About this tournament
1 round of play
Welcome to the King of the Putt! This is an afternoon event where you and your partner will compete to see which team has the best putters in the area.
Time and Location: This event will be held at Ritual Brewery in Redlands, Ca. on Sunday, March 12. Check-in and warm-up will start at noon. First matches will begin at 12:30. The schedule will go until the early evening. The entry is $30 per team. If we fill up, there will be a waitlist started. Waitlist will be $5. If you are on the waitlist and do not get into the event, we will refund you the waitlist $5.
Prizes:
First place: $200
Second place: $100
Third Place: $60
Fourth place: $40
What you need: This is a bring your own partner event. When you register, please include your team name. Each player will need at least 2 putters.
The format: Teams will be split into brackets of 4 at least 4 teams each. Teams will play 3 prelim games against the teams in their bracket.
Matches will be played between two teams. The teams will flip a coin (or disc) to decide who goes first. The players from each team alternate throwing two putts at a time (example: player 1 on team A would throw two putts, then player 1 on team B would go, then player 2 on team A, then player 2 on team B). Teams will score points based on how many putts they make. Each team keeps the points they make each round (not like corn hole rules). First team to make it to 21 or more at the end of a round wins the match. If both teams are over 21, then the team with the higher score wins.
Scoring: There will be one basket for teams to shoot on. There will be two spots that a player can elect to putt from. The front spot (22-23 ft) will be worth 1 point. The back spot (32-33 ft) will be worth 2 points. A player receives point for their team for each basket they make from a spot. A team can earn a 2-point bonus each round if they make all four putts in a round and at least two of them are form the back spot (2 point line).
Seeding for playoffs. Teams will receive a seeding in their bracket based on the number of wins they have.If two teams are tied for a spot, the tie breakers (in order) are. 1) head-to-head, 2) Overall Points scored, 3) Point differential. If two teams are tied after the three tie breakers, the two teams will play two rounds and the team with the highest score will move on.
Playoffs: Playoff matches will be single elimination. Teams will be ranked based on their preliminary placing in their brackets and their scores. Teams will play the team that is opposite of them in ranking (so team ranked #1 will play team #16). All matches will be a single match until the finals and 3rd places matches. Finals and third place matches will be best 2 of 3.
Number of teams to playoffs: The number of teams that make it to the playoffs will be determined by the number of teams that play (and the number of brackets created)
12-15 teams: 3 brackets. Top team in each bracket plus 3 wildcards
16-19 Teams: 4 brackets. Top 2 teams in each bracket
20-23 Teams: 5 brackets. Top 2 teams in each bracket plus 2 wildcards
24 Teams: 6 brackets: Top 2 teams in each bracket and 4 wildcards
Rules:
1) No jump putting! Balance must be maintained at either spot.
2) Be courteous to other competitors and visitors to the brewery.
3) No glassware out in the competition area. Plastic cups are available.
4) No smoking/vaping is allowed in the competition area (brewery rules). There is a smoking patio out front for tobacco products. Anything else needs to be done off the property.
If a player commits a rules violation during play, that team can be issued a warning by the TDs. If a putt is made illegally, that throw is not counted for that score.
Postponement/ Cancellation: This event will be outside. If the weather is not in our favor, the TD can postpone the event to another date. Likewise, if we do not have a minimum of 12 teams registered, the TD has the right to cancel or postpone the event. If this occurs, all teams have the option to a refund of the entry fee (dgscene fees and paypal are not refundable).
