This year like in past years we are doing prizes every week for Best overall score, and also best adjusted score which uses your handicap.
-Best overall score only considers your raw score for the week, lowest score winning the prize for the week.
-Best adjusted score takes your raw score and applies your handicap to adjust the score up or down by your current handicap for the week.
Explanation of how Handicap is calculated:
We use a minimum of 3 scores and maximum of 5 scores to calculate handicap. The minimum of 3 rounds means that a handicap will not apply until you have at least 3 registered rounds. The maximum of 5 scores means that as the season progresses, any new score that is lower than your current 5 scores, will bump the worst score of your 5, thus lowering your handicap.
The Formula:
-Average = Add your (3-5) best scores, divide that by (3-5) number of scores (calculated to 2 decimal points)
-Handicap = Course Par (56) minus Average.
-Adjusted Score = Standard Score plus Handicap.
Since par is the "zero point" for handicap....
-If you consistently shoot over par, your handicap will be negative, lowering your adjusted score.
If you consistently shoot under par, your handicap will be positive, raising your adjusted score.
-If your handicap is near zero or positive, it means you are really good! And if you're that good you really should be competing for best overall score and not best adjusted score.
-The purpose for adjusted score is to level the playing field so that any player would get a shot at winning. This makes the league more fun for everyone! It's also a great way to track your improvement over the season.
***Winning, Prizes, Etc:
-We want everyone to enjoy themselves so we have prizes for both Best Overall Score and Best Adjusted Score, Closest to The Pin (CTP) and Long Putts (LP).Also, we use handicaps to sort the players into divisions when it is time for divisional competition.
-DGS mobile version Leaderboards section will display your handicap week over week so you can track how your handicap lowers as the season goes on! https://www.discgolfscene.com/mobile to enable or disable the mobile version.
Example ONE: Its league week #1 and you've played all 3 preseason weeks, so you have 3 scores (61, 65, 62).
For league week#1 you shoot a 60.
ADD previous top 3 scores (61, 65, 62) = 188.
188 / 3(scores) = 62.67 (Avg)
56 (par) - 62.67 = -6.67 (Handicap)
60 (wk#1 score) + (-6.67) = 53.33 (Adjusted Score for wk#1)
Example TWO: Its league week #3 and you've played all 3 preseason weeks and league weeks #1 and #2 so you have 5 scores (54,56,53,53,55).
For League week #3 you shoot a 52. (this example shows how your handicap changes as your scores get lower and lower)
ADD previous top 5 scores (54,56,53,53,55) = 271
271 / 5(scores) = 54.20 (Avg)
56 (par) - 54.20 = 1.80 (Handicap)
52 (wk#3 score) + (1.80) = 53.80 (Adjusted Score for wk#3)
____________________________________________________
Now your 52 goes into the Hcap calc for the next week (wk#4), and since 52 is a lower score than your 5th best score (56), the 56 gets dropped and replaced by the 52. Repeat to get your wk#4 hcap.
Add Top 5 scores (54,53,53,55,52) = 267
267 / 5(scores) = 53.40 (Avg)
56(par) - 53.40 = 2.60 (New Handicap for wk#4)
