Ok sorry for the delay - between work travel and a crazy German flu strain that took me out for another week I'm a bit behind but here are some official stats and our Winter Champion title award.
14 week season
28 possible Counted Rounds
Sunday Nov 23rd 2014 - Saturday Feb 28th 2015
5 leagues
69 Total # of Players
825 Total Rounds Played
13,601 Total Points awarded
I like to look at how many rounds players actually played and what it takes to make it into the top spots. This kind of cuts to the chase of what the biggest factor was to making it to the top as the top ten by rounds is the top ten platyers overall. If players play more than one league or can manage to get three rounds in a single week then it really starts to shake things up but that only happened once this winter season by Steve Jones, so currently the key is to play more rounds than anyone else.
Kudos to the top three players who managed to get in 20 or more rounds of the max 28 rounds during the 14 week season.
Leaderboard Position Player Points Total Rounds
1 Rick Saffeels 487 23
2 Steve Jones 363 21
3 Ira Burgess 331 20
4 bryan van fleet 309 16
5 Rafael "Dynomite" Guerrero 288 15
6 THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS 268 14
7 AGRO JACKSON 243 13
8 Daneger Jones 206 13
9 Erik Lukehart 180 11
10 Paul Petitt 172 12
Now another great metric to look at is the points per round average to try and identify the sleepers who if they could just get a few more rounds in at their current pt/round Avg they would be up near the top - but you just never know unless they actually play the rounds.....
so in the top ten the average points per round average is between 22.8 & 40.69 pts per round. If I order the players who have at least six rounds by their point per round average here are the top players who did not make the top ten but could have if they had just a few more rounds in this season....
Top 20+ by Pts/Round Average with 3 or more rounds.
Current position, Player, Pts, # of Rounds, PTs/Round Average
27 Chris "The Lip" Lippert 85 3 28.33333333
34 john cooper 71 3 23.66666667
26 Brandon Skinner 87 4 21.75
1 Rick Saffeels 487 23 21.17391304
36 Shaun Kirk 62 3 20.66666667
29 Lucky . 82 4 20.5
23 William Beus 102 5 20.4
38 Beatrix "The Killer Bea" Walker 61 3 20.33333333
31 James Beus 81 4 20.25
24 Jesse Walker 98 5 19.6
33 Brad Rich 78 4 19.5
4 bryan van fleet 309 16 19.3125
5 Rafael "Dynomite" Guerrero 288 15 19.2
6 THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS 268 14 19.14285714
13 Jonathan Long 152 8 19
7 AGRO JACKSON 243 13 18.69230769
17 RYAN ROWLEY 123 7 17.57142857
11 Adam Rud 156 9 17.33333333
2 Steve Jones 363 21 17.28571429
28 Robbie Wheeling 84 5 16.8
3 Ira Burgess 331 20 16.55
Now the highest points per round average was 28.33333333 pts /round by Chris "The Lip" Lippert in 27th place with 3 rounds.
So it shows that you have to get out and try to get as many rounds as possible in, two rounds per week in if you really want a chance to be in the top spots.
What else helps. Wins, Aces and Double Points
Ok let's take a quick look at what it takes to make it in the top Ten of 69 players during the Oregon Winter - First lets look at the average of the key stats of the top ten players:
Average stats for top ten players
284.7 Points
15.8 # of Rounds 1.1 Avg Rounds / week
15.7 # of Rounds Counted 1.1 Avg Rounds / week
17.790 Average Points per Rounds
17.876 Average Points per Counted rounds
4.2 Wins Max 15 wins, Min 0
0.2 Aces Only 2 playesr had aces
0.4 HLW Only 3 players had Double Points
487 Max points
172 Min points
315 Point Spread from 10th to 1st
Ok so the overall factor was # of rounds played. With the top three over 20 rounds each. Then the factor comes down to Wins and Aces. Double Points was not really a factor in the winter but if it had come down to a close call it could have made a difference. I'll send you some of our Michigan Snow and cold ;-) Rick Saffeels with 15 wins ensured he got max points for the rounds he played and the 25 pts for his Winter Ace was just like a Bonus Round worth of Points.
The only other Winter Ace in the top 10 was THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS but with only 14 rounds the point gap was to big.
Leaderboard Position Player, Points, Total Rounds, Counted Rounds, PTs/Round Ratio, Wins, Aces, HLW / Double PTs.
1 Rick Saffeels 487 23 23 21.17391304 15 1 2
2 Steve Jones 363 21 20 17.28571429 5 0 0
3 Ira Burgess 331 20 20 16.55 0 0 1
4 bryan van fleet 309 16 16 19.3125 4 0 0
5 Rafael "Dynomite" Guerrero 288 15 15 19.2 4 0 0
6 THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS 268 14 14 19.14285714 5 1 1
7 AGRO JACKSON 243 13 13 18.69230769 4 0 0
8 Daneger Jones 206 13 13 15.84615385 1 0 0
9 Erik Lukehart 180 11 11 16.36363636 2 0 0
10 Paul Petitt 172 12 12 14.33333333 2 0 0
The end Result - Our DGLA Oregon Disc Golf League Winter 2015 Champion is ..... Rick Saffeels - Congratulation Rick - Great play again this winter.
Summer season starts April 12th. Make sure your local Oregon league has been added.
