Would anyone be interested in a random-draw, cash doubles league? If so, say so. LOL.

Brian Barclay   March 5, 2015 at 3:47pm

yes

Josh Thomas   March 5, 2015 at 4:21pm

Ya

Benjamin Wonders   March 5, 2015 at 4:33pm

That's enough to continue thinking about it. Yay!

Brian Taylor   March 5, 2015 at 6:12pm

I'm in

John Ryan   March 5, 2015 at 7:52pm

yep

Benjamin Wonders   March 5, 2015 at 9:05pm

This is going to take quite a bit of planning. I want to make it happen this year, and I think it can.

John Ryan   March 5, 2015 at 11:07pm

just don't make it worse shot i never want to do that again

John Broering   March 6, 2015 at 12:29am

I would more than likely participate

Benjamin Wonders   March 6, 2015 at 8:15am

I promise no worst or tough shot. The format will be best shot with players split into two groups and paired at random. It gives everyone a chance, in theory, to finish in the money at some point.

Brian Taylor   March 6, 2015 at 8:23am

splitting them by skill level so that one group isnt stacked?

John Ryan   March 6, 2015 at 9:42am

brian wouldn't that defeat the purpose of random draw then?

Benjamin Wonders   March 6, 2015 at 9:43am

We'll call it semi-random. LOL.

Benjamin Wonders   March 6, 2015 at 9:45am

Yes. I'd keep track of scores, and the line will shift week to week based on a player's performance.

Brian Taylor   March 6, 2015 at 9:51am

Yes John but it makes it a better experience for newer players. a lot of random draw doubles I've played are set up that way to pair a less experienced player with someone higher. it evens out the teams and help the newer players learn more.

Shane Stembridge   March 6, 2015 at 11:10am

i might be interested in this depending when the matches are. Will it cost each week to play or one time fee?

Brian Barclay   March 6, 2015 at 11:14am

I would see taking a teams score and assigning that score to each player on that team for that week and for every consecutive week that they play and averaging them. Lowest half of players by average would be A tier and higher average scores would be B tier. It would be a little difficult but poss ... more

Brian Taylor   March 6, 2015 at 11:20am

You can't make it mandatory for people to give notice whether they will show up or not. Ben and myself could set that up on the fly.

Benjamin Wonders   March 6, 2015 at 2:03pm

No advance notice required. If only two people show up, they win the league night and can split the prize money and do what they want to entertain themselves.

Benjamin Wonders   March 6, 2015 at 2:12pm

It doesn't take that long to do cards, anyway.

John Broering   March 6, 2015 at 10:41pm

I experienced this a bit while I lived in tiffin they put everyone's minis in a five gallon bucket and the top player picks out of that bucket and that's how doubles are chosen. Seems to be a simple way to pick. Maybe the bottom half of the players are the ones that put their minis in the bucket

John Ryan   March 7, 2015 at 7:11pm

I like johns idea with the minis

Louis Salinas   March 8, 2015 at 3:07pm

Yes

Benjamin Wonders   March 10, 2015 at 10:48pm

I'm leaning toward Thursday evenings for this. What do we think?

John Broering   March 11, 2015 at 2:58am

Well if you're doingn that you might as well steal tiffin name of theirs, it was Thursday night throwdown aka TNT

Benjamin Wonders   March 11, 2015 at 8:15am

LOL. I wasn't planning to give it a fancy name, but I will come up with something on my own if I decide to. I just received what amounts to a league-in-a-box yesterday, with scorecards, stat keeping sheets, and the like, so a lot of that is done. I'm looking to start it in May and run t ... more

Benjamin Wonders   March 11, 2015 at 8:41am

I'd consider Saturday, too.

Brian Taylor   March 11, 2015 at 8:52am

I would say if you were going to do this, only have 1 singles league going on during the same period. And I wouldn't do a Saturday, Sunday. it would have to be one on the weekend and one during the week.

Josh Thomas   March 11, 2015 at 8:54am

I work 3rd and I don't think Thursday is a problem. I like the idea that it is split up through the week with the other leagues. There isn't any back to back days going on.

Benjamin Wonders   March 11, 2015 at 10:43am

That's why I'm really liking the idea of Thursdays. I would really like the doubles league to be in addition to the other league rounds and not in place of them, and Thursday evenings are about the best time I can think of to accomplish that. If it turns into a problem, we can figure something out to fix it.

Benjamin Wonders   March 11, 2015 at 1:28pm

Fair enough.

Benjamin Wonders   March 11, 2015 at 1:35pm

Also, nothing is set in stone yet. If anyone has ideas or suggestions, I'll listen.

Brian Barclay   March 11, 2015 at 2:35pm

i didn't mean that advanced notice is required I meant that it would be helpful if you are going to go through the hassle of dividing up 2 seperate tiers based on averages and you get to the point where you're ready to go with the cards all set up and then someone comes bumbling into the p ... more

Bret Stopher   March 15, 2015 at 11:15am

I wouild be interested but will probably be out of comission until May or so!

Bret Stopher   March 15, 2015 at 1:50pm

If you would wait until June to start and play through August, would this miss the spring a fall league schedule? I am assuming that you want this to be fun and give everyone the chance to play with new and/or different people. If scores and stats are used to pair up, there is a greater chance tha ... more

Benjamin Wonders   March 15, 2015 at 10:10pm

We're going to change things up a bit and do the doubles league on Sunday mornings. The Tuesday night singles league will remain the same, but Sunday singles will go on a hiatus until later this year.

Bret Stopher   March 16, 2015 at 9:53am

Sounds good, I will see you in the fall then for regular leagues!
