Jason Cummings  › Avian Disc Sports Open Powered by Prodigy (New Date)   July 29, 2020 at 4:13pm

Greetings players!

The tournament is upon us. Robert Wilson and I would like to welcome you to the first Annual AVIAN OPEN, Powered by Prodigy! Robert is the proprietor of Avian Disc Sports. Go get yourself some fresh plastic at https://aviandiscsports.com/. He'll be on site with plenty of goodies as well. He is providing all the payouts and CTP's. I'm Jason Cummings, your TD, and the designer and steward of North Landing Disc Golf course.

North Landing HOA president Ed Stoutzenberger, myself, and some of my hard-working disc golf buds started building this course in September of 2019. It's come a long way from the one pad 11-holer it started as. We're very proud of the progress we've made. Over the course of the year, we've brought a greater disc golf presence to East Cobb, and have had over 60 disc golfers join up as members. We have signs to get in, a kiosk, some B positions, and some benches, but we are mostly there. Thanks for signing up and being part of our first PDGA tournament at the course.

COVID
Because of Covid, we are going to have to do some things kind of unorthodox. I've attached the PDGA's best practices document regarding Covid. Please read it and follow its guidelines to the best of your ability. We will be practicing social distancing and encourage hand sanitizing and masking-up if you are comfortable with it. If you are sick, or have been sick, please stay away. We will get you a full refund.

START TIMES and CHECK IN
We will be doing a shotgun start. We will be on the course at 7:15 am and you can start checking in then. We need everyone to be at their tees, ready to go, at 8:50. We'll have a two minute warning, and start at 9 am. I will email out info with everyone's card mates and starting tee# in the next few days. After the last card is in for the first round, we'll take a short break for lunch and start allowing cards back on the course as they are ready.

PDGA DIGITAL SCORING
We will be using the PDGA digital scorecard. Go to www.pdga.com/score and enter code 0801.
One player can keep your scores. You can see the leaderboard and follow the action here: www.pdga.com/live

PARKING
Parking in the parking lot off of Kemp Road is severely limited. We already filled it up at league night with 50 people, and the regular HOA folks who want to use the pool on Saturday will be down there as well. If you are close and you can get dropped off, please do. If you have someone that is also playing that you are comfortable riding with, please carpool. We will have an overflow parking lot marked out near the fire station on Trickum, south of Kemp Road, just past the big yellow house in front of the course. It will fill up. We can park along North Landing Way across the street as well.

HYDRATE
Pack and drink plenty of water. We will have some water on hand. Looks like it is going to be in a scorcher in the mid nineties.

LUNCH/BREAK
Once you are done with the first round, feel free to go grab lunch. Space will be limited around the common areas, so bring a cooler, grab some shade, throw a blanket, have a picnic, maybe head down to Shallowford or 92, there are plenty of food options in both directions. I do highly suggest packing a lunch to avoid having to park again.

PRIZES
Division Winners will receive after the tournament their choice of a custom Avian Open Division Winner Hoodie or Jersey with your name across the back.

CTP's
We will have prize CTP's on every hole. If someone wants to run some cash side action, great...try and organize it as contact and cash-free as you can.

PUTTING AND DISTANCE CONTEST
This is on hold until we figure out the details. If we don't do them, the Prodigy bags will be raffled.

BASKET RAFFLE
We'll be raffling off the T3 basket used in the putting contest right before lunch break. Everyone in the tournament has a ticket, some bought more at registration, and you will have the ability to get more at the tournament. See Robert for details.

PDGA Rules
All PDGA rules will be in effect. Please know them the best you can. Most importantly, know about marking your lie, finishing the hole, clearing your putt, foot faults, circle one putting, out of bounds rules, and lost disc rules. I know we will have a lot of first time tournament players out. All you vets, try and help them out.

We had some complaints at a recent league about people using banned substances. You can't do it at a PDGA event. We also need to keep in mind we are in a private neighborhood. We'll be adhering to the PDGA policy regarding such matters. Sorry to be this way, but no exceptions.
Section 3.03 Player Misconduct

C. The following actions also violate the above standard. Players who commit one or more of these violations will not receive a warning, and will be immediately disqualified by the Tournament Director:

Cheating: a willful attempt to circumvent the rules of play.
Physical attacks upon anyone present.
Public display or use of illegal or prohibited substances in violation of any applicable law (national/federal, state/provincial, local/city/county, et al) from the two-minute warning to the time the player's scorecard is submitted.
Public display or use of alcohol at PDGA events sanctioned at B-Tier or higher, or of marijuana at PDGA events sanctioned at any Tier level, even where otherwise lawful or permitted, from the two-minute warning to the time the player's scorecard is submitted.

LET'S GO!

I'll be sending updates over the next few days with any new news, the tournament guide, hole details, and hole assignments.

If you have any questions, hit me back here or on my phone - 912-596-4365.

I look forward to seeing everyone out there! It's gonna be a blast.

Cheers,
Jason
