ready to go around noon.
We will also have an optional Ace Pool and 50/50 if you would like to enter that as well.
The Ace Pool and 50/50 will be divided proportionally between the pools.
I promise to get it right this year for those that remember my snafu last year, lol!

The Black Locust Disc Golf Course now features two 18-Hole disc golf courses. Plans are in the works to replace all of the baskets with the new Discraft Chainstar Pros. The South Course (with the new holes) will feature Green Powder Coated Discraft Chainstar Pros while the North Course (The Original course post the Tunnel) will feature Blue powder coated Discraft Chainstar Pros. Unfortunately, these will not be installed until after the 2018 Great Lakes Open. This means that there is currently a ... more

So will these be the same model as the toboggan baskets?

John Minicuci   July 5, 2018 at 1:23am

The Toboggan Randy has currently has Chainstar Pros. Black Locust will eventually have them too. Currently Black Locust has a mix, 31 Chainstar's and 5 Mach 3s.

Jarret, did you happen to grab one? I would be surprised if they printed scorecards resembling the tournament layout meaning no short tees on the newsest 9 holes.

brad chartier   July 1, 2018 at 11:09am

I grabbed a couple yesterday. The cards show both long and short tee pads on all the holes.

John Minicuci   July 1, 2018 at 1:31pm

Thank you Brad. As I suspected, if anyone wants to play the tournament layout, please use the scorecards from the Google link above not the ones from Kensington.

Now that there has been a rash of registered people, the fields are shaping up to look like this: Pool A will be AM1 (20 players), AM2 (36 players), AM40+ (8 players), and AM50+ (8 players = 72 players. Pool B will be AM3 (51), AM60+ (1), FA1 (2), and FA3(4) = 58. There are 14 spots left in Pool B. Pool A will play the new 18 holes and Pool B will play the original 18 holes. Regardless of moving either of the Masters to Pool B to allow more in depending on who signs up waitlist or other, the AM1 and AM2 divisions will be playing the new 18 holes twice.

You almost had to call the whabulance.

Jay B   June 14, 2018 at 5:56pm

Would you be the one driving it? We might still need one on call

Torpedoes Ready   June 16, 2018 at 2:32am

They probably won't answer if they recognize the number, because it's been called so much?

The 2018 Great Lakes Open is a PDGA A Tier event. This years' event will not be Trophy Only. We are hoping to have the Awards ceremony across the parking lot from the Toboggan course. We are hoping that players who finish in cashing spots can redeem their prizes at the store that will be set up by the Toboggan course. Details are still be worked out so stay tuned ...

When I told the guy running the check in he was telling people that it wasnt an option online. So I'm positive a bunch of people have been double charged. I'm thankful you will return the money to make it right but this may have happened to a lot of people.

John Minicuci   July 7, 2018 at 4:25am

Hi Phil, a complete list of what everyone paid online will be provided to the staff at registration tomorrow morning, my apologies. I have you marked down as paying $5 online for the Ace Pool but not for the 50/50. If you paid the $10, we will give you the $5 back. See you in the morning and thank you for letting us know.

Phil Turner   July 7, 2018 at 11:05pm

Thx John.

Also curious

John Minicuci   July 7, 2018 at 4:33am

My only recommendation is to show up in the moring at the Toboggan. If someone is a no show, you could get in. If you do not show, you have no chance whatsoever.

Black Locust courses for DGLO: Unless there are competent and energetic spotters on holes #1 for both long course we can expect huge backups to develop from multiple lost discs. I would guess hour long backups on each hole. The drives are difficult and the roughs are thick. There are numerous other places of difficulty but both #1's are the worst.

I think you meant enforced!

John Minicuci   July 4, 2018 at 4:50pm

^!!! This should be a norm. I watched a group of 2 on the Toboggan spot for each other. They called it Shamed Spotting. In the winter, we call it Shovel of Shame. The last one who tee's off has to shovel the tee pads, lol. What may take an extra minute of walking saves a lot of extra time looking and saves lost disc penalty shots.

Mike Michalak   July 4, 2018 at 4:54pm

The bottom 2 players on the card should spot for the top 2 throwers on the card for those difficult holes. I really do not get it when groups throw on a difficult hole without spotting for each other. I myself will not throw on a hole until I get fellow players to go spot for not only is a lost disc ... more
