So I won MA1 last year and didn't even win enough money for a disc... I'd love to come back and defend, but I have issue with the pay structure. You say low entry fee results in low pay out, but $32.00 is on par with other tournaments I've played. And the issue last year anyway was the pay out structure, where people were literally getting $1.00 for whatever place they finished. That is definitely unheard of... Everything is/will be according to the PDGA’s guidelines. I am required by rule to pay out 45% of the amateur field at a minimum, and I will avoid giving someone payout that is less than $5. When you put this together, in addition to the PDGA guidelines for payout scale, sometimes payout tends to be flat. PDGA requires that in C-Tier events players receive 85% value. This year’s event will have value over 100%. After accounting for player’s packs, added value, and PDGA fees, I will be allocating $5 per player toward payout. I understand your concerns, and I share many of them myself, so I am trying to gather information from my players this year in a survey question on the registration page as to the importance of the delicate balance of entry fees, player packs/amenities, and payout. If you need to reach out to me, feel free to use the “Contact Tournament Staff” link on the “About” page. I hope you’ll choose to come out and defend your title (and the hot round from last year)!
