THE ETHICS OF GOLF

What if you were playing in the club championship tournament finals and the match was halved at the end of 17 holes. You had the honour and hit your ball a modest two hundred fifty yards to the middle of the fairway, leaving a simple six iron to the pin.

Your opponent then hits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway.

Your opponent then hits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway.

Being the golfing gentleman that you are, you help your opponent look for his ball. Just before the permitted five minute search period ends, your opponent says "Go ahead and hit your second shot and if I don't find it in time, I'll concede the match".

You hit your ball, landing it on the green, stopping about ten feet from the pin.

About the time your ball comes to rest, you hear your opponent exclaim from deep in the woods "I found It!" The second sound you hear is a click, the sound of a club striking a ball and the ball comes sailing out of the woods and lands on the green, stopping no more than six inches from the hole.

Now here is the ethical dilemma:

Do you pull the cheating bastard's ball out of your pocket and confront him with it or do you keep your mouth shut?

So it's 1,049 feet because of the Iditarod? What about on even years (like this year) when they use a longer layout (I read this year's is set to be 1,146)? Will number 10's basket be moved back 97 feet to stand true with what you said? Hope all is well.

P.S. I didn't see your name on the Memorial Championships registration list. Did your plans fall through? So far there are 8 of us signed up. Gotta represent!!!

Thad, while you're looking into getting Brian's basket could you please look into getting Chris Cheney's basket for him too (red skill shot). Jamie had me pick it up from him and drop it off at Hilltop so I did. I didn't participate in Sunday's tourney. I was only there to drop off the basket and kick it until the break. I would really appreciate that and I know Chris would too. Thanks!

I agree with Brad and Sean .Please use the OB at Hilltop it is there as a safety buffer .if you play a round there and dont use the OB your score should note that OB was not in play ,Please limit yourselves to 1 throw each off Hole 18 ,I know its tempting to empty your bag throwing it but it would suck to have to pull the basket and reconfigure the hole because someone got hit by a errant 2nd throw .hole 4 and 7 are great downhill throws that are fine to rip extra throws off with out endangering players and other users of hilltop .Thanks

Hilltop DGC is open for business,Its a great course ,very challenging and beautiful .thanks to all the great volunteers that came out and helped john and
