I plan to be current before the event but don't want to pay a PDGA temp fee right now.

If you sign up for the tournament before you pay for a PDGA membership, but you get the membership before the tournament, you will be refunded by tournament staff. Get the membership before tournament entry and everything will be smooth with less paperwork for tournament staff.
