Maine Players Tour & Maine Players Championship Charter (2024)
Welcome to the Maine Players Tour! The MPT is a collaboration of disc golf players with course
owners to create a fun yet competitive season of disc golf throughout Maine. Players have
volunteered their time and efforts to conceptualize this tour, and many more have joined in to
maintain it since its inception in 2007. As the state of disc golf in Maine continues to grow, we will
continue to find innovative ways to make each season better than the last.

I. Player Divisions
The following divisions will be offered at all events with both Mixed divisions (Male & Female) and
female-only divisions. Divisions that have the letter M in their code are “Mixed” divisions where both
males and females may play. Divisions that have the letter F in their code are “Female-only”
divisions in which only females may play.
No additional divisions can be added for any event. Players may play in younger, age-based
divisions if they wish or if their age-based division is not offered.

II. Entry Fees
Entry fees consist of: green fees, tournament payouts, Maine Players Championship (MPC) payouts,
optional ace pot, and optional cash CTP.
Green Fees
Green fees are $12 per person for all regular season events and $24 for Championships (2 days)
Tournament Payouts
The tournament payout money is added from each player to their respective division's prize pool for
that day’s event. Below is the tournament payout amount included in the entry fees for each division.
• Pro Divisions: $25
• Advanced Divisions: $15
• Intermediate Divisions: $10
• Recreational (Am3): $10
•
Maine Players Championship (MPC) Payouts
MPC payouts are collected from each player at each event to create the prize pool for the tour final,
the Maine Players Championship. The cost per division is:
• Pro Divisions: $5
• Advanced Divisions: $3
• Intermediate Divisions: $1
• Recreational Divisions: $1
Optional Buy-ins: Ace Pot and Cash CTP
CTP (Closest to Pin) and Ace Pot collections are optional. The CTP is $2 with separate flags for men
and women. The optional ace pot is $5 and there is only one ace pot for all divisions. These options
are not included in the standard entry fee.
• Cash will be awarded for the Ace Pot and Cash CTP
• Donated CTPs to the MPT are welcome but may not be accepted at all events. Discretion falls to the course owner(s).
o The Ace Pot does not roll over. If an ace is not hit during regular tournament play, there will be a throw off at the end of the event. The closest 3 discs to the pin will split the ace pot equally. If an ace is hit during the throw off, that player(s) will win the entire pot. Playoff aces do not count towards the ace pot.
The total cost for a player at an event is: Green Fees + Tournament Payouts + MPC Payouts +
Optional Ace Pot + Optional Cash CTP
Pro Divisions: $42
Advanced Divisions: $30
Intermediate Divisions: $23
Recreational Division: $23
Does not include optional Ace Pot or cash CTP
III. TD Responsibilities
Tournament Directors are the essential link between players, courses and events. TDing an event
involves proper planning and execution. Below are the basic guidelines for TDing an event.
Prior to Event
o Finalize starting holes and payouts
o Email virtual player’s meeting and post in the Facebook Event page
Materials needed
o Scoreport (two if there are two courses)
o Scoreport cards (supplied by the MPT, Thank you Dann Flager!)
o TD packet in your possession or at the course (supplied by the MPT)
o The pre-registration list (you can access this yourself on discgolfscene) and monies will be sent the Wednesday before your event
o Cash bank of $50 with 1’s and 5’s
o CTP flags for Cash CTP and any additional CTPs
o Envelopes
o Sharpies
Event capacity
o Attendance will be limited to the course capacity and not exceed 5 players per hole.
During the Event
o Scoring and Hole Assignments
Note: Many hands make light work – ask for player volunteers
o Responsible for verifying all player scores after each round. A 2-stroke penalty is
added to any player’s score that is incorrect. Correct score + 2 strokes.
o Add individual round scores and total tournament scores on scoreport cards
o Note aces on the scoreport cards so they’re visible in the post-event photos
o Make hole assignments for each round
o Write up scorecards for each round
o Manage payouts
o Best to do this during lunch if not already completed before the event.
o Payouts go to top 1/3 of Pro divisions, top 40% to Am 1 division and top 50% to all
other divisions.
o The full payout schedule is located in the TD packet. MPT TD’s must all use this
payout schedule, not your own.
o Deliver MPC fees
o $5 from each Pro, $3 Advanced, $1 Intermediate (Please fill out the “MPT TD Sheet For Payouts” worksheet from TD Packet.)
o Deliver to the designated MPC fees and the MPT TD Sheet For Payouts” to Crystal Putek at the end of the event, in person if she is there or via PayPal no later than 3 days after the event.
PayPal: [email redacted]
After the Event
