I am really curious as to the reasoning behind having the AM side for semis at 20% while the pro's remain at 40%. I think that a top ten finish at a World Championship is a very worthy accomplishment and in the past the battles for that top ten spot has been quite competitive during semis. Only ten spots for semis seems really tight for example.
It's crazy. Pros should only play to 20.
thought the same, Brian. I also believe if I remember correctly that it was top 40% last year for Ams, too. With so many players traveling and booking hotels in hopes of making the cut and playing that final round, it would be nice if more of us could be rewarded for the cost and effort.
Even Junior Worlds cut to 40% for the semifinals so why not the Masters?
The reason I was given is that Am's are trophy only and someone outside the top 20% is unlikely to move up to top 3. The pro's are playing for cash so they have the top 40% fighting for their spots. I just played the Tim Selinske US Masters and that was top 40 % as well. It's a great ... more

Hopefully it gets changed!
That doesn't sound right. There's still the Final9 after the semis. The only reason I can think of that they wouldn't let top 40% for AMs is maybe because the size of the field. The semis are a shotgun start so everyone can be done in time for the FInal9.
That would be unfortunate though. Last year was top 40%, and looking at my division at least (MA40), we are the only ones playing TUT in the semis, so there will just be 30 people on that course... :-/
It has been 40% for years. Semis provide two different battles - one for the final four and one for those around the 10th spot. Semis for everyone one else was like a celebration of friendships and another year of disc golf. Top 40% was no easy task for many and making that cut was a really good feeling and one of the most enjoyable rounds I played all year. Reducing to 20%, in my opinion, takes most of that community spirit out of it and turns it into a real do or die competition. Now that becomes an interesting philosophical question about what AM Worlds is wanting to be as an event and while I can see both sides to that, I do not see it being pitched as that in other aspects.
Brian Usher I totally agree with what you are saying, plus we have made the commitment, effort, time and spent the money to get here so why not extend us the chance for the semifinal round? Even For MA40 the 20% cut is only 30 players! There is no reason it couldn't be 40% so that the cut off is 60 players. For most of us making the cut is the goal for the tournament.
Did this change after we were registered?
I doubt it. I myself did not see it until a buddy pointed it out.
