I promise no worst or tough shot. The format will be best shot with players split into two groups and paired at random. It gives everyone a chance, in theory, to finish in the money at some point.
Yes John but it makes it a better experience for newer players. a lot of random draw doubles I've played are set up that way to pair a less experienced player with someone higher. it evens out the teams and help the newer players learn more.
I would see taking a teams score and assigning that score to each player on that team for that week and for every consecutive week that they play and averaging them. Lowest half of players by average would be A tier and higher average scores would be B tier. It would be a little difficult but poss ...

I would see taking a teams score and assigning that score to each player on that team for that week and for every consecutive week that they play and averaging them. Lowest half of players by average would be A tier and higher average scores would be B tier. It would be a little difficult but possible to do. I would suggest making it mandatory that people hsow up in advance or at least give you a heads up that they will be there so you can get the cards set up.
No advance notice required. If only two people show up, they win the league night and can split the prize money and do what they want to entertain themselves.
I experienced this a bit while I lived in tiffin they put everyone's minis in a five gallon bucket and the top player picks out of that bucket and that's how doubles are chosen. Seems to be a simple way to pick. Maybe the bottom half of the players are the ones that put their minis in the bucket
LOL. I wasn't planning to give it a fancy name, but I will come up with something on my own if I decide to. I just received what amounts to a league-in-a-box yesterday, with scorecards, stat keeping sheets, and the like, so a lot of that is done. I'm looking to start it in May and run t ...

I just received what amounts to a league-in-a-box yesterday, with scorecards, stat keeping sheets, and the like, so a lot of that is done. I'm looking to start it in May and run through the end of August with a break week around July 4 and possibly one for Jubilee, whenever that is this year.
I would say if you were going to do this, only have 1 singles league going on during the same period. And I wouldn't do a Saturday, Sunday. it would have to be one on the weekend and one during the week.
I work 3rd and I don't think Thursday is a problem. I like the idea that it is split up through the week with the other leagues. There isn't any back to back days going on.
That's why I'm really liking the idea of Thursdays. I would really like the doubles league to be in addition to the other league rounds and not in place of them, and Thursday evenings are about the best time I can think of to accomplish that. If it turns into a problem, we can figure something out to fix it.
i didn't mean that advanced notice is required I meant that it would be helpful if you are going to go through the hassle of dividing up 2 seperate tiers based on averages and you get to the point where you're ready to go with the cards all set up and then someone comes bumbling into the p ...

Advanced notice would be nice if you're going to be late or you just don't play.

If you would wait until June to start and play through August, would this miss the spring a fall league schedule? I am assuming that you want this to be fun and give everyone the chance to play with new and/or different people. If scores and stats are used to pair up, there is a greater chance that you may be playing with the same person most of the time, whereas a random draw allows for a different team weekly, which in turn makes for a whole different type of "friendly" competition, not to mention it would be easy for the director and also allow for newcomers to show up and play on an unnanounced basis. To me, having the chance to play with all others would be the greatest benefit. The mini's could be a way to draw teams, or cards from a small deck or however. Maybe $5 per person to play and payout every night to the top team, or if enough teams, could payout for first and second places. Just my thoughts!
We're going to change things up a bit and do the doubles league on Sunday mornings. The Tuesday night singles league will remain the same, but Sunday singles will go on a hiatus until later this year.
yes
Ya
That's enough to continue thinking about it. Yay!
I'm in
yep
This is going to take quite a bit of planning. I want to make it happen this year, and I think it can.
just don't make it worse shot i never want to do that again
I would more than likely participate

splitting them by skill level so that one group isnt stacked?
brian wouldn't that defeat the purpose of random draw then?
We'll call it semi-random. LOL.
Yes. I'd keep track of scores, and the line will shift week to week based on a player's performance.
Yes John but it makes it a better experience for newer players. a lot of random draw doubles I've played are set up that way to pair a less experienced player with someone higher. it evens out the teams and help the newer players learn more.
i might be interested in this depending when the matches are. Will it cost each week to play or one time fee?

You can't make it mandatory for people to give notice whether they will show up or not. Ben and myself could set that up on the fly.

It doesn't take that long to do cards, anyway.

I like johns idea with the minis
Yes
I'm leaning toward Thursday evenings for this. What do we think?
Well if you're doingn that you might as well steal tiffin name of theirs, it was Thursday night throwdown aka TNT

I'd consider Saturday, too.

Fair enough.
Also, nothing is set in stone yet. If anyone has ideas or suggestions, I'll listen.

I wouild be interested but will probably be out of comission until May or so!

Sounds good, I will see you in the fall then for regular leagues!