Clear photos of the scoreport must be taken and uploaded to the Facebook group: “MPT Live
Results.”
Don’t forget to fill out and send the MPT TD sheet for payouts and the MPC fees to Crystal within three days of the event.
IV. Player Responsibilities
• Check-in and register on time – deadline is 30 minutes prior to tee time. (Between 8:30-
9:30am).
• MPT Start time for every event is 10:00am
• Attend the players meetings before each round.
• Ensure safety. 1 warning (max) will be given to a player putting another player’s wellbeing at
risk before a disqualification from the tournament. (*Warnings are only an option; TD may
disqualify upon first instance at his/her discretion).
• Scorecards must be filled out with the number of strokes taken on each hole, including
penalties, and totaled before being turned in to the TD. An incorrect score on a turned in
scorecard will result in a two-stroke penalty added to the correct score for that player. Each
player should make sure their score is correct!
V. Points
• Players earn points at each event they attend for the division they participate in. A player’s
points will be totaled together after each event with his/her points prior to the event. Points
are division-specific and do not transfer across divisions. Standings will be kept and posted
after each event.
• One point is awarded to last place. One additional point is awarded for each place ahead of
last place. For example, if there are 5 players, they are awarded 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point for
places first through last, respectively.
• The top three players in each division will be awarded bonus points: 1st place: 10 bonus
points, 2nd place: 5 bonus points, 3rd place: 3 bonus points.
• 3 bonus points will go to any player for an ace during an event.
• Ties and playoffs: If a tie occurs for 1st place in a division, a playoff should occur. All other
ties would split cash and points.
• The top 4 players in each Pro division in season points prior to the MPCs will be awarded
with a cash prize totaling 25% of the Pro MPC fees collected throughout the season.
Payouts from that 25% of fees for each Pro division breakdown is as follows: 40% to first,
30% to second, 20% to third and 10% to fourth. This money will be paid out at the Players
Meeting at the start of the Maine Players Championship.
If any Pro division has less than 10 players who have qualified for the Maine Players
Championship, only first place in points will be paid out at 40%.
VI. Qualifying for the Maine Players Championship (MPC)
• A player must play 4 tour events to qualify for Championships.
• Winning an individual event in the regular season does not automatically qualify a player for
the MPC. Qualifying is solely based on total events played.
• If you qualify for more than one division, you must play in the higher division you have
qualified for.
VII. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Why does the Maine Players Tour pay out cash to all divisions?
Contrary to the PDGA standards, the MPT pays all divisions for simple reasons: keeping it
simple. This concept eliminates the need for TDs to find alternative prizes, and solves the
controversial issues with value. Less problems = more fun.
2. What is the MPC payout money for? Where does it go?
MPC payout money is collected at all events leading up to the Maine Players Championship, and
at the end of the season, it goes back to the players in the Maine Players Championship payouts.
For pro divisions only, 25% of the MPC payout money is awarded to the top season point
earners (details in section V.)
3. Why must I pre-register for events? Will there be room if I just show up the day of?
Online pre-registration guarantees you a spot in the most popular events of the season; the
growing attendance each year has showed the need for this at some events. There is the option
to add yourself to the virtual waiting list if an event sells out online. The virtual waiting list will be
first come, first served based on the time you complete registration. As long as the TD at an
individual event allows day of registration, and spots are available, you may register day of.
4. Can I TD an event and sanction the Pro divisions only?
No. MPTs cannot be sanctioned for any divisions.
5. What happened to the Baller?
The Baller/Cash CTP will just be called the "Cash CTP”. Instead of the longest “baller” hole, TDs
can decide to use any hole they feel is competitive to all players. There will still be separate
Cash CTPS for men and women.
6. How can I run an MPT event at my course?
MPT events will be scheduled every year between November 1st and December 31st. Events
cannot be held on the same date as other MPTs and each course must provide their own TD
team to run the event. Email Crystal Putek before January 31st if you are interested. Email:

7. For 2025 we will have all events set up as a series on
www.discgolfscene.com , the charter will be there, a list of events and their registration links, and points totals.
