I miss the old days, you know before every tournament was super expensive, before live scoring, and before tee times only.
Ahh the good Ole days of 2-rounds/1-day or 3-rounds/2-day events with shotgun starts and full field of players together, well together after the rounds finish. Everyone gathered around the scorepoint to see who shot the hot rounds and who was leading in which divisions. The rush to see scores with anticipation of thinking you did well, just to see you have to put in some major work to catch that other dude smashing up the course.
Then the player party after was an awards ceremony, where everyone got to see who the winners are, vs checking the phone during and then end of play, winning/cashing, getting a trophy, and just dipping out. The new scene has potential, but has lost some of the old aspects of togetherness and bonding.
On the other hand, the advancement of digital scoring has bettered the sport on most aspects of its arrival. Of course tweaks in the beginning were tricky, but now it saves TDs countless hours of 2x hand counting scorecards and inputting manual scores for all players...before, between, and after every round/event.
The major downside in my opinion, is the growth of live scoring vs digital scoring. Live scoring does not accommodate the older, fun, embracing ways. Now most players finish their rounds, view live scores, and get out. The environment has slightly changed with this development.
