About this tournament

The 15th Annual Four States Open Players’ Meeting

The players meeting will be virtual this year. There will not be a players meeting in person before the 1st round.

Welcome to the 15th Annual Four States Open Sponsored by Dynamic Discs! As always, we’d like to start off by thanking our sponsors: First and foremost, we'd like to thank our title sponsor, Dynamic Discs. DD really stepped up this year providing items for the Am players packs as well as other prizes.

We'd also like to thank our other sponsors: Joplin Convention & Visitors Bureau, Full Turn Discs, Disc Golf Monkey, Bicycle Specialists, Blue Moon, Community Bank & Trust, Flat Branch Home Loans, Joplin Parks & Recreation, Lundy Homes, Southwest Missouri Bank, The Real Estate Girlz, Towneplace Suites. Without them this tournament would not be possible.

Check in will begin on Friday starting at 10:00 at McClelland Park and will be available until dark. If you are not able to check in on Friday you can still check in at your 1st round course on Saturday. Players pack items will be available to late check ins at the McClelland courses. There will be other events going on Friday including a doubles tournament and mini golf. There is $500 in added cash for the Friday events. The doubles layout that will be played will be the Lion/Eagle Crossover layout. The Pro division will play from the Blue tees and all other divisions will play from the Red tees.

The PDGA is requiring a signed waiver stating we acknowledge the increased risk of COVID-19 by playing in this tournament. Since you all signed up online, you've already signed that waiver. Speaking of COVID-19, please maintain social distancing at all times before, during, and after the tournament. There will be water stations on the course, and hand sanitizer at each water station. Please use the sanitizer before touching the water jugs, and do not open the lids. Caddies and card spectators are allowed. They must maintain social distancing at all times and masks are highly recommended for anyone not playing the event and for players while not throwing.

Also due to COVID-19, there will NOT be a players party like we have done previously. There will however still be a Disc Golf Monkey raffle supporting E.D.G.E. that will be done virtually on Saturday evening. Tickets will be for sale Friday at McClelland and Saturday at all courses. We will go Facebook Live and draw tickets for prizes on Saturday night. If you have a ticket number that was drawn, it will be up to you to turn in your winning number at McClelland on Sunday and receive your prize.

Scores for the tournament need to be kept on the PDGA website. Player course and hole assignments will be posted by the time registration closes ‪Friday night‬ at https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/44481. The link to online scoring is https://pdga.com/score/. The access code is 4SO. This is for all 3 rounds. Please have one person only record the card scores to ‪pdga.com‬. Staff will receive them at tournament central. If there are OB rules for a hole they will show on the PDGA scoring site.

When playing the new holes at McClelland Park, please be sure to use the map in your book or Udisc to make sure you are playing the right hole. There are signs directing you to the next hole on most holes. Also remember after hole 9 for both Lion and Eagle courses you will walk across the street. Please watch for oncoming traffic when crossing as there are not crosswalk signs posted yet to alert traffic.

Pool A - for the Crossover layout that you will play two rounds of on Saturday, please make sure you know what tees you are throwing from. MPO will be throwing from the Blue tees in this layout and all other divisions in Pool A will be throwing from the Red tees in this layout. Some of the holes share the same tee for Blues and Reds while other holes have their own teepads. There is a map in the player's book as well as the map has been posted online. Ask a TD if you have any questions.

Neosho Course - Remember the holes being played are a combination of both courses now but is the original layout before the course was redesigned. There is a map in your player's book and there will be arrows on the ground at each basket pointing you to the next tee pad. On every tee sign there is information telling you which original hole number you are playing so be sure to pay attention to that and ask the TD if you have any questions.

All players will play on Sunday at McClelland Park on either the Lion or Eagle course. Everyone will play Sunday on tee times (which will be posted Saturday after the 2nd round). If you are in a brush pile in the woods across the street, you may take casual relief behind the brush pile directly on the line of play. Many piles will be marked with a few flags around the pile but if a player feels they are in a pile that isn’t marked, please as a group, allow the casual relief. Once all players in a division have finished their round, payouts will occur as soon as possible so you do not have to wait until the tournament is over. Am payout will be provided by the Disc Golf Monkey in his trailer. The MA1 winner will receive a Monkey Trap basket and the MA2 winner will receive a Dynamic Discs Recruit basket.

As some of you know, the McClelland Park redesign is still not complete but is very much playable. The Joplin Parks & Rec Department deserve a standing round of applause for the big machinery they have allocated to this redesign and doing the lion's share of heavy lifting. Between the thousands of man hours that have been put into this redesign by the city workers and club volunteers we have gotten the course to where it is today. Knowing the course is not complete, we'd love to hear your feedback on the course good, bad or ugly.

If you stayed in a hotel within the Joplin city limits, you can turn in a copy of your receipt (or email us) and you will receive a $10 voucher for every night you stay which is good for Joplin Disc Golf Club merchandise only. All players pack items will be for sale after the tournament along with other JDGC merchandise.

If there is any question about any throws or lies, try to make a group decision. If no decision can be made, play a provisional. When possible, consult with the course TD to determine the correct answer.
